I've just heard the sad news about Magic8ballhasstheanswers leaving 6mo twins and a 4yo Sad

If anybody would like to show their condolences, post here and we'll organise it. I'll take on construction again unless someone else would like a turn?

IvySedai (who messaged me to let me know) is happy to co-ordinate so PM's from Donors and Crafters needing a match to her please.

Previous squares were 6", knitted or crocheted. Blues, pinks and purples were the most popular colours. Debbie Bliss Cashmerino or Rowan Cashsoft DK (links are just the first ones I found on google) It's also available in John Lewis.

Lastly, was there anything in particular that Magic liked and could be incorporated in the design?

Am happy to knit or crochet, if anyone wants to send me some wool... have some lovely square from the Knitter magazine which I would love to make up :)

KnottyLocks · 19/08/2011 18:37

Pidj, thanks for message, my lovely.

I'm so very sorry to hear that another blanket is needed so soon.

My hook and needles are at the ready. I have a little amount of wool left over from our other blankets but will get some more.

As usual, the generosity of mumsnetters is very touching. [BigStars] all around.

purplepidjin · 19/08/2011 19:34

Oh yeah, where'd our Star emoticon get to? MNTowers said they'd look into it, then nothing happened Hmm Knotty, would you like to investigate?

Lydia, Star!!

Hear, hear to Lydia's gold star!
Thank you Lydia for posting all our wool so generously and quickly. :)

StickThemWithThePointyEnd · 19/08/2011 19:41

have caught up with pm's for today, any more will have to wait until tomorrow I'm afraid, because I am knackered and taking advantage of the fact that the kids are fast asleep already.

thank you all so much for your ready involvement - have just read through this and the memorial thread again and the screen is just a little blurry now.
you are all lovely.

lydiathetattooedlady · 19/08/2011 19:55

Can I donate? Can't knit but can send money for wool via pp direct to a knitter if easier.

purplepidjin · 19/08/2011 20:58

Thanks, Hulababy - if you PM IvySedai she'll match you to a crafty person. Then, you can choose a colour from either LydiaTheTattooedLady (if we haven't bought her entire stock yet!) or from one of the other websites linked on the thread and have it sent to your crafter.

My wool has been ordered and hopefully will be sent directly (i think i did it right) to the kind person who is going to be knitting.

Really wish I could do more Sad

KnottyLocks · 19/08/2011 22:38

Happymole,

we have found from our previous blanket experiences that the families who receive them have been so very very touched by everyone's efforts; crafty types, donators and organisers. For them, the fact that so many have thought of them and wanted to give them what ever comfort they could has been so appreciated.

KnottyLocks · 19/08/2011 22:59

Pidj, I've just finished my 2nd square. Do you want to start to think of a last posting date yet?

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/08/2011 23:11

belledechocchipcookie · 19/08/2011 23:13

Annie, do you ha ve a UK credit card? You could buy the wool that way and have it sent direct to a crafter but to get the address you need to be able to speak to Ivy privately.
Have you alternative access to MN, so that you can use the PM system? Or, are you on FB? because if you know any MNer on FB you could get them to do the PM to Ivy for you and then relay your email address to Ivy so she could email you the address for your matched crafter.

HTH.

purplepidjin · 20/08/2011 09:27

Second what Knotty said - this is a joint effort, and all contributions are equally appreciated.

Last posting Date: Friday 9th September. That's three weeks time, should be long enough?

Belle, yes please - Pm IvySedai

Annie, can you reply to messages sent to you? I can on my Blackberry... I can also instigate them but I have to be really careful about spelling the name right!

Got the wool today so will get started tonight when dd is in bed. Thank you to the donor.

batteryhen · 20/08/2011 10:21

ivy Hello :) I am not a knitter but would love to send some wool - I will PM you. It is such a shock when someone is taken so young. I can't bear to think of her familys grief, so lets hope this blanket shows her family that even those most of us never met her - we feel like we knew her, she was and is one of us xxx and will be missed.

I hope she is getting some snuggles from her angel baby xx

MrsDistinctlyMintyMonetarism · 20/08/2011 10:28

Have pm'd Ivy.

Although I've been here for quite a while, I never noticed these threads before, only caught it as you sent one to Blondes, and then reading back it was both awful and inspiring. It's just so sad that another blanket is needed so soon.

purplepidjin · 20/08/2011 10:35

Lots of Stars for everybody

To my donor (whoever you are!) I have recieved my green yarn this morning and am starting on a square after lunch. Will post pics in my profile when they are done.

Alambil · 20/08/2011 12:45

the wonderful lydia is knitting with wool I have purchased; I got 2 balls so should make a few squares :)

BupcakesandCunting · 20/08/2011 14:10

Right, sorry to be total pain but...

I've just been down to pick my wool up from the haberdasher's and the label says "CashSoft Baby DK" even though the lady assured me that this is the right stuff. I'm just looking now in MIL's Rowan booklet and I can't find one that says just "DK", there's Pima Cotton DK, Baby DK, Aran DK... I was going to post it to my crafter this afternoon but don't want to if it's going to be of no use. When I ordered it on thursday, it defintely said "Cashsoft DK" on the wool sample the lady showed me...

Sorry for being dense.
