Silence on Cornell

So… about J.K. Rowling. And the Cornell Seven, but we will get to that.

Here’s the thing: I liked Harry Potter growing up. It was the first and only chapter book my mom read to me, and I learned to read so I could read the second on my own after she refused to so so (for my own benefit).
Each year I was in school, there was a new book. I loved that they grew in depth as the characters aged. Yes, there were problems and problematic characters, but that’s a later subject.

I soured on Harry Potter when JKR kept adding things from the Pottermore website as canon: making Dumbledore gay was fine and easy to see in the book (see Grindelwald!), but the thing I hated was making Dumbledore in love with Harry
The greatest wizard of an age, hero and mentor to our protagonist… was revealed to be a pedophile in the post-script.
That’s shitty. My appreciation for the series soured after that, because suddenly the only “gay” representation is predatory and a heinous crime at that.

Fast forward a few years, and we see JKR’s anti-trans stance. Why? “Because she’s protecting real women!” She’s a TERF (derogatory) at best, but I think she’s actually much worse than that.

You see, she views those who support her works as synonymous with supporting her views, so to engage with her beloved franchise is to embolden her anti-trans and pro-billionaire crusade.

She recently bullied Amnesty International into apologizing to her for simply stating facts (look it up!)

She wields real power in many ways, but what does she use it for? Oppression of the marginalized.

Now we come to the latest, and in many ways most concerning, activity or, rather, lack thereof; the Cornell 7.

Not once has she spoken or tweeted about the Cornell 7 (see attached image), a subject which would be *directly in support of women,” her alleged championed-cause.
She could speak out on this cause with ease, reaching millions. She could, at a stroke, fund all of Jane Doe's legal costs. But she doesn't. When there's actually a genuine case of harm of women but one that doesn't have the desired effect of harming marginalized communities she's as silent as the grave.

So no. I can’t in good faith engage with the franchise i used to love BECAUSE of the author, and JKR needs a real wake-up call before she does more harm.

“Talks on behalf of women” my ass. She’s almost as bad as Trumplestien.

And still nobody, absolutely nobody, has managed to answer my post with anything approaching a valid counter-argument.

Not surprised tbh.

Most people are not going to "counter-argue" useless, blather from a confused man who is showing us all that as soon as a transwoman gets angry, their male anger and violence comes forth. It NEVER fails and I thank you for proving that point.
Take your AI generated garbage and go ffind someone who might actually GAFS, you twat-waffle.

No-one is expected to comment on every item in the news, not even you. It's ridiculous to expect JKR or anyone else to do so. 🙄

Error404FucksNotFound · 05/10/2026 18:06

Tbh I dont care what if anything she has to say about it.

I care what the police are doing about it.
I care what the university is doing about it.
I care what men are doing about it.

I dont see any value in trying to shove her into it.

I would prefer to focus on the issue rather than try to use it to have a crack at her. That is distasteful, to say the least.

I suspect not, I am not sure The Donald could manage two whole paragraphs...

But OP is definitely as deluded as Trump.

OP, did you actually expect the whole world to revolve around US news? Americans have a reputation for arrogantly thinking they're the centre of the universe, its not a stereotype you should be trying to live up to.

I did want to ask you what you thought about my electric bill going up. And my water bill! Mon Dieu!
Lat thing, should I paint my bathroom gray or go mostly white with just a gray tinge?

So the US has no extremely rich people of its own who could fund this poor women's costs, then? Musk, Bezos, Zuckerberg all skint now, are they? And there's you boasting about how America's the greatest, yet expecting a British women to step up when your billionaires don't. I'd be deeply embarrassed in your place.

Says the person from the country with a wrecked economy (our stock market - that rules the world, by the way - is doing juuuust fine), mass stabbings everywhere, and really bad teeth!

We're number 1 in tech as well. You think yr Mumsnet is on a British server? think again. Only AWS - AMERICAN TECH - has the power to run the world's servers.
And that computer yr typign your bullshit on? Windows or Apple. American brands.

