M&S toilet rapist

Turns out last 3 years whilst M&S management have insisted gender neutral ie. Mixed sex facilities are entirely fine they have been aware a teenage girl was raped in the toilets of their Oxford store.

Mumsnet doesn’t like archive links. If you put this link https://www.oxfordmail.co.uk/news/26582305.oxford---man-20-jailed-raping-teenage-girls-public-toilets/ into archive. ph (remove the space) you can read the story.

Those poor girls 😢 sentence is much too short.

Rapist jailed for toilet attacks that left victim with 'dark days and panic attacks'

A 20-year-old rapist has been jailed in Oxford for attacks on two girls which left one struggling with ‘dark days and panic attacks’.

To be fair to them they are such a massive feminist that they were objecting to anti-women U.K. Supreme Court rulings a couple of decades before the Supreme Court was even established. That's dedication, right there.

Yeah, there's a noticeable "theme" running through those particular posts...

You will get the tired old "no attacker is deterred by a sign on the door" argument

and the "no women's toilet is a 100% safe space" argument

and those statements are true BUT if a space is designated for women only, everyone knows a man should not be there. Including those men themselves. And if he's there, he's up to no good (unless he's an authorised cleaner, etc).

Men really don't, generally, want to go in women's loos. The nice men, the horrible men, the drunk men, the desperate-for-a-pee men, the young men, the old men. They just don't.

So why does a small minority of men feel entitled to?

You are right , 'the good men stay out so the bad men stand out' held true up to very recently, and hopefully will soon be re-asserted.

I tried to keep my post very specific, about the risk of rape:
if a women-only space is actually 100% women-only, the risk of rape [UK definition] is zero.
If the 100% women-only status is breached, the risk of rape is no longer zero. Therefore, all men, however they ID, should keep out in order to keep the risk of rape at zero.
[with thoughts for rape survivors for whom this isn't an intellectual exercise] :.

I'd welcome it if anybody who is against, or indifferent to, authentically-women-only women's spaces could point out where that logic is wrong.

The toilets in my local M&S used to be single sex and it was probably the only place in the shopping centre where you could be pretty certain that the toilets would be clean and usable.

Sadly they have had a recent refurbishment and now the toilets are fully enclosed cubicles and can all be used by both sexes. They have also situated them at the back of the store off a narrow corridor where there is no natural footfall. If there was an incident in one of the cubicles, absolutely nobody would notice unless they were heading to the toilet themselves.

So basically they’ve taken away perfectly good single sex provisions and turned them into dirty, unsafe areas. And that’s progress 🙄

A natural consequence of the Great Victory. Enjoy!

But aren't we told constantly that disabled toilets must have gaps so disabled people can be monitored in case of an accident?

You don’t live in the UK do you, your posts on here indicate you’ve no idea what is normal for public/shop toilets in the UK

BY the "Great Victory" I assume you mean the SC clarifying the law and some providers consequently making their facilities mixed sex?

What a strange, sneering take on women wanting their right to privacy and dignity upheld.

Of course I do. What an odd post.

Rude maybe? but not offensive, don't exaggerate,.

Fortunately the moderators agreed and removed the offensive post.

Duckyfondant · 05/10/2026 10:26

This is stunningly offensive. Disabled people and their toilet use must be monitored or girls will be raped?! What the actual fuck is wrong with you?

It is exactly what happened here.

Coatsoff42 · 05/10/2026 16:51

Another example of why women are wary of men in toilets. It’s alarming to see a man in the women’s toilets for evidence based reasons, and telling women they should pretend to be fine with men as long as they are in a dress, is ridiculous.

The alternative of course being girls being raped. I think you need to reacquaint yourself with reality - I support single sex spaces.

No you don’t - who are you trying to fool?

You pop up on every bloody thread arguing for trans women to be allowed into female spaces. Endless hairsplitting about it.

You are desperate to demolish any line between women (female adults) and trans women (males who want to be women).

Your posts are the odd posts, you seem to know nothing about how disabled toilets are usually set up in the UK and in general people don’t have to use them personally to have some idea.
Alternative possible explanation is you’re very immature and unobservant.

No, I don't. I've been very clear that I support single sex spaces where appropriate. But sure, you know much better than I about what I think. Odd post.

Well we’re still waiting for one of these examples you claim exist….. if there are so many, it’ll be easy to name one right…..

To give two examples - healthcare settings and some toilets should absolutely be single sex.

Mylovelygreendress · 05/10/2026 22:09

@alcovecupboards what about schools ? Pubs? Theatres ? Shopping centres ? Airports ? Etc etc

alcovecupboards · 05/10/2026 22:13

Mylovelygreendress · 05/10/2026 22:08

No, it's two examples as the post states. Did you want an exhaustive list? Because I'm afraid I won't be doing that.

Mylovelygreendress · 05/10/2026 22:09

@alcovecupboards what about schools ? Pubs? Theatres ? Shopping centres ? Airports ? Etc etc

Why on earth would schools, pubs, theatres, shopping centres, or airports be single sex? With the possible exception of single sex schools, that list is demonstrably mad. Possibly madder than the woman who wanted a single sex mountain.

Mylovelygreendress · 05/10/2026 22:19

So you don’t think schoolgirls should have privacy ?

alcovecupboards · 05/10/2026 22:20

Mylovelygreendress · 05/10/2026 22:24

We are discussing toilets yes ? You said that “ some “ toilets should be single sex so I asked about schools and you didn’t agree .

Do you not think that girls and boys should have separate toilets in schools ?
