This broke my heart to read. The impact a child who chooses to declare themselves the opposite sex has on their mother in particular is brutal. I cannot imagine a world where my children would demand that I change my own history to bow to their indoctrination.

I think it was a very clear account of how it feels to be the parent in this situation. Acceptance without exception has been the tra mantra for some time. The mother was accused of being unsafe but in the trans world even calmly trying to discuss it is bigoted and transphobic. It's very true that the whole ideology is all about rewriting everyone's history and anyone not going along with it is considered unsafe. Discussions get shut down because the whole thing does not stand up to logic.

I disagree. I've friends whose children have transitioned and it's been a big struggle for them But they haven't been as self pitying as this writer and they are still in their dcs lives. They don't blindly go along with everything their dc want either,

Reading this thread, it just struck me very clearly how odd it is that TRAs and those who sympathise with them believe that a trans person's idea of what makes a man or a woman is automatically the authorative one. The person who has not in fact lived the life is given more credence than the ones who have.

Trans people say "my experience is this, and that's how I know I'm a man/woman". Thousands, millions, maybe billions of other people say "ok, but surely I am also a man/woman and my experience isn't that at all, it's this."

But for TRAs the second set of people have no value at all. The first statement carries all the truth and everyone else is supposed to say "oh ok, I didn't understand myself and my own life and my own experiences, it must indeed be as the transperson said".

The suggestion that perhaps it's the trans person who didn't understand themself and their own life and their own experiences is treated as utter shocking blasphemy, triggering the raining down of every horror that can be invoked. And yet it's exactly how TRAs and their sympathisers treat anyone who disagrees with them.

The double standards are fascinating.

There was a trans identifying man on here who claimed his father 'forgot' he was ever a man and his name.

We know that isnt true. We remember as if it was yesterday the child we gave birth to and cared for. We remember the excitement and pressure of picking the best name for our child.

I cant believe that even the most enthusiastic TRA parent dont have any concerns about their child's trans journey. What parent wouldnt be concern about drugs and surgery, lifestyle and friends?

So the fully supportive parent is a lie. I think parents are having to make a choice - is it best for their child to affirm or not.

That's one person's story which I actually read ages ago. The same place I saw the study which said most people detransition due to societal pressures and general lack of acceptance.

Did you forget to add the citation?

Worth remembering that those rewriting history, insisting that trans isn't about changing sex are unlikely ever to have birthed or parented children. It's evident from their every utterance that frames parents as hostile to their children.

Their repeated presence on a parenting board where they daily express their dislike for women who post on here is doing what transactivists have done since this started. Attempting to undermine the family, gaslighting women & parents along with minimising the catastrophic impact that transactivism has had on the young.

Anc these second set of people include their parents.

Do you think it’s a ‘rigid conservative view’ to oppose the removal you your daughter’s healthy breasts and reproductive organs, or your son’s healthy penis and testicles? Would you think the same if your son or daughter wanted their arms removed because they loathed them? Or they wanted to be able to get morphine on repeat prescription because it made them feel fantastic? Or their child had developed anorexia and they tried to get help to stop starving to death?

Do you think it’s a ‘rigid conservative view’ to oppose the removal you your daughter’s healthy breasts and reproductive organs, or your son’s healthy penis and testicles?

Not at all. What I think is rigid is not being open to the possibility that trans is valid identity not a perverse indoctrinated one.

This irrational response is indicative of those who can't fathom the possibility of the psychological interchangeabilty between men & women that manifests in socially non conforming gendered expressions so much so they confuse that with psychological illness.

I think that it's naive to think that anyone can be convinced that they are trans and take the steps the author's child has taken.

And yet it's happening. Not just to the author's daughter, but to thousands of other young women.

What I am grieving is the loss of a shared story.

Two things stand out about this piece is a parent that can't accept their child evolving into an adulthood identity that they don't recognise on a superficial level & because of that they mustn’t have had any individual agency in doing so.

