Article on the threat to UK women from Afghan immigrants

"The statistics clearly show that Afghan nationals pose a disproportionate threat when it comes to sex offences. Last year, Sky News’s data and forensics unit – using annual population survey data from 2021 and Met Police figures – found that, for Afghan nationals, there were 59.2 sexual offence charges per 10,000 across England and Wales. The corresponding figure for UK nationals was 2.7 offences per 10,000 people."

https://www.spiked-online.com/2026/08/17/we-need-to-talk-about-afghan-sex-offenders/

The Spiked article actually misrepresents the Sky article, which does a deeper dive into the data and concludes "Our estimates conclude that Afghans are closer to three times more likely to be convicted of a sexual offence than someone born in the UK". NB though age is mentioned, i.e. recent migrants are more likely to be young and criminally active, neither seem to analyse sex, though it is mentioned in Farage's figures - there must be more male immigrants than female; presumably this has been taken into account?

More and more I find the threat, especially to women, troublesome and worrying. To generalise, the Left view all immigration as all fine and dandy; the Right disagree and want it reduced or stopped. On the other hand, Burnham's proposal to place asylum seekers in middle-class areas implicitly shows that he knows that they are problematic: "We cannot have a situation where it's only the poorest communities in the country that receive all of the dispersal of refugees and asylum seekers." If the refugees and asylum seekers are beneficial to the UK, which is promoted as the Left-wing view, then he would be saying that the rich/middle class areas will benefit from his plans, rather than saying they need to share the burden. "Blackpool, and other communities ... have had to take more than their fair share of asylum seekers," she [immigration minister Anna Turley] added. "That's put a huge burden on local communities and created real civil unrest." www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c204d4z1gg8o

TL:DR Are male immigrants, especially illegal ones, a particular threat to women, and if so what can be done?

We need to talk about Afghan sex offenders

Welcoming unvetted men into Britain from a deeply misogynistic culture is putting women at risk.

And if the statistics show that male asylum seekers from certain countries or certain religions are more likely to be sex offenders, then what?

The UK is obliged to accept ( some of them) under international treaties. So what do we do?

Is there any chance of some education being given or accepted? Training on our laws and cultural norms - a session on ‘myths’ about western women and male rights? Or is it the case that if you come from a medieval culture, you can never accept women as equal human beings. It’s hard enough for men in this country in this century.

To add, on your last paragraph, this is one reason why I would like to see more on the left engaging with the topic. More particularly women, specifically feminists. Before you can advocate for particular solutions you have to identify the problem. The left's refusal to do the first part sees them shut out of the second part.

I think we should accept asylum seekers "properly" or not at all

By properly I mean making sure they can speak English and understand British conventions and laws. That they are able to support themselves and not destitute. That they have a future. Leaving your country, family and friends behind is incredibly tough - add to that the trauma of war and you end up with isolated people at risk of serious mental health issues.

I'm thinking of the Iraqui asylum seeker that was granted asylum and left to his own devices in mid Wales as a brand new refugee. He spoke no English and was illiterate. Within a week he had been recruited by county lines and arrested.

If we cannot welcome refugees properly then we shouldn't do it at all. Something like "sorry UN and international agreements, we are a bit of a mess at the moment, we are a failing country and won't be able to take refugees until we get our house in order"

I am broadly centre left and always have been. This is what I think (and say) on this issue:

  1. The data shows there are greater levels of sexual assault by men of some immigrant communities than by British men (although they are a problem too)
  2. Successive governments have been asleep at the wheel over irregular migration for 10 years.
  3. We knew then that war, genocide and climate change were going to bring large immigrant populations to Europe from the Middle East and sub-Saharan Africa, and that the majority would be followers of Islam, which, in its more extreme forms, has values incompatible with those of the Christian-constructed West. That being the case, EU nation states should have begun then modifying European human rights law that has given rise to endless cycles of appeals when asylum is not granted.
  4. Some immigrants will bring trauma with them and their behaviour will reflect that.
  5. Therefore young men without documents should not be free to roam while they are being processed. They should be housed on Ministry of Defence estate and kept there until we know who they are and what decision we are going to make about them.
  6. Positive messaging about the contribution of immigrants who are working in the UK in the NHS, social care, education, hospitality etc should be pushed as one way of toning down the racist rhetoric from the right.
  7. I think face coverings in public places, for all reasons except medical or road safety, should be banned. (I said this at a local Labour Party meeting in 2005. If looks could kill....).

As with so much in government, issues are allowed to fester, and are only dealt with when crisis point is reached. However, virtually every Western European nation is dealing with the same issues. The price we are paying for this lamentable neglect is destabilised communities, the rise of nationalism and parties of the right which threaten the freedoms of everyone.

The issue is processing isn’t a catch all. The Belfast perpetrator had been granted asylum.

If the government cannot tell who is at risk what should happen?

Debbie is being sarcastic but it’s pretty close to some views on here so it’s hard to tell.

The government can't know who is in the country and what they're doing without some sort of centralised ID system for all residents.

Difficult, unpopular decisions

If having empathy for people fleeing war and persecution somehow ends in my death, I will gladly offer myself up for the cause. You do not insult me with that moniker.

And you don't get to prioritize often sexually repressive cultures into the UK because of a minority who could fit in and prosper.
And when the govt freely and transparently provides sexual and violence crimes by country and ethnicity, then we can have a worthwhile discussion.
But right now, the Labour govt is doing all it can by lawfare to prevent any meaningful stats being published. Why? If Afghan men especially were paragons of sexual civility, don't you think a left govt would love to share the data?
Apparently this isn't the case.

