Reality Rules Parkrun Launch 3 October 2026

Today was another Parkrun Saturday and like every weekend the achievements by women was demoted by men running in the female category.

We are hoping to change this! In only a few weeks time, we will debut Reality Rules Runners UK at Parkrun. We hope that many hundreds (hopefully thousands) of you will join us to send a clear and strong statement to Parkrun about the huge support there is for fairness and sex-based categories at their events.

All sports events are responsible for putting on fair events. This includes free, volunteer run, community events like Parkrun.

So please tell people about Reality Rules Runners UK, as we are hoping to attract lots more supporters before our debut at Parkrun on 3 October.

Thank you! 🙏

That’s been suggested before but there could be people running (in the correct category) who may be convicted criminals. They may be reformed. Why should they be discriminated against because a man runs as a woman?

Edited

Ok, so if you think parkrun should only remove records from people with an unspent conviction, do you think parkrun should reinstate them once their convictions are spent? (Applying the same rule to everyone.)

The category for which they register.

And which category would you imagine they are most likely to register for?

Once again, parkrun is NOT a race. It’s a community event!

You can’t ride a horse or a motorbike through hundreds of joggers for safety reasons, not competition / ‘fairness’ reasons.

  1. Why do they publish times in categories at all?
  2. Your position that horses in a footrace are silly but men in a women's race aren't is still ridiculous.

FlirtsWithRhinos · 02/10/2026 10:34

Yes. And sex still makes a significant difference.

As long as the sports are not banned, why don't you think women should be allowed the choice to participate in female-only categories that reduce their risk considerably?

It doesn't reduce the risk of long term CTE though; the blows don't have to be massive.

The need for a mobility scooter is statistically greater in older ages but younger participants may also require one.

It’s a community event with published timings and rankings (including a percentage age grade). Lots of us like to have that information, that’s why many people register. If it was JUST a community event, they wouldn’t need to.

Yes, and for some of us (the sane among us) men competing in the women’s category is the same as having a motorbike in a bicycle race etc. I’m not denigrating women by saying that but it’s a fact that men have distinct physical advantages over women.

They do, which is why there is a women’s category in the first place.

Not strictly true. While Parkrun does acknowledge safety reasons. Their regulations regarding 'Wheels' starts.

"We welcome forms of participation that are considered equivalent to walking, jogging or running." (My emphasis)

Literally no one thinks that. It's a stupid strawman you introduced to avoid having to acknowledge that parkrun's sexist policies have lead to having a convicted male killer listed as a record-holding woman.

Can you not understand the safety difference between a motorbike or a horse and a human in a crowd? That’s the argument I’m making and if you can’t follow it, there’s not much more to say.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 02/10/2026 10:42

How about Parkrun inc just tell the selfish men to play ball and be honest about their sex, and that it’s taken on trust. Thats surely in the spirit?

Literally in the post I was replying to did someone suggest that it would be unfair to discriminate against those who had reformed (which I used having a spent conviction as a proxy to demonstrate such)

Ereshkigalangcleg · 02/10/2026 10:43

Why so much special pleading for selfish male cheats?

FlirtsWithRhinos · 02/10/2026 10:43

PollyNomial · 02/10/2026 10:37

It doesn't reduce the risk of long term CTE though; the blows don't have to be massive.

It reduces the total risk though. Why don't you want women to have the option to reduce their risk to just that posed by other women? Seems very petty to force women to submit to being hit by men or quit a sport they want to participate in altogether. Vindictive even.

Can’t cheat in a not-a-competition!

Ereshkigalangcleg · 02/10/2026 10:44

Get rid of all the personal information and just have names then, if it’s “not a competition” 🤷‍♀️

And what do the acronyms MWC and WWC mean?

Jeska’s conviction for attempted murder can never be “spent” as he was sentenced to more than 4 years in prison.

As I said, I’m fully open to conversations about whether boxing should be banned, but that’s not the point, the point is the silly whataboutery that sex isn’t relevant, because the poster knows that isn’t a very good argument.

I don't want women to be hit by anyone (or men to be hit by anyone come to that) because of the risks of CTE.

In reply to you suggesting the "oh fuck we've ended up with a male killer holding a woman's record, that does kind of look bad" situation parkrun have found themselves in could be fudged by just say[ing] "we remove records of convicted criminals"...

To point out how stupid your strawman was.

Dear god, I know you are stuck defending a premise that was always unjust and illogical in the first place, but you at least could try and keep up with your own arguments!

And that is your choice. We are talking about women who are not you and want to participate in the women's version of the sport.

Until such time as the sport itself is banned, your position appears to be they are allowed to participate but only if they consent to being hit by men.

Which rather suggests you don't actually care about safety at all, you are just looking for a fudge so you can avoid acknowledging what your "values" lead to.

Can’t cheat in a not-a-competition!

It's competitive. Try taking a massive shortcut in sight on the finish line Marshalls and see if they let your time stand.
