We have heard the very sad news that our own lovely WubblyBubbly passed away very peacefully this week, after two years living with breast cancer. MrWubbly let us know on this thread, where many have expressed their condolences and shared their memories of Wubbly.

We have offered to make a blanket for MrWubbly and their son, Lawrie. MrWubbly has said that both he and Lawrie would love this and they are very touched by the idea. We hope that it may bring whatever comfort it can to them both.

So, we need knitters, crocheters and donors. If you would like to donate wool, then we can match you up with a crafter.

RatherBeOnThePiste will coordinate and match crafters and donors, and deal with the admin side. I'll try to answer any queries you may have and will put together the blanket.

If you would like to be involved in any way, please post on this thread and PM Pistey with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc, and she will match you up.
If you are offering to donate, we would be grateful if you would let us know if you'd like to donate 1 or 2 balls of wool. They cost roughly £5 per ball.

Crafters, if you need wool please let Pistey know if you'd like 1 or 2 balls of wool.
One ball should make at least 2 x 6" squares.

Thank you all so very much Thanks

Knottylocks, I have ordered two balls from cucumberpatch. I think my dd (10) may have a go at knitting one too. :)

An inch and a third. The third is important.
My needles are smokin'

I envy those of you who can knit, natter and watch telly without looking at every stitch. Envy

RatherBeOnThePiste · 25/02/2012 19:08

Smokin indeed GentleOtter!!

Now I'm despondent! I've just measured my 9 rows and they only just make three quarters of an inch

and actually Grin I am honestly very happy in my lowly place in the world of knitting.

I once tried watching the telly and knitting, it was Spooks. It didn't go well, for the people in Spooks or for my knitting tbh. I gained about 6 stitches on one row. No idea how. Knotty was very kind about it, but it was a dodgy square. Technically it wasn't even a square!! Grin

PurpleKittyKnitting · 25/02/2012 19:13

Sorry if this has been mentioned before but are we blocking them or just sewing in the ends?

RatherBeOnThePiste · 25/02/2012 19:20

From my lowly place in the world of knitting I can actually answer that one Purple. Knotty always says not blocked, but pesky ends sewn in.

PurpleKittyKnitting · 25/02/2012 19:22

Thanks! I know the first ones I did we were asked to block and then not to!

Our knitting club wanted some 6 inch squares and I asked about blocking and I got a bit of a nippy reply about 'just make them 6 inches square!' But I know when I knit them to the pattern they aren't 6 inches at all!!

PurpleKittyKnitting · 25/02/2012 19:23

Oh and some of the members in our club didn't sew in the ends! Shock! Terrible!

Alambil · 25/02/2012 19:25

wtf is blocked? I just hid the ends. Woops!

I had to undo all the ones (well, 2) I did last night - they were only 4inches sq! I have done them again though

and I found myself magically in the haberdashers today. They sell LOADS of DB... I am now in possession of a proper cream and a lovely blue. Woops again!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 25/02/2012 19:29
Grin Grin Um..... From my lowly place in the world of knitting, I think it is something to do with ironing. Just don't iron it Lewis and you'll be fine! I could never iron my square anyway in case I set it on fire by mistake.
RatherBeOnThePiste · 25/02/2012 19:32

Not sewing in of ends Purple?
Shock

PurpleKittyKnitting · 25/02/2012 19:46

When I finally learnt to crochet and do a blanket for my daughter I sewed the ends in as I went along to save me the HUGE job at the end!!

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 25/02/2012 19:57

oh oh OH! Is it 33 stitches on 4mm needles 6 inches length = square?

And I have no idea what blocking or sewing in ends is. When I knit I have my long bit from casting on and a long bit when casting off... maybe I have bitten off more than I can chew. Sad

Kayzr · 25/02/2012 20:02

Jax I can't sew ends in. I might get my mum to do that bit.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 25/02/2012 20:07

Jax, Jax, Jax!! Take a deep breath, in through the nose, out through the mouth. It will be fine Wine

Yes 33stitches. Keep knitting rows until you get to 6" square. I have knitted 10 rows now.

No blocking needed.

Re sewing in of ends. All you do is get a needle and sort of sew them into the edge so they disappear.