Everything in the modern world you get from us

Mate, the US recorded 407 mass shootings in 2025. The entire UK recorded just 236 knife-related homicides over a year, and that's ALL fatal stabbings, not just mass attacks.

And in case you bring up population differences, the US homicide rate is nearly SEVEN TIMES the UK's per head. In fact, your gun homicide rate alone is over FIVE TIMES our total homicide rate.

The UK has its problems, but suggesting there are ‘mass stabbing everywhere’ is a really weird thing to do when your country is in the state it’s in when it comes to mass shootings…

The claim of 'mass stabbings everywhere in the U.K.' tends to come from far right media sources, which might explain a lot about this poster.

VimesandhisCardboardBoots · 05/10/2026 18:27

Huh, I must have missed the bit where JKR had a position of power at Cornell. Or was an American politician. Or had absolutely any connection at all to a crime committed by a bunch of shitty men.

JKR has chosen to fight against shitty men. That's brilliant. She's fucking awesome for it. That doesn't mean she has to fight against every single shitty man. How the fuck could she. It'd be impossible if she limited herself to every shitty man in Scotland, let alone the ones in every other country on the planet.

What happened at Cornell is abhorrent. But what's becoming increasingly clear is that is isn't unique, or special. It's just one in an incredibly long list of crimes perpetrated by shitty men. JKR can't, and what's more shouldn't have to comment on every single one, just because she's highlighted some of them.

The only shame here is the shame those men should be feeling.

Dominoodles · 05/10/2026 18:30

I just hope you have the exact same energy for any trans activist who doesn't comment on the plight of women in Palestine and Afghanistan, who don't openly and loudly talk about FGM and forced child marriage. I hope you also make hateful threads about people you would otherwise support because they fail to publicly discuss something you find important.

Or... Are you just doing this because you already had hatred for her, and you care more about using these terrible things as a stick to beat her with rather than the actual valid causes they are? If you're not condemning the people you like in the exact same way for exact same things, then why only her? Is it because when she does something bad it's a reason for you to pretend to be superior, even when you don't call out your peers for doing the exact same thing?

Don't use the horror of what happened to that poor woman as an excuse to show hatred towards another woman.

Or, in other words, The Cult doesn't like anyone who speaks out against the worshipful deity of The Cult. You and your verifiable facts have no place in The Cult.

And you, my dear, are ridiculous 🤪

"Another TRA using the gang rape of a woman to make a point."

You are technically correct, but not for the reasons you've invented in your misunderstanding of the situation.

I am using the horrific gang rape of a woman over here in the US to make a point; the point that your own deified JKR is not - as she claims a champion of standing up for women.

What I am not doing is abusing the horrific gang rape of a woman over here in the US. That concept exists solely in your head and, I strongly suspect, has been invented so as not to spoil the narrative of your internal logic that allows you to read facts and yet still continue to support and cheer for a woman who has repeatedly and demonstrably used her disproportionate power and wealth to punch downwards at marginalized people and communities.

I think you're probably able to see the difference between those two.

And as for your beloved JKR; you think she cares about women's safety?
You are wrong. That is a mask she puts on to justify her true obsession; the obsession with trans women and pushing her anti-trans, bigoted beliefs and propaganda.

Currently, the ‘horrific gang rape of a woman over here in the US’ is unsubstantiated. It’s alleged. Get your facts right dear.

The guys at the centre of this rape case in the US

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cqvg04718lr9o

Just FYI, this OP is the second poster who has weaponised this case to make a point about unrelated trans issues.
Yes, you read that right. Weaponised a rape case to score cheap points about something else.
That's one of the reasons why the OP is getting pushback.

Edited

As the case is currently under investigation it would be completely inappropriate (imo) for someone as influential as JKR to comment as it could prejudice the outcome.

Not to mention that if she were to comment our new friend and all their little pals would also complain about that too.

You might want to mention that it is "some Americans" instead of shoving us all together. I mean, should I say that the UK is anti-semetic because some in a certain party are?

Not usually best to paint everyone with the same broad marker.

Although I'd argue that american cultural imperialism and british exceptionalalism are both linked, and all of our issues.
