We have heard the very sad news that our own lovely WubblyBubbly passed away very peacefully this week, after two years living with breast cancer. MrWubbly let us know on this thread, where many have expressed their condolences and shared their memories of Wubbly.

We have offered to make a blanket for MrWubbly and their son, Lawrie. MrWubbly has said that both he and Lawrie would love this and they are very touched by the idea. We hope that it may bring whatever comfort it can to them both.

So, we need knitters, crocheters and donors. If you would like to donate wool, then we can match you up with a crafter.

RatherBeOnThePiste will coordinate and match crafters and donors, and deal with the admin side. I'll try to answer any queries you may have and will put together the blanket.

If you would like to be involved in any way, please post on this thread and PM Pistey with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc, and she will match you up.
If you are offering to donate, we would be grateful if you would let us know if you'd like to donate 1 or 2 balls of wool. They cost roughly £5 per ball.

Crafters, if you need wool please let Pistey know if you'd like 1 or 2 balls of wool.
One ball should make at least 2 x 6" squares.

Thank you all so very much Thanks

Jax - don't stress my friend :) How many you need to cast on & what size needles you need will depend on how tight or loose you knit.

I would say if you are a tight knitter (struggle to insert the needle/needles 'squeak' about 40, if you are a loose knitter about 35 - but you need to check for yourself.

We can talk about sewing the ends in when you have finished and if it all gets too much you can send them to me and I'll do them and send them on.

I am really annoyed. After traipsing over the shop they didn't have the wool in!! I had specifically asked for the DB Cashmerino, DK. When I got there and asked where abouts it was she pointed to the DB Rialto DK -

I said 'No, the Cashmerino DK'

She said, 'Oh it wont matter, it's Merino'

I said 'It will matter' (visions of Knotty throttling me or not using my squares)

She said 'Then use the Cashmerino Baby'

I said 'No, I can't, it's not the right one'

She said 'How is it different?'

She runs the fecking wool shop!!!

Gahhhhhhhhhhh so I don't have any wool tonight :(

Alambil · 25/02/2012 20:29

Jax - you just use a darning needle (so it's got a big eye) and weave the long cast on/off bit in to the edge, so you can't see it - just for a few stitches, then cut it :)

RatherBeOnThePiste · 25/02/2012 20:38

Squeaking needles?!

Chipping - Ive had exactly the same problem in the past. I have two wools I can buy and they tell me something else is the same.

Aaaarrrrrrggggghhhhh!

And arf at the vision I have of Knots throttling you with a woolly square.

KnottyLocks · 25/02/2012 20:47

Oi! I would never throttle anyone Shock

Lewis, if your crochet squares come up small again, please don't pull them apart. Add an extra round of triple crochet or two. Or send them anyhow. I can easily add it. Smile

ah, I've done them right this time - I went and bought a tape measure! Guessing just didn't work Grin

one was only 3 rows anyway, so no bother :)

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 25/02/2012 21:15

ok, calm again. I can tuck the ends in with a darning needle...

ooh chipping looks like you are coming to me for coffee after all. Smile

have you not found any on tinternet?

ChippingInNeedsCoffee · 25/02/2012 21:16

When are you putting up your new photos Lewis?

Knotty she even suggeted I just used one of the others and didn't say anything... Mwahhhhhhhhhhhh Like that would have got past you!!

MinnieBar · 25/02/2012 21:17

We don't have to block them? Result. [lazy cow emoticon]

I've done one of those squares-with-a-diagonal-bit-running-through-the-middle (they have a fancy name but I've forgotten). It's, er, not entirely square. But almost?

Really looking forward to getting more wool from my FB donors so I can crack on with more!

ChippingInNeedsCoffee · 25/02/2012 21:20

Jux - yes, there's plenty on the internet, but I wanted to buy it yesterday and do them over the weekend, but unfortunately RL got in the way, so I tried again today - must have called 15 shops? - This was the only shop that had it (or rather didn't but said they did!!). I am going to check now and see if any shops further out have it & are open tomorrow as I really want to at least make a start this weekend :( If not, I'll order it from Cucumber.

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 25/02/2012 21:22

my local wool shop, well its a sewing shop with a wool bit in it, only stocks Sirdar wool, so have bought online. Hope it arrives v soon, Im itching to get going.

Kayzr · 25/02/2012 21:28

Is it cheating if I get my mum to sort out the ends? Blush She taught me how to sort out the bit from casting on while knitting the first row the other week. But not sure how to sort out the cast off bits.

ChippingInNeedsCoffee · 25/02/2012 21:38

MinnieBar - any chance of a photo on your profile??

OK - so as I can't knit tonight, does anyone have any links to nice pattern sites? I can only find ones that look like they were designed in america, by a netmums poster, in 1950 :(

RatherBeOnThePiste · 25/02/2012 21:54

Chipping - you need Knots, she always seems to come up with pattern sites, is there one called revelry /ravelry? Something like that. You'll have to hope she comes back on.

I have replied to all PMs many thanks everyone. It is all going really well. Lots and lots of lovely people are involved in making this a beautiful woolly hug for Wubbly's family.

Thanks
OpheliaBumps · 25/02/2012 21:58

My wool arrived this morning, I went for the Rowan Cashsoft this time instead of the DB, there are some gorgeoise colours. I've got a lovely mid blue & an oceany green (Lake & Kingfisher on the shade charts), they look fab together.

I started on Captain Barnacles tonight, I'm a bit worried about the scale of the characters as Barnacles is absolutely teeny & Pidj said Peso was coming up a bit big. Do 5 years olds care about scale?
Pidj I hope you had a lovely meal (ah, dinner out at a weekend, I remember those days so fondly, when a babysitter didn't almost double the cost of a night out). When you've got a minute, can you measure the height of Peso for me please, then if he's much bigger than Barnacles I can easily make another with DK & a bigger hook (using 4 ply at the moment).

KnottyLocks · 25/02/2012 21:59

Chip, have a look on Ravelry, it's free to join. You'll get lost in there for hours

Chipping yes sign up to ravelry.com, it's full of amazing patterns for all kinds of things. I've lost days of my life to that website Grin

DickSwivellersTidyWife · 25/02/2012 22:10

how to sew in

ChippingInNeedsCoffee · 25/02/2012 22:16

Pistey - I am now a member of Ravelry, but tbh, can't see anything I like :(

It's good to know there are lots of people involved :) Lots of people thinking about Wubbly x

ChippingInNeedsCoffee · 25/02/2012 22:20

x-posts galore Grin

I am now a member but can't find much in the way of 6" squares. Any other suggestions?

Ophelia - no, 5 year olds don't care about scale :) They don't even seem to notice, let alone care!

OpheliaBumps · 25/02/2012 22:25

Chipping I've got a set of patterns I downloaded (in return for a donation to Refuge) when there was a promotion to make squares for Refuge, it doesn't seem to have any copyright on it so I'm happy to email it on to you if you PM me your email address. It's got some lovely patterns in it.

Alambil · 25/02/2012 22:26

Ok, the square mark 2 is on my profile. I didn't take a pic of the second one - I'll take one later when I've finished it :)

I got some more wool today too, so hoping for Much Square Production Grin

MinnieBar · 25/02/2012 22:26

Just do a search for 'square' on Ravelry, then narrow it down by selecting ones with a picture, knitting, free patterns and even then there will be literally thousands.

Will put a pic on tomorrow Smile
