Stephen King's response to Rowling on sex and gender discussions

Stephen King was asked a simple question - are trans women women? - and when he said yes, one of the most wealthy writers in the world turned on him.

J.K. Rowling had just publicly showered him with praise. Within hours of his answer, she deleted it and, in King's words, "sorta blocked" him.

King is one of the most famous novelists alive, and he didn't walk it back or cast himself as the victim. He said plainly that nobody had cancelled Rowling - he just thought she was wrong. He turns 79 today, still saying it.

He could have kept the friend and stayed quiet. He said yes instead.

Because they believe it IS their place. While a significant number of women disagree. But not all women. It’s a mess.

I thought I recognised the tone 😀

And his birthday (according to Wiki, so might not be true) is the 21st September not today.

I’m still wrangling with the whole thing. Being a woman, having a daughter and also a nephew who says (and the parents agree) is now my “niece”.

Thanks for posting the real details, in light of it I would say the OP has been busted for spreading dis-information, just regurgitating a warped version of old news in an attempted to prop up some warped point about JKR.

And with respect to Stephen Fry, it means SF publicly described her as a former friend who he found "radicalized " (By her sex realism), and she responded by clarifying they had never been more than acquaintances. It doesn't have the same meaning when a public criticism, especially one that you have changed beyond recognition, comes from a real friend or from someone who could not claim to know you deeply in the first place. OP mentioned a friendship between Rowling and King, so should source it as well.

It's not about No Debate, it's about the Utter Contempt she clearly has for him for giving in to the mob. I share her opinion of him, and many other things.
It happened years ago, it's being dragging it up now in some pathetic attempt to demonise her, again.

Rowling tweeted a quote by Andrea Dworkin in a thread that read, "'Men often react to women's words — speaking and writing — as if they were acts of violence; sometimes men react to women's words with violence.' It isn't hateful for women speak about their own experiences, nor do they deserve shaming for doing so."

That in no way is about trans women being women but about women's right to speak freely. So no, he never changed his stand or gave into the mob.

And its laughably ironic given the Dworkin comment she posted that JKR blocks someone for their opinion.

Currently, I'm inclined to believe the poster I responded to's version, not yours, theirs was 'lived experience' after all, yours is repeating social media white noise.

For gods sake did you even read the thread?. This poster claimed King 'caved to the mob' by initially retweeting the quote JKR posted & then agreeing trans women were women as if the initial quote had anything to do with trans women being women when it didn't;
