This information is for trans (transgender) and non-binary people in England. It tells you about the adult NHS screening programmes that are available in England and explains who we invite for screening.

We use trans as an umbrella term to embrace the diverse range of identities outside the traditional male/female definitions. These include transgender, gender fluid and non-binary.

Full details and listings (long) at https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/nhs-population-screening-information-for-transgender-people/nhs-population-screening-information-for-trans-people

Just think if created by sex it would be of use to everyone, and even educated some about screening that might need or should have.

I don't see anything wrong with it. It's factual information about how they will be called up, or not, for screening depending on the sex they are registered as. I don't personally believe sex should be changed in GP records but regardless, the fact is that it can be and that affects screening.

There is nothing wrong with writing outreach literature for specific populations in a way that is accessible to them. The issue arises when general information is bastardised and made incomprehensible to your average person.

I'm GC but I don't want trans-identified people to miss out on healthcare and if this information helps then great. Being against it simply because it doesn't correlate with your personal beliefs is spiteful in my opinion.

I agree with this. I'm also GC BTW.
It's like the leaflets on certain vaccines that tell you which ones are made with pork products and why and what the alternatives are, for Muslim patients and parents.
Not applicable to me but might keep someone else, who has radically different beliefs to me, healthy.

For me, this section stood out.

Trans men who are pregnant should be offered the same antenatal and new born screening tests antenatal and newborn screening tests as all other pregnant individuals.

Aside from the fact that I've never understood why someone so desperate to be male would want to become pregnant, the bit I've highlighted in bold is what really pisses me off. They still can't bring themselves to use the word woman. Who else would all these other individuals be if not women? Is it such a dangerous word that we can't allow it to be used for fear of offending someone?

So in your eyes are octogenarians a minority? They have a specific protected characteristic and make up a small percentage of the population.

I understand the conversation has moved on a bit since this point, but the NHS does actually have materials specifically aimed at older people, because they are likely to have specific needs, both because of their older bodies but also slightly different social/psychological needs/worries.

Conversely, conditions that predominantly affect older people (like Parkinson's or Alzheimer's) might need some different literature available for younger sufferers, because someone who is diagnosed with something like dementia at the age of 35 will have different worries - like 'will I have to give up work' or 'how can I parent?' that just won't be relevant to an 80 year old.

Basically, people are different and the NHS tries to support them from where they are. That is true of trans people as well as all the other groups who get that kind of tailored info/support. It's not unusual.

I think it would be more effective if the NHS kept the sex of people on their records and recorded the new gender identity if people wanted.
Then people will be invited to screenings relevant to their sex and this should be effective in improving health outcomes overall for trans people.
It would also be easier to target people who have recorded changes to their gender identity on the NHS records and send out specific literature to this group.
If the NHS is looking to improve health outcomes for this section of the population this would be more effective than a leaflet that people have to search for online.

Im sure they are trying to be kind and sensitive to trans people’s feelings but I think it would be better if at the point of someone recording changes to their gender they were made aware they will still receive communication relevant to their sex as this will be a prevention measure against cancer and other diseases.

So your advice to the NHS is: pretend minorities don't exist, and be rude to them if they insist they do?

Well, thank goodness you weren't doing AIDS messaging in the 1980s.

This message has literally nothing to do with you. It's a call for a minority you're not part of to get tested for cancer. But you're still objecting to it.

Have you ever considered that hating trans people has taken over your life, and that you seek out everything to do with them - no matter what it is, even when you can't spin it as harming women - to complain about them? It's a bit sad.

People who say they are the opposite sex or no sex at all, are of either male or female sex, just like the rest of the planet.

If they do not know what sex they are, how could they be 'trans'?

It is all such utter bullshit.

AIDS testing was aimed at a recognisable minority, homosexual men, who were a greater risk of AIDS than heterosexual men because of some sexual practices. Their sexual orientation is a matter of historical record and falsifiable. Trans ideology is all in the head and has no basis in reality, is unfalsifiable. It is a delusion and delusion has no place in diagnosis of sex-specifc health problems e.g. cervical cancer. The only fear trans people have is that their 'identity' will be unvalidated by male-specific or female-specific screening - and that's a mental health problem.

@TransParentlyAnnoyed - speaking the truth is not hatred.

I do not hate trans people - I hate the ideology that says children should be given irreversibly harmful puberty blockers, hormones and surgeries, and that women and girls cannot have single sex spaces or groups. The ideology that says lesbians should agree to penetrative sex with a penis just because the man it is attached to claims to be a woman.

I hate the ideology that relies on outdated, toxic stereotypes - if you like pink, skirts, make up, long hair you must be a woman, and if you have short hair, love rugby, never wear dresses or skirts or make up, you must be a boy.

We have spent decades ridding ourselves of these stereotypes - of people saying that a ‘true’ woman couldn’t wear skirts, that a ‘true’ woman behaves in a feminine fashion, wears make up, never swears - and now the trans ideologues want to send us hurtling back to the 40s.

XX = female, XY = male - these are facts. Human beings cannot change sex - no hormones, medications or surgeries can give a man a functioning vagina or a female reproductive or hormone system.

Not as nonsensical as believing in “gender identity” but hey ho. There you go. Pregnancy is a protected characteristic because women are often victimised, discriminated against and treated poorly for being pregnant. After she is pregnant, you are right, the pregnancy protected characteristic is no longer relevant. The protected characteristic is there whilst she is pregnant and for up to a year after birth.

Strawman, I don't believe in gender identity nor do the vast majority of people here. That doesn't render gender reassignment non-existent or not a protected characteristic.

Because it's specialist literature aimed at a population of women who do not want to be women and feel distressed about being referred to as such. I couldn't give a monkeys as long as dehumanising language isn't thrust on all of us.
