Following on from the call for quilters and knitters here, this thread is for those who would like to in contribe a square so that we can make a quilt for EdgarAleNPie and her family.

Your square needs to be:

pre-washed to avoid shrinkage
zigzagged or overlocked around the edges, if possible
Any colour
If appliqued, using cotton
Can be embroidered
Any design to be in the central 6" square
Can send plain squares too

Details regarding posting, etc, to follow.

Many thanks.

I've only just heard the sad news, but I've PM'd PixieOnaLeaf and she says it's not too late to join in. l I've rifled through my fabric stash and am waiting for the washing machine to finish...

Mine are finally done and will be sent express delivery from Thailand tomorrow - usually 3-5 days delivery time. Have made some squares using Thai Royal Purple Cotton, with elephants on - here in Thailand the elephant is revered as bringing good luck and well wishes.

Mine are a bit crappy compared to others on here :( Will post some pics later.

KnottyLocks · 03/04/2011 12:14

TheBossofMe, I am sure that your squares are lovely. The fact you have gone to such an effort is very touching. Thank you. Big fat gold star Grin.

P.S. Is it still raining over there?

Gah! Stupid camera won't work,so can't upload a photo.Will try and find DH's camera.

PurveyorOfBologna · 04/04/2011 12:25

All these squares are amazing, it is going to be one beautiful quilt, and a lovely memorial to Leo. I have added mine to my profile. It took longer than I anticipated, I think I was a bit overambitious with my rusty sewing skills. Some bits are a bit wonky, but they add character hopefully. I really enjoyed doing it, and am inspired to keep up crafting Smile My daughter wants to learn to sew too Smile

I'll get it in the post today.

KnottyLocks · 04/04/2011 12:47

Purveyor - Rusty? Shock Rusty? Shock. I'd blumming love to be as gifted as that. You madam, derserve a fantabulous gold star. Grin

My square is finally in the post - a week later than planned, but both DTs have been ill for the last week and a half.

It's on my profile, I hope making my profile public has worked.

I found it very moving, right from buying the material to sewing the butterfly on, but I also enjoyed it, and think I'll have a go at making the DTs a quilt each. I've saved some of their baby clothes that I liked the material from, so I'll have a go with that.

Mirage · 04/04/2011 13:00

Thankyou,Blushthey are not perfect because I did them by hand. Will post them tomorrow because annoyingly,I have ransacked the house and cannot find a single postage stamp.

KnottyLocks · 04/04/2011 13:16

Ophelia, that's lovely! Gold star awarded to you too Smile

Mirage, mine will be handstitched too. So not technically perfect either, but full of character. It really adds a certain something.

Charm - that's the word I'm looking for Grin

I made the mistake of clicking on some of these profiles, and am feeling severely outclassed... Purveyor, yours is beautiful!

Anyway I've finished, and (think) I've got a photo on my new profile. Plus a couple of squares of prints to go with it. Next step - find an envelope...

bebejones · 04/04/2011 15:13

Skiffler - Fishy is so adorable! Love the bright colours, it's fab! :)

KnottyLocks · 04/04/2011 16:12

Should be finishing mine tomorrow to get them in the post....

goygoy · 04/04/2011 22:40

My squares are finished and will be in the post tomorrow. Pics on my profile - my first very amateurish attempt at applique, nowhere near as good as you talented bunch! My 25 year old sewing machine is still getting over the shock of being put back into service after years of gathering dust in the garage, but it felt good to use it again! Grin

Bettymum · 05/04/2011 09:41

Well I've finished my applique square, it is hand done and I'm wondering if I should do buttonhole stitch or something round all the pieces to make it stronger? I don't want to try and do satin stitch on the machine, I'll just make a mess. Any thoughts, Oh Wondrous Applique-ers? :)
Will try and put a photo up tonight, am loving seeing all the wonderful things that people are doing.

SoupDragon · 05/04/2011 12:48

Oh god... I've forgotten this!

KnottyLocks · 05/04/2011 12:53

Goygoy, they're lovely Smile Gold star!

Betty, are the pieces big enough to do a small machine zigzag around them? My applique is handstitched too, quite securely. Some bits are too small to machine stitch anyhow. Many others have handstitched theirs so unless you are really unsure, I'd stick with the handstitching. I obviously haven't seen the square though. I look forward to that Smile

Soupy, don't panic!

Knotty, I don't think so, they're quite fiddly. I have handturned and slip-stitched. Just so you know, I have done an aeroplane, a sun and a cloud. I thought the sunshine and the cloud were necessary just to make sure that people knew it was an aeroplane, not a funny looking fish Grin.
