This information is for trans (transgender) and non-binary people in England. It tells you about the adult NHS screening programmes that are available in England and explains who we invite for screening.

We use trans as an umbrella term to embrace the diverse range of identities outside the traditional male/female definitions. These include transgender, gender fluid and non-binary.

Full details and listings (long) at https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/nhs-population-screening-information-for-transgender-people/nhs-population-screening-information-for-trans-people

Just think if created by sex it would be of use to everyone, and even educated some about screening that might need or should have.

You said nothing about discrimination. You said a minority had a protected characteristic. If we’re talking people with a protected characteristic that are discriminated against, women would be a minority by your definition.

What do you think a protected characteristic is there to address? And the part you’re missing here is that I said people with gender reassignment make up a tiny percentage of the population

So do women who have English as a second language, but it was considered no big deal if they didn’t get screening because they didn’t understand the language used. So if it was ok for them to have to miss screening because they didn’t realise they were eligible, then it’ll be ok if a TIF doesn’t realise she’s included because she doesn’t understand the language used? Or is it different if the person is trans?

TheProvincialLady · 11/09/2026 20:10

Octogenarians are not discriminated against? Great news! Ageism is defeated for people over 79!

You were arguing that trans people aren’t a minority before and weren’t even talking about language Do you now know agree they are a minority?

The vast majority of people know whether they are male or female, whether they have a penis or a vagina, whether they have a prostate or a cervix - no matter how they choose to identify or to categorise themselves.

If you are adult enough to make serious choices about your body and identity, you are adult enough to hear the word cervix without melting like an ice cream in a heatwave. Stop expecting to be coddled with stupid terms like cervix-haver and either man-up or woman-up - your choice - and get cervical screening if you have a cervix.

If you have a cervix, you need cervical screening - it is that simple.

Exactly. But it appears only transpeople are an oppressed minority

No. They are not a minority. They are either male or female. Neither of those are minorities. Women are oppressed though and face daily discrimination. Especially those without English as their first language. To be honest, as non binary comes under the trans umbrella, and non binary is a rejection of gendered stereotypes and not identifying with them, it could be argued everyone is non binary as no one adheres to all the stereotypes for their gender. Therefore transpeople are actually a majority. So yay for them!!

Black men are men which meant they are not a minority according your logic

And so are TIM. They are also men so not a minority. Black men are as they have a verifiable characteristic. Men claiming to be women do not. No one can prove gender identity actually exists. Race can be proven to exist.

Isn’t race a social construct like gender identity?

So are money, age and class. What’s your point? Are you saying race is not real? Wow! That’s a hot take right there? The thing is, race is verifiable. Gender identity is not. People can be gender fluid, they cannot be race fluid. People can opt out of gender (unless you are claiming non binary is bollocks), they cannot opt out of their race. People can claim to be a gender they are not, (see TIM ,TIF, and NB). and it is accepted. People cannot claim to be a race they are not (see Rachel Dolezal), who was vilified for claiming to be a race she was not, even though she identified as black.

In conclusion, black men are a minority because they are oppressed because of their race, transpeople are not a minority because is a TIM decided tomorrow he was actually a man, he would no longer be an oppressed minority. Black men do not have that privilege. You cannot identify into or out of race.

This is nonsense. It's like saying pregnancy isn't a protected characteristic because the woman chose to get pregnant and won't be that way after she gives birth.

Not as nonsensical as believing in “gender identity” but hey ho. There you go. Pregnancy is a protected characteristic because women are often victimised, discriminated against and treated poorly for being pregnant. After she is pregnant, you are right, the pregnancy protected characteristic is no longer relevant. The protected characteristic is there whilst she is pregnant and for up to a year after birth.

Well do you then agree that gender reassignment is a protected characteristic because trans peopl are often victimised, discriminated against and treated poorly for being trans?

No. When people in power believe a man who says he’s a woman before they’ll believe a woman saying he’s not, you cannot argue that transpeople are victimised, discriminated against and treated poorly can you?

When women are threatened with rape, death and violence for saying no to men demanding entry into their single sex spaces and this is endorsed by politicians you cannot argue that transpeople are marginalised.

when rape survivors are told that requesting single sex groups make them bigots and they must “reframe their trauma” around sharing spaces with males, you can’t say transpeople are excluded can you?

You seen to have some very specific grievances, but none of what you’ve said proves trans people aren’t discriminating against or marginalised. I’m not denying those things have happened, but them happening doesn’t meant trans discrimination doesn’t exist.

So how are they discriminated against? How are they marginalised? By not being treated in accordance with their identity? By people refusing to accept their delusions? Nah mate. That is not discrimination or marginalisation.

We're talking about disproportionate rates of violent assault, workplace firing, housing discrimination, and being denied basic healthcare. Dismissing all of that as just a disagreement over pronouns is incredibly ignorant

Is there any evidence of that actually happening in the UK of rates above the male population? Are trans people really being denied housing on the basis that they’re trans here?

what healthcare are they denied? Who is violently assaulting transpeople? Why are they getting fired? Without these facts we cannot determine if these things are happening because they are trans or because of other factors. I mean, women have disproportionate rates of violent assaults, workplace firing, housing discrimination and are denied basic healthcare. So are you saying women are part of a group who are marginalised and discriminated against and therefore need protecting? In that case, surely you should be campaigning against those who are trying to remove women’s rights to single sex spaces don’t you think?

So no facts to back up your argument. Gotcha. In that case I’ll give your er… points the respect and attention they deserve. None. Mind you last time I was told to educate myself I went from trans ally to full on TERF. If I do more research, I may become… ultra TERF!
