Today was another Parkrun Saturday and like every weekend the achievements by women was demoted by men running in the female category.

We are hoping to change this! In only a few weeks time, we will debut Reality Rules Runners UK at Parkrun. We hope that many hundreds (hopefully thousands) of you will join us to send a clear and strong statement to Parkrun about the huge support there is for fairness and sex-based categories at their events.

All sports events are responsible for putting on fair events. This includes free, volunteer run, community events like Parkrun.

So please tell people about Reality Rules Runners UK, as we are hoping to attract lots more supporters before our debut at Parkrun on 3 October.

Thank you! 🙏

If you think women are experiencing something equivalent to racism because trans women are allowed to take part alongside them in a non-competitive community event then I don’t think there’s much space to have a sensible discussion with you.

Dunno about racism, but they are certainly experiencing sexism. More than one form of it as well.

They could just say "we remove records of convicted criminals"...

I’d love to see their justification for that.

It’s a good idea to think things through before posting.

Xanhi · 02/10/2026 11:10

I think park run is taken a bit too seriously by some.

Can you not understand the safety difference between a motorbike or a horse and a human in a crowd? That’s the argument I’m making and if you can’t follow it, there’s not much more to say.

I understand they are different, and I understand both are ridiculous.

Why do parkrun publish category times and ranks for their non-competetive fun run?

Why do they even have an age grading system so runners can get a sense of where they rank overall?

If no one cares?

TheKeatingFive · 02/10/2026 11:12

@PollyNomialThese women have signed up to box other women. That’s what they’ve given consent for.

If they end up boxing men, that is an extraordinary breech of that consent.

How on earth can you support this as the right and just thing to do. It is an appalling betrayal of women’s rights.

Do you not believe women’s consent is important, is that it?

FlirtsWithRhinos · 02/10/2026 11:13

Ereshkigalangcleg · 02/10/2026 10:43

Why so much special pleading for selfish male cheats?

💯

The simple question all this nitpicking and flimflam is intended to distract from.

borntobequiet · 02/10/2026 11:17

Saying that men should be able to compete against women in boxing because it is a dangerous and harmful sport and should be banned anyway is something I’ve seen before on here. Suitable words to describe it are illogical, disingenuous and misogynistic.

But there's no transphobia here, right?

I don't know why people use the expression transphobia.

Firstly, a phobia is an irrational fear.

Is it actually irrational to fear male-bodied people in womens spaces?

Anyway when it comes to parkrun nobody is scared of having male bodied people run in the womens category, they don't want it because it's unfair. Very different.

And believing that men can become women is Emperors New Clothes.

I think park run is taken a bit too seriously by some.

As I said upthread it's not just parkrun, it's some races as well. Which are meant be split on the basis of sex, not gender reassignment.

Cadeaukatze · 02/10/2026 11:31

BackToLurk · 02/10/2026 10:40

Not strictly true. While Parkrun does acknowledge safety reasons. Their regulations regarding 'Wheels' starts.

"We welcome forms of participation that are considered equivalent to walking, jogging or running." (My emphasis)

https://support.parkrun.com/hc/en-us/articles/115001826529-1-8-Wheels

Although you get entitled parents bringing their kids on bikes and saying it's it inclusive to say they can't rid their bikes for all the same reasons that are trotted out about trans people, oh well, it's not a race, does it matter, it's a community event blah blah.

One of the parkruns in Devon banned double buggies on a narrow course in the summer holidays and oh my god the comments.

There are sadly entitled people at parkrun with no common sense.

BackToLurk · 02/10/2026 11:38

It might be helpful if the supporters of the current policy could outline what they think the benefits of it are.

Inclusion?

Everyone - including trans people - feeling welcomed and encouraged to participate in a community event which is good for their health?

Trans people not having to out themselves as trans to take part, which can be unsafe?

People who ARENT competitive being able to enjoy a walk, or a jog with their pram, or some sociable outdoor time in their mobility scooter without having to care about categories and times if they don’t want to?

450,000 choose to participate each week, so I think many people see the benefits of the current set up.

parkrun is a lovely thing - it’s sad they’re having to deal with this.

PollyNomial · 02/10/2026 11:50

FlirtsWithRhinos · 02/10/2026 10:55

And that is your choice. We are talking about women who are not you and want to participate in the women's version of the sport.

Until such time as the sport itself is banned, your position appears to be they are allowed to participate but only if they consent to being hit by men.

Which rather suggests you don't actually care about safety at all, you are just looking for a fudge so you can avoid acknowledging what your "values" lead to.

I don't consider it possible to safely fight in boxing matches with any combination of age and sex.

Because of this, I can't and don't hold the position you are attempting to assert that I believe.

Rollingpinofdoom · 02/10/2026 11:54

Canadanian · 02/10/2026 10:08

As the figure globally is that about 3 million women and girls have taken part in or volunteered at a park run, and about 0.5-1% of the population is trans, I think there is plenty of evidence of women and girls’ participation levels. You have to ignore all the maths to pretend we don’t know about women and girls participating.

But how do you know they were women and girls and not TIM?

Canadanian · 02/10/2026 12:00

Rollingpinofdoom · 02/10/2026 11:54

But how do you know they were women and girls and not TIM?

How do I know it wasn’t 3 million trans women and 0 cis women?

um, because I understand maths and demographics and probability etc?

If I don't want people to be injured in car accidents caused by drunk/drug driving, I'm going to say "don't drink or take drugs before driving" and never "well, if you must drive under the influence, X is better than Y".

I don't want people to get CTE so I don't think anyone should fight. No qualifications or exceptions.

Yes. But it’s pretty much all that poster has.

As there is no such thing as a “cis woman”, the number will necessarily be zero.

Driving under the influence is illegal - women choosing to box isn't. However, when you do a sport that has risks associated with it, it's right to take every possible step to minimise that risk. That includes keeping men out of the female ring.

Just as well I don't say that then.

The only way to minimise risk in boxing is not to do it.

In which case I'll ask you again - applying the maths, how many men (the ones you refer to as TW) should hold the records in the women's categories, in your opinion?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 02/10/2026 12:12

This is a thread about males competing in the wrong sex category, @PollyNomial- boxing is only relevant to this specific thread because in the Paris Olympics a man competed against women in boxing. Hope that helps. Probably AIBU, Chat or a full page ad in the Times would be a better arena for your anti boxing campaign, rather than the sex and gender discussion board.

SirChenjins · 02/10/2026 12:12

PollyNomial · 02/10/2026 12:08

That's not what minimising means.
