We have heard the very sad news that our own lovely WubblyBubbly passed away very peacefully this week, after two years living with breast cancer. MrWubbly let us know on this thread, where many have expressed their condolences and shared their memories of Wubbly.

We have offered to make a blanket for MrWubbly and their son, Lawrie. MrWubbly has said that both he and Lawrie would love this and they are very touched by the idea. We hope that it may bring whatever comfort it can to them both.

So, we need knitters, crocheters and donors. If you would like to donate wool, then we can match you up with a crafter.

RatherBeOnThePiste will coordinate and match crafters and donors, and deal with the admin side. I'll try to answer any queries you may have and will put together the blanket.

If you would like to be involved in any way, please post on this thread and PM Pistey with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc, and she will match you up.
If you are offering to donate, we would be grateful if you would let us know if you'd like to donate 1 or 2 balls of wool. They cost roughly £5 per ball.

Crafters, if you need wool please let Pistey know if you'd like 1 or 2 balls of wool.
One ball should make at least 2 x 6" squares.

Thank you all so very much Thanks

Hi all. I had some trouble with the pattern, but with the help of mumsnetters managed to complete This square.

DillyTante · 28/02/2012 22:17

Like your squares soupy. What stitch is the first (brown) one?

ChippingInNeedsCoffee · 28/02/2012 22:24

Soupy - they're great!! The Bear is lovely :) (once again)

Dingle - bugger - but you will be happier with it :)

Dilly - that's lovely! Well done you!

PurplePidjin · 28/02/2012 22:26

Soupy and Dilly they're fab!

Crochet cables are making my head hurt Hmm

DillyTante · 28/02/2012 22:27

A message to the donors: there is a group that you can google called Craftivists, & they encourage people to get involved in craftivism, activism through craft. They sell badges and stuff and some of the badges say "I'm a Craftivist" and some say "I'm a Craptivist". The Craftivists are those who donate money to the causes but can actually craft themselves. I like to think it is self-deprecating rather than pejorative. Could you donors be Craptivists alongside the Crativists? Grin

Dingle · 28/02/2012 22:27

Yes, I think so but now I am knitting like mad trying to knit up all the wool I had undone. Doesn't help that i couldn't find my cable needles and I am using a larger one!

Dingle · 28/02/2012 22:30

Seeing all these fab crocheted squares I may try my hand at crochet when my knitted squares are posted!Grin It looks complicated Dilly!

PurplePidjin · 28/02/2012 22:53

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh

2/3 of the way through my cable square and I'm out of the colours! Anyone got. Some in a sort of teal colour? I'll try and Google the shade now. Really don't want to rip the whole thing out Sad

PurplePidjin · 28/02/2012 22:56

Dingle, I've already promised your dd a lesson, happy to let you join in Wink

Dingle · 28/02/2012 23:09

Grin LOL, thanks Pidjin!

Right, undone wool all knitted up and my square a much better size. Off to the land of nod now! Night all! x

PurplePidjin · 28/02/2012 23:16

Night night!

Alambil · 29/02/2012 00:11

Is David, MrW's name?

Just so I know who to write the card to... don't want to get THAT wrong.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 29/02/2012 06:35

Morning everyone Brew

Lewis - yes, it's D for David. Put away your klaxon Smile Just about to scoot through the PMs.

Thank you everyone Thanks

RatherBeOnThePiste · 29/02/2012 06:36

Sorry am on initials! Yes - it's David.. Too early Smile

DillyTante · 29/02/2012 06:48

Dingle, that square is, but crochet usually isn't. A granny square is easy peasy!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 29/02/2012 06:49

Brew Onto number two Smile

Many many thanks for all messages, I have replied to all.
Am so blown away by everyone's kindness Thanks

Off to work this morning. Back by lunchtime

Morning all Smile

Pidj, send me a pic of the teal wool. I may have a match here.

Dilly, the bumpy one (which, despite being effectively plain and beige is my favourite) was from ravelry - it may even have been called "bumpy square". our square looks fabulous but way beyond my skill

Yes bumpy square! It is rather firm but, amongst all the other snuggly squares, I think it'll be fine.

Don't know why the bear is smaller - I wonder if I added on an extra round to the others anyway. It's only 5.5 inches so not a huge difference.

All squares are looking good :)

Dingle · 29/02/2012 08:34

Oh bother, planned to finish my square this morning but I have been called into work again to cover sickness.....Hmm

PurplePidjin · 29/02/2012 08:42

Knotty, it's Rowan 525

I have texted you a photo but it looks like shit, even on my east facing windowsill!

Pastabee · 29/02/2012 09:03

Wow! Everyone's squares look great. I'm afraid mine will be very plain stitches.... I am finding following a pattern with a baby too challenging - she interrupts and I lose my place! I have reasoned that plain squares with no mistakes would be best!

KnottyLocks · 29/02/2012 09:06

Pidj, I've sent you a pic back of what I have. I think it's the right colour. Let me know.

KnottyLocks · 29/02/2012 09:08

PastaBee, plain squares are just as good. Honestly!

I'm hoping to make a few snowflakes to add to the blanket, to represent the ones in Wubbly's vision. I can always add one to your square.

OP posts:
Pastabee · 29/02/2012 09:21

Phew! I'll be sure to send a decent number and some wool for hooking!

KnottyLocks · 29/02/2012 09:53

I've asked for this thread to be moved to Arts and Crafts now in order to preserve it for Wubbly's family to read if they ever want to in the future