Brings back memories of my children who are adults now where I remember mourning each milestone that "this little person as they are now will soon be gone forever & I need to let go". The idea that children don't grow up & change often into people we wouldn't necessarily like them to be is very naive.

Perhaps the author may find peace & reconciliation with her child if she works on her control issues rather than seeking imaginary culpability elsewhere.

Edited

It's not about reconciling the "loss" of your evolving child - it's how a mother cannot talk about her shared history with her child as they were, lest they be accused of deadnaming, or forcing their child to be "something they weren't" if, for.example, the mother finds a photo of her daughter and says "you looked so adorable in that dress" - if that daughter now believes herself to be a man, she may accuse her mother of making her feel "unsafe".

We can all mourn the loss of the child they were while loving the person they are, that is normal, but it's not ok for a mother to be forced to deny that that child was who they were.

The daughter is denying the reality of her existence.

No, she's denying the reality of her sex.

That's a very different thing to denying her existence.

Very true. But if you're not a parent you'll be unaware of all this. Hence their simplistic support on here for promoting sex change as positive for children and the young.

Thank heavens the government have finally told schools that they may not teach children that everyone has a gender identity.

The author grew her daughter in her womb, birthed her, named her, raised her. The daughter is telling her that that’s all a lie.

Well no, the daughter isn't. Has she accused the mother of not birthing her, naming her, or raising her?

Let's not exaggerate.

Yes, exactly. Nobody is saying that didn't happen, just that the child now wants to follow a different path which the mum completely fails to accept and makes it all about her. As a parent, you have to accept that your child might turn out to be someone totally different to what you envisaged and while you can be privately somewhat sad about that, it's really not about you. For instance, if you name your child a ridiculous name that means a lot to you but is a burden for your child, then it's not a moral injury to you if your child chooses to change it. You might have had dreams of your child's career, hopes about grandchildren, expectations about their religion and they might do something totally different. Again, it's not about you. At all. As a parent, you provide nurture and guidance to an individual who will become capable of making their own decisions. That is all. You have no right to anything in terms of how they live their lives once they are old enough to decide.

And as this situation demonstrates, if you do make it about you rather than seeing your child as an individual, then you will end up like this lady, with a young adult who does not speak to their parent.

Did you get that last paragraph off ChatGPT or the back of a fag packet?
Any ‘identity’ based on a lie cannot be valid. And what is this ‘psychological interchangeability between men and women’ of which you speak? If thinking you’re the opposite sex to your actual sex isn’t a psychological illness what is it?

Many of us lived the 'non conformist' life, what with battling sexism to go work on construction sites when everyone told us to just learn typing like all the other girls.

This does not make people who like non conformist things the opposite sex. It makes us girls and women who like a range of things. A range of things that if enough girls and women like them, eventually become the norm.

The way you are talking; seems like you are of the 'don't want a gay son who plays with dolls so lets turn him into a girl' Susie Green line of thinking.

She isn't being denied her memories by not speaking about them to her child. They will always exist & who knows in time her child might be open to that but right now while the mother is in denial of who her child is at this moment is not the time.

But you have to ask yourself why you would want to say to your child that they look adorable in something you know they look back on with hate?

You can talk about that with their other parent, family members, friends, but why does she want to constantly relive this past with her child?

It would be like any of us constantly having out baby pictures and wanting our kids to coo over them with us. It's all a bit weird.

allthemind · Yesterday 08:53

Sunken cost fallacy, the existing TRAs, supporters and parents who aren't mentally strong enough to admit they were conned will have to keep coming on threads like this and repeating their tired old gaslighting arguments until they age out. They're not able to admit they were wrong. Thankfully as PP said, society, governments and the law is waking up to the scandalous way children have been treated in this cult and the way well meaning be kind types sleep walked into letting them dictate the agenda for awhile with bizarre assertions like TWAW. They will increasingly seem like bizarre outliers, screaming into the void, and hopefully that will help ensure the next generation of parents dont fall for it.

Adults can do what they want. Nobody should be transing kids.
