I've just heard the sad news about Magic8ballhasstheanswers leaving 6mo twins and a 4yo Sad

If anybody would like to show their condolences, post here and we'll organise it. I'll take on construction again unless someone else would like a turn?

IvySedai (who messaged me to let me know) is happy to co-ordinate so PM's from Donors and Crafters needing a match to her please.

Previous squares were 6", knitted or crocheted. Blues, pinks and purples were the most popular colours. Debbie Bliss Cashmerino or Rowan Cashsoft DK (links are just the first ones I found on google) It's also available in John Lewis.

Lastly, was there anything in particular that Magic liked and could be incorporated in the design?

How many squares are you all getting from a ball?

I know last time I made 2 squares then weighed what was left of the ball and there wasn't quite enough to make another. But Lydia says that 40 balls = 120 - 160 squares? Confused I can see how 2 balls would make 5 squares as you could use the leftovers from both balls to make another, but how do you get to 160?

Jackaroo · 22/08/2011 13:20

It would be amazing if it ended up being 3 blankets - one for each child? If it doesn't work out that way it doesn't matter, sounds like a lot of knitting all around!

Can I say thank you to Lydia here for putting up with the faff that is an international credit card transaction :-) She's ace.

Oh well, if your kids are away and you're enjoying relaxing in your garden Soup, you can make your own tea! Grin Wink

nickelbabe · 22/08/2011 13:25

it depends how much wool each square uses, but you shuld get 3-4 squares from one ball.
you might get less if you're knitting a square, because it uses more wool.

JemimaMuddledUp · 22/08/2011 13:40

Ah, maybe its because mine are knitted. I'm sure I only got 2 last time.

purplepidjin · 22/08/2011 13:41

at Frazzled - I've always got time to meet you for coffee if you want to help with construction? Star

Jackaroo, we've already decided to do three blankets, each put together by a different MNer, because of the sheer amount of generosity on this thread!

Galaxy, if you know who your donor is, get in touch then you can swap pictures of your joint squares Smile

3 blankets for 3 children sounds perfect. I may well end up buying some wool of my own in addition to the ones I was sent, depending how it goes.

Hulababy · 22/08/2011 14:15

Not sure who the knitter is I am matched too. But I was matched this morning and have ordered two balls from day. She is a star and already has them packaged and labelled and ready to send out later.

Wasn't sure on any deadlines so wanted to do it asap.

mistlethrush · 22/08/2011 14:15

Just seen this - can knit squares again (I got 3 from last ball btw) - if any wool providers, that would be great....

lydiathetattooedlady · 22/08/2011 14:15

Envy at soupdragon! Thank fully mine are at nursery today but they do come with me two days a week if DH is working.
The estimate is based roughly on how they're knitted. I am also using every scrap so there will be some striped ones in there too!
jackaroo thank you for the positive feedback! Im just sorry i didnt realise sooner that i cant use card machine and phone at same time!
Im knitting for 3 donors and will put pictures up asand when they are finished! x x

lydiathetattooedlady · 22/08/2011 14:16

Galaxy - about how long should you wait for your donated wool before you say something -

I've ordered wool from Lydia, one for me and one for a crafter in Gloucestershire. She's posting both to me today, then I will re-post the donated ball, as I didn't want Lydia to bear the cost of double postage IYSWIM.

So, I reckon my crafter should have their wool by Weds/Thurs, I hope that's not too long. I'm itching to get started myself!

In the meantime I'm practising as I'm hardly an expert Blush

StickThemWithThePointyEnd · 22/08/2011 15:24

So just because I have been asked by a few people: If you are a donor and would be ok with your crafter knowing who you are, or if you are a crafter and would be ok with your donor knowing who you are, let me know. I have been asked by a couple of people to keep them anonymous, but I could pm those of you your matches if both parties are ok with it

drcrab · 22/08/2011 15:39

ivy I'm happy for the crafter to know it was me (although I think Lydia would have indicated that in her post!!)

Knitter who lives in York (an address that has the name of a metal in it): 2 balls of pink and purple were sent out today!Smile

Thumbwitch · 22/08/2011 15:47

Ivy, I'm more than happy for my crafter to know who I am :)
Think I've already indicated who I was matched with but she may not want me to know her posting name, which is fair enough :)
just in case she missed it the first time, H in the horsey place who is getting a ball of green wool, hope you can work me a butterfly! don't worry if not though.

lia66 · 22/08/2011 16:13

I have ordered 2 balls but my very limited knitting skills may not be up to my enthusiasm so if anyone would like an extra ball, pm me and i'll pass it on.

3 blankets is so fantastic, I wonder if we could have one initial on each, I B and X and perhaps R on one of the blankets for magic's angel dd.

Perhaps a little presumptious of me to suggest Blush don't want to offend anyone.

StickThemWithThePointyEnd · 22/08/2011 16:13

does anyone know if there is a way to filter through pm's?

StickThemWithThePointyEnd · 22/08/2011 16:14

lia I think dutchoma is making lettered squares :)

Thumbwitch · 22/08/2011 16:16

Don't think so Ivy, sorry!

StickThemWithThePointyEnd · 22/08/2011 16:18

oh well, I think I manually found what I was looking for.. must get the kids ready to go out now, but will be back online later..

NessaRose · 22/08/2011 16:23

One square done and another half way finished.
I would love to put up photo's but I don't know how to. Blush