I don’t think that would fix it, Germany has a centralised ID system and a high number of undocumented migrants.

It really comes down to borders and entry.

My proposed approach is about reducing risk, not eliminating it. Eliminating it is not possible.

Who's going to do the sexual etiquette training? We already have a shortage of therapy on the state for UK citizens. Is this going to be another case of Brits going without, and "new citizens" getting preferential access?
Afghan men shown to be amongst the worst perps for violent and sexual crime, how long do you think they need in therapy when they've been brought up in a society of hyper misogyny?

Well, on your last point, the writer of this piece states in relation to the statistics on Afghanis.

"These findings shouldn’t surprise us. After all, Afghanistan ranks rock bottom out of 181 countries on Georgetown University’s Women, Peace and Security Index....And when those men come to the UK, many of them carry these attitudes with them."

The writer is the child of Bangladeshi immigrants. Bangladesh currently languishes at 155 on the same index. He himself appears to offer proof that those attitudes can be changed.

I don’t see how risk can be reduced. There’s no records available from the Taliban for instance.

The only thing used as a proxy vetting system are the victims who sadly show who is unsuitable. It’s too late then of course.

We may be at cross purposes. Risk would be reduced by asylum seekers being housed in Ministry of Defence accommodation and kept there, rather than in HMOs and hotels and being free to roam.

What data? The data says that white British men are most dangerous to women. If you want an account on the behaviour of migrant men there are a few posters on this forum who work directly with them and will tell you that they are actually really kind and hardworking people that do not mean us any harm whatsoever. I don't think you can get any better evidence than that, do you?

You'd think that someone who flees their country because the political situation puts them in danger, would be super keen to leave those values behind and embrace different ones.

Anyway I agree that asylum seekers should be in MOD accommodation while their applications are behind processed. And they should be processed quickly.

Also refugees who commit serious crimes should be sent back. Most of us find it easy to go about our lives without raping people after all.

Ah, this must be all the Afghan asylum seekers arriving are doctors and engineers etc argument. Of course there are exceptions. But by your very own quote, you're ok with letting not only men from the worst performing nation in, but the one who's war ethos makes things radically worse, with services on councilling and sexual health etc already underfunded and overstretched, and dumping these men in the poorest, most deprived areas of the UK.
How is this genuinely going to go? Because if you can't tell me how a rampantly misogynist culture can be adapted to acquiesce to Western standards, and our country is on its knees re lack of services and jobs, just how does integration happen?

That's not what the data says at all. Read the op which says migrants from Afghanistan are over 20x more likely to commit sexual offences than uk nationals. That's a very significant multiple. Not 20% more likely. 20 times more likely.

Edit: apologies, 20x the number of offences per 10,000 people. That could include multiple offences committed by the same man.

I don't think incarcerating asylum seekers is permitted under the laws we have.

I think asylum seekers should be allowed to work from day 1, and charged for their upkeep. As I understand it they are freely housed and given a daily allowance until their asylum is processed which currently takes about a year. That's a huge draw for a feckless young man, in my opinion.

Asylum seekers used to be able to seek work after being here for 6 months but that got extended to 12 months as the argument was being able to work was too much of a pull factor. But I disagree, I think being housed and fed for free for 12 months without having to work is much more of a pull factor.

Do we really believe the majority of Afghan men are fleeing their country because in addition to fearing their life, they value women and the Western way of things, and are eager to fit in, learn and crack on?
I venture to suggest that a vast proportion of those men are in danger purely due to inter-tribal rivalries, crime, dishonour. They still support the misogynist culture.
If we really think we're getting "the best of the best", then we must believe we're getting men who in addition to being doctors and engineers, are also good with women's rights, free speech, Western democracy, Enlightenment values.

ginasevern · 17/08/2026 16:53

@GreySkySummer "I work with many asylum seekers from Somalia and Afghanistan. They are all severely traumatised. The immigration system does not treat them with any humanity at all- it is not surprising the crime rate is higher in this group- why act with humanity when you’re not treated with it."

The Jews that fled Nazi Germany were utterly beyond traumatised, likewise the Vietnamese Boat People of the 1970's who arrived at our shores. Both were housed in internment camps but the former were actually imprisoned behind barbed wire knowing that their loved ones were being gassed in their millions. They faced extreme hostility, whilst the tabloids and trade unions promoted overtly racist and often vile rhetoric about them. Neither demographic were involved in criminality, let alone knife rampages, sexual assault and rape.

EmeraldRoulette · 17/08/2026 16:57

@Kingdomofsleep if you’re giving them jobs, what kind of jobs? Anything with a DBS check should be out. Then there’s the argument of why should they be offered employment when people who are citizens here may be desperate for work.

Offering them a chance to earn a British minimum wage will be a pull factor as well.

then how will their British colleagues feel? No way of vetting these people….

Really? Can you point to any reputable study that suggests that a typical white British man is more dangerous to women than an equivalent man who is not white British?

I also expect someone from Somalia would be much much more likely to be convicted that a white English man

Men traumatising other people, usually women and girls can’t be the answer.

Nonetheless, I would wager a lot of the women on this forum rightfully bemoaning the absolute state of modern British men would have a lot better chance of finding a decent partner if they widened their potential options somewhat. Many of them are amazing people who just want to be a part of a community that values them.

Gosh, just how silly these women are!
