I've just heard the sad news about Magic8ballhasstheanswers leaving 6mo twins and a 4yo Sad

If anybody would like to show their condolences, post here and we'll organise it. I'll take on construction again unless someone else would like a turn?

IvySedai (who messaged me to let me know) is happy to co-ordinate so PM's from Donors and Crafters needing a match to her please.

Previous squares were 6", knitted or crocheted. Blues, pinks and purples were the most popular colours. Debbie Bliss Cashmerino or Rowan Cashsoft DK (links are just the first ones I found on google) It's also available in John Lewis.

Lastly, was there anything in particular that Magic liked and could be incorporated in the design?

Hi Nessa

SoupDragon · 22/08/2011 07:32

I'm dithering about patterns :o So many to choose from....

StickThemWithThePointyEnd · 22/08/2011 08:04

soupdragon I have a whole list of patterns I want to get through, I will just have to make them all :)

pamplemousserose · 22/08/2011 08:06

Thank you to the person who sent me a ball of pink wool, I have already started work. Pm me so I can send you photos of the squ.ares

Hulababy · 22/08/2011 08:11

PM sent

SoupDragon · 22/08/2011 08:11

I have two patterns I know I can make (excluding the bog standard granny square) and the challenge for me is finding ones I like, think I can do and are either the right size or can be the right size with some fiddling. My aspirations are much much a little higher than my ability at the moment!

StickThemWithThePointyEnd · 22/08/2011 08:42

soupdragon I went to the Blanket category on Ravelry, refined by Free and Crochet, and then just looked through everything, keeping tabs open for all the patterns that I liked, then looking through them again to see if they are what I am looking for.
size wise, you can increase any square to the size you need quite easily if you just carry on doing what you have been doing.

having said that, I've ended up with ruffles rather than a square on the pattern I tried yesterday.. Hmm

Hulababy · 22/08/2011 10:19

I have my address but is there a quick link to what I need to buy and where from?

Hulababy · 22/08/2011 10:27

Have PMed Lydia re wool.

purplepidjin · 22/08/2011 10:36

I don''t know if it's the same for knitting, but there are some lovely crochet dish cloths Blush which are about the right size? People seem to get everso creative with their washing up?!

Hi.
What a horrible thing to happen.
I can crochet as many squares as needed as I'm not working at the moment but funds are mega tight at the moment for the same reason.
Is there somewhere I need to pm my address to or will it be saved from the Edgar blanket.

StickThemWithThePointyEnd · 22/08/2011 10:46

cloudpuff pm me, please, then I'll match you up.

JemimaMuddledUp · 22/08/2011 11:04

I have just received my wool from my donor - thank you.

It is Debbie Bliss Cashmerino in Raspberry Pink, ordered from Laughing Hens by someone with a hotmail address starting with an a. I am in Wales. If you sent me this wool could you PM me then I can send you a pic when I have finished the squares?

nickelbabe · 22/08/2011 11:08

I've done my 2 squares.
I've put bobbles into them, so that it looks like little "8 balls"

Here's a picture

pidj - what you were saying earlier about matching squares to their neighbour- you'll see when you received them, so if someone could make a sqaure that starts at 5" and finishes at 6" that would be perfect! Blush
(i measured it and everything, but it started out too wide )

purplepidjin · 22/08/2011 11:23

Ooh I love that pink, Jemima!!

Nickel, they'll stretch top accomodate, don't panic!

StickThemWithThePointyEnd · 22/08/2011 11:30

lovely squares, nickel

purple if I can't manage to get this stupid square to unruffle, do you want me to just make sure all sides are 6" and then stretch it in, or undo it and start again?

Hulababy · 22/08/2011 11:35

I have just arranged for 2 balls of wool to go to a knitter (JC) in Northants via the MNetter Lydia. One is pink, one green. Hope that is ok.

SoupDragon · 22/08/2011 11:37

Oh, I have a Ravely search for "squares" open permanently :o I made a lovely one with a raised dragonfly on it but 1) it was so SO difficult 2) mine appears to be somewhat less than square and 3) I didn't want to risk it with the wool I was sent by TimeForCake (raspberry and White)

purplepidjin · 22/08/2011 11:46

Ivy, I'm not the one who's going to have to attach it to the others, remember? Grin

Soupie, your dragonfly was gorgeous but must have taken yonks!!

OP posts:
JemimaMuddledUp · 22/08/2011 11:59

I am in awe at the idea of a dragonfly!

Mine are much simpler I'm afraid, I think for Edgar's blanket I did one basketweave and one double moss stitch. I have started a double moss stitch one and will either do basketweave (because I like it) or cable for the other.

Do you have enough crafters for your donors Ivy? If you don't I could do another ball from another donor. I have a long wait at the paediatrician's with DS2 this afternoon and so will have finished the first square quite easily by tonight, possibly even the second!

TimeForCake · 22/08/2011 12:05

Ahhh Soup, I trust your judgement! Do as you please with the wool, it will be infinitely better than anything I could do. I'll be here to provide Brew or Wine for you! :)

lydiathetattooedlady · 22/08/2011 12:29

Hi everyone! Just to let you know i am out of wool!. You very generous mnetters have brought 40 balls of yarn from me which is the equivalent of 120-160 squares!
I am about to start my 3rd square, i swill hopefully get quite a few done here in the shop as i knit all day!
All those who have placed orders over the weekend will have their yarn sent out today x x

SoupDragon · 22/08/2011 12:31

No, PurpleP, the dragonfly square on Ravelry was gorgeous. Mine was rather less so. I'm glad I tried it though.

SoupDragon · 22/08/2011 12:34

Now, the children have gone to Spain for a week and I think i shall retire to the garden with a deckchair, my crochet kit and my iPad which has the patterns on :)

purplepidjin · 22/08/2011 12:57

*Shut up SoupDragon". I am right. You will not argue.

Wink

OMG, Lydia, these blankets are going to be enormous! Shock
