There's been a spate of threads recently about things JK Rowling has shamefully failed to comment on. Wouldn't it be easier to put them all in a single thread?

I'll start.

JK Rowling has shamefully failed to comment on the Manchester City fraud scandal.

You are all very bad feminists. You monstrous regiment of JKR flunkies. Why won’t you take a telling? All these lovely men instructing you how to behave and what to think. You should be grateful for their devotion to women’s rights.

I’ve said it before but it needs to be said again, SHAME, SHAME, SHAME on yous all. With superior finger wagging, sad face etc, this time with added tutting and deep disappointment.

ArabellaScott · 06/10/2026 09:25

I'd have killed for a cardboard box.

EmmyFr · 06/10/2026 09:26

@Canadanian regarding the Cornell Seven, as I feel I'm part of these awful anti feminists on the other thread you're referring to, I think JKR is quite right not to comment on it. Not because I don't believe Jane Doe (I do), not because I don't pity her (I do, wholeheartedly), but because from a PR perspective one of Rowling's strengths is that she's never been found out in the wrong factually. Eg she denounced Imane Khelif but not Lin Yu Ting when the two were forced grouped as males in women's boxing - ih turned out she was right. The Cornell affair is thoroughly disgusting and horribly sad, but honestly based on public knowledge no one can say so far with certainty that it's a black and white victim perpetrators case. Unlike the Brock Turner case for instance.

On the fact that all the mince pies now in stock in the supermarkets will be well out of date by Christmas. It's a scandal! She just does NOT care.

Edited

I beg to differ about the mince pies being out of date by crimbo.
They will be consumed within days, nay hours, of purchase 🤣🤣

Oh yeh, I genuinely never thought about it that way!

You mean they're not supposed to be green and fuzzy by the time I eat them? 🤔

GreyskySexRealistsky · 06/10/2026 09:24

Just to add: I hope you checked who owned that pedalo before you @KittyWilkinson

Or else you could be in all sorts of trouble with the akchewel bona fide feminists on here

I know! I did due diligence. None of yer dodgy actor people. I nearly went with one from Rod Hull and Emu but I steered clear when I found out about the ...erm....allegations!

The response is to the suggestion that JKR is supposed to comment on every story in the world. It’s a ridiculous claim, which is therefore being ridiculed.

People outside the UK have a particular problem understanding the thread as they don’t understand the culture of taking the piss.

The claim is not that she should respond to ‘every story in the world’. It’s about noticing that she has positioned herself as being dedicated to caring about women’s safety and dignity, but when major cases are being discussed and there’s a big opportunity to speak out…. she keeps quiet. It’s just noticing, and asking if that tells us anything about her motivations. And I think it does.

In particular, a lot of North Americans don't have the brains God gave potatoes. 😁

It's also the insularity. And lack of education about the wider world.

You are of course absolutely right. Nobody really knows whether JK Rowling thinks rape is good or bad, but if she would just say something, it would really tip the scales. Until then everyone is just waiting around not knowing what to do.

Again, it's like this board. Created years ago, but until JKR did that tweet, we didn't know what to think.

Thank you for engaging with the question of WHY JK Rowling might have chosen not to speak up at this moment. I understand your point, although personally I think it’s important that women still believe women and speak up when it’s messy, or it’s not a ‘perfect victim’ because of drink or drugs or saying the wrong thing etc.

What is it you want her to say?

What the fuck is the actual insinuation?

DialSquare · 06/10/2026 09:49

I find it strange that JKR’s lack of comments apparently tell us all about her motivations but her actions don’t.

A generic 'rape is bad' statement, is that what's required?

I can do that.

Rape is bad and awful and can have lifelong consequences. MVAWG makes me really angry. Shame on men who rape and those who enable them.

If I had the money I might even create and fund a service for victims of rape and abuse.

Yes, its only clicked for me why she'd be getting flak for this.

A weak attempt to undermine her work in supporting victims of rape. I see.

Absolutely. I mean some might say that it's up to the American courts to decide what happens next, but I think she should really weigh in and make her opinion known. Obvs it might cause a problem further along the line if the defendants can demonstrate that they couldn't get a fair trial, but the victim will have that tweet, and that is what really matters.

Don't bother with that last bit.

It's the tweeting that makes the difference.

Major cases is a subjective term. She often comments on stories that would be major to British people but not to others. She doesn't comment on a raft of stories that others may consider major. The Cornell story is horrific, but as @EmmyFr points out, it is not unusual for her to wait to comment. She is more circumspect than many of her detractors.

That aside, you have again made a baseless claim - that the women here are being disrespectful to a woman's pain by ridiculing posters who are using a rape case to attempt to score points. To repeat the victim of the abuse is not the object of this thread.

Moreover, it indicates how much trans activists misunderstand the dynamics of GC feminism. We (and I use 'we' in the broadest sense) are not all sitting around waiting for our 'leaders' to speak (or not) and thus tell us what our position is. We are all quite capable of calibrating our moral compasses without having to wait for word from on high. Sure, when high profile people say something we might agree with there may be a little cheer, but that has to be seen in the context of the demonisation of anyone who didn't repeat approved trans activists mantras. Although that is changing.

JKR is held in higher regard than most because she puts her money where her mouth is, actively supporting a number of projects and causes targeted at women and children. But she isn't the Messiah.

Honestly, I think you and those like you would be much happier if you let her move out of your head.

She hasnt made me my morning coffee. The kettle is 10m away and im going to have to walk myself.

Surely she coukd have arranged an Owl Post delivery for every woman by now?

I’m going to have to go DOWNSTAIRS for mine. Does she give a fuck? She does not.

Shedmistress · 06/10/2026 10:01

I DO find it FUNNY when men come here berating women for not believing all women, whilst also berating us for having opinions that they do not themselves believe.

Almost like complete and utter hypocracy.

No. Not a single pointless virtue signalling SM sweetie tossed to the consumerist and quite madly judgmental masses.

Just goes on actually doing real stuff.

Bitch.

Yes, setting up Beira’s Place is a confusing move. I for one have not a clue what she thinks about it. That’s JKR for you.

FFS - Away and actually do something useful! Go and lecture MEN if you want, maybe American men, how dare you pitch up on here and use this horrific story to try and win points against women on here! Absolutely shameful.

The second time it’s been attempted in a matter of days.

She really is quite the mysterian. She should write fantasy novels or something.

@Ereshkigalangcleg It's like actions speak louder than words isn't it?
