I've just heard the sad news about Magic8ballhasstheanswers leaving 6mo twins and a 4yo Sad

If anybody would like to show their condolences, post here and we'll organise it. I'll take on construction again unless someone else would like a turn?

IvySedai (who messaged me to let me know) is happy to co-ordinate so PM's from Donors and Crafters needing a match to her please.

Previous squares were 6", knitted or crocheted. Blues, pinks and purples were the most popular colours. Debbie Bliss Cashmerino or Rowan Cashsoft DK (links are just the first ones I found on google) It's also available in John Lewis.

Lastly, was there anything in particular that Magic liked and could be incorporated in the design?

gapants · 21/08/2011 13:32

nope that is wrong--sorry!

StickThemWithThePointyEnd · 21/08/2011 13:35

wafflestitch is lovely. - wrong link, though? Confused

Purple, would it be ok to use some different yarn for embroidery/decoration? I have some beautiful glittery pink and purple mohair/wool blend that would make lovely flowers, and some ribbony wool blend in green/light green/gold and purple/blue/pink/red/gold for some emboidery.....

purplepidjin · 21/08/2011 13:38

Gapants, as long as it's roughly 6" on most of the sides it'll be used and appreciated

To everyone: my biggest headache is not colour, pattern, design, or how many each person does. It's making sure that every single square and (usable sized) scrap of wool goes to something for the family. If I have wool left over, I'll make teddies. Leftover squares can be turned into cushion cover. Your contributions will be used for their intended purpose

Ivy, if it'll look the same as the rest of the blanket in 10 years time, go for it Grin

I made a blanket for DS while I was pg in a sort of double moss stitch but not really because it was like single moss stitch but doing K2, P2 instead of K1, P1 and double moss stitch is more complicated than that. Soooo I have no idea if my knit pattern even has a real name but it ended up looking a little like a waffle blanket, which was the idea, and is a very pretty pattern, if anyone want to give that a try. :)

Thumbwitch · 21/08/2011 14:27

Sorry, didn't explain that very well - first row was K2, P2...., 2nd row was P2, K2 (like rib)...... then P2, K2..... and K2, P2......
Gave alternating blocks of 4 stitches, to give the waffly look. Only in diagonal. But still very pretty. :)

purplepidjin · 21/08/2011 14:36

Is this the longest thread in Mn history to stay on topic? I like the diagonal waffle idea

Iirc the simplest way to knit a square is to cast on 1 then increase 1 stitch each end per row until you get 2 sides 6" lomg, then decrease 1 stitch each end til you run out of stitches

My knitter in Oxford, hopefully you will receive the wool soon Smile

gapants · 21/08/2011 14:56

drcrab · 21/08/2011 16:04

hello knitter in a close up north that has the name of a metal! I've asked Lydia to send 2 balls of wool to you. Thank you for doing this - I look forward to seeing the finished blanket! xx

SongBirdsKeepSinging · 21/08/2011 18:01

Hi everyone, I have come across this website 6"Squares

It's a free resource and has knit and crochet patterns if anyones looking for a pattern to follow.

SongBirdsKeepSinging · 21/08/2011 18:04

(they are free patterns but they do ask if people are willing to also make squares for them/make donations.)

LaVitaBellissima · 21/08/2011 19:50

Ivy I've PM'd you, Lydia still has some wool which I would love to send to someone to knit with, if there is anyone still unmatched.

Failing that I could send it to Purplepidjin to use to link everything together?

TulipsfromAmsterdam · 21/08/2011 20:00

Would like to help and knit a square if it's not too late to offer.

lydiathetattooedlady · 21/08/2011 20:03

I just thought LaVitaBellisima i could be your knitter as i'll be putting one of the blankets together? Just drop me a message either way x x

TulipsfromAmsterdam · 21/08/2011 20:08

Tried to pm Ivy to be added to list but don't seem to be able to - can anyone advise? Thanks

TulipsfromAmsterdam · 21/08/2011 20:15

Please ignore previous message - sorted now

CoffeeandChocolateplease · 21/08/2011 20:41

Am just about to order my wool. I found this link, don't know if it has been mentioned (I couldn't see it anywhere, apologies if it's a duplicate), it has a nice rav link to a mitred square amongst other patterns. It might be a bit tricky for beginners but it's handy since you can just knit until it's the right size (and I'm not that good at getting gague so perfect for me).

Much love to all the family, my heart goes out to you

LaVitaBellissima · 21/08/2011 20:53

Hi Lydia wool is bought & I would love it if you could be my knitter Smile

Thank you & all the other talented knitters, think I'm going to learn though, this thread has inspired me!

Think everyone involved is amazing Star

NessaRose · 21/08/2011 21:59

Hello Gay40.

Mumwithadragontattoo · 21/08/2011 22:29

Can I add my voice to how wonderful Lydia is. She has provided a first rate service.

I have finished square number 1 (just a plain knitted one I'm afraid) and will get cracking on another tomorrow.

youarekidding · 21/08/2011 22:47

I am in Hampshire if that helps anyone. Can't knit, but can provide wool or make deliveries if needed. I am off work until schools go back so time is on my side atm too.

I love and hate these threads at the same time if that makes sense to anyone. Sad
