We have heard the very sad news that our own lovely WubblyBubbly passed away very peacefully this week, after two years living with breast cancer. MrWubbly let us know on this thread, where many have expressed their condolences and shared their memories of Wubbly.

We have offered to make a blanket for MrWubbly and their son, Lawrie. MrWubbly has said that both he and Lawrie would love this and they are very touched by the idea. We hope that it may bring whatever comfort it can to them both.

So, we need knitters, crocheters and donors. If you would like to donate wool, then we can match you up with a crafter.

RatherBeOnThePiste will coordinate and match crafters and donors, and deal with the admin side. I'll try to answer any queries you may have and will put together the blanket.

If you would like to be involved in any way, please post on this thread and PM Pistey with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc, and she will match you up.
If you are offering to donate, we would be grateful if you would let us know if you'd like to donate 1 or 2 balls of wool. They cost roughly £5 per ball.

Crafters, if you need wool please let Pistey know if you'd like 1 or 2 balls of wool.
One ball should make at least 2 x 6" squares.

Thank you all so very much Thanks

Oh, and he got out of doing the traditional start of year "mob run" where they have to run twice round the field or something. Bonus.

First square done for this blanket - I love it so thought I'd show off:

That's beautiful, Knitter!

SoupDragon · 01/03/2012 11:01

Lovely :)

Methe · 01/03/2012 11:02

That's really lovely knitter! I bet it took some skill.

Jux · 01/03/2012 12:04

Got back from London funeral last night, and there was the wool waiting for us! We are all exhausted today and having quiet, comfortable time, doing as little as poss. I can't even hold the needles today, but will be OK tomorrow and we shall start then. Lovely soft wool, purple and darkish green. Looking forward to it.

Well, I broke the habit of a lifetime, and blocked my work. My lovel almost-exactly-six-inch square is now 7 x 7.5". Balls.

I guess I will be making another first square then! Grin

SoupDragon · 01/03/2012 14:02

Last square

I'm going to try and put another row of SC round the edge of Bear but I'm not convinced I have enough yarn.

KnitterNotTwitter · 01/03/2012 14:11

Thanks for the kind words. One of the reasons I like doing these blanket squares is that it gives me something small to try a new technique or skill on without the trauma of doing a whole jumper which would scare me :)

RatherBeOnThePiste · 01/03/2012 14:17

Lunchtime - am so hungry today!

Now I know that because Knotty hooks the blankets together it is much easier if squares aren't blocked, because she can find it difficult getting her hook through, so please DON'T block squares

Now if you have, please don't go into a spin, she will manage.

How did you get on at the fracture clinic angel?

I have a big pile of PMs, I shall start now Grin

Thanks everyone

Thanks
JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 01/03/2012 14:17

oh buggery bollocks. Doing moss stitch on second square and I now have to make a pattern as I did a few rib rows... was going to rip it out and start again but have continued and it looks ok ish. Sad

no cable malarkey from me. oh lordy, Id get in such a pickle, cant even get an easy peasy moss stitch right. Sad

RatherBeOnThePiste · 01/03/2012 14:18

Back in a little while........

angelpantser · 01/03/2012 15:01

Yay! No fracture. They took the temporary cast off and have given her a splint to wear for about a fortnight. She has already decided that she'll not be wearing it at any of the parties that she's invited to this month Hmm. To be fair it is the colour of poo and she'd struggle to match it to any of her outfits. Grin

She's now watching quality TV America's Next Top Model I'll let her get comfy and then remind her about her German homework.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 01/03/2012 15:01

Ahem Jax - moss stitch aint easy!

DonkeyTeapot · 01/03/2012 15:03

Well, I'll send it in, hopefully it can be shoehorned into the blanket. No spinning here, just a couple of minor pirouettes :) Will make sure my next one is slightly smaller.

prettybird · 01/03/2012 15:06

That's 'cos you can't do 'purl' Piste

RatherBeOnThePiste · 01/03/2012 15:14

Oh yes, definitely send it Donkey No blocking needed next time though! I had no idea blocking made them grow like that. But then, there's lots of knitty things I don't know Grin

Pretty - Purling is weird, like it's back to front and upside-down. All wrong. Confused

RatherBeOnThePiste · 01/03/2012 15:55

All PMs replied to Thanks

Many thanks to everyone. More woolly wool has arrived with crafters thanks to our fabulous and generous donors. I shall post our thank you list this evening, as I am hoping that more wool will be found on doormats by those returning from work later.

Everyone is just lovely though

prettybird · 01/03/2012 16:37

Piste - that's what a left hander feels like! Grin

nickelhasababy · 01/03/2012 17:04

i concur prettybird Grin

Jux · 01/03/2012 17:34

My uncle learnt to knit by sitting at my grandmother's feet and watching. Consequently he knits backwards!

Thanks Purple; fares to London have broken the bank so no chance of going anywhere for a while! Will stay at home and knit and study like a good girl Grin

KnottyLocks · 01/03/2012 17:59
