Strange that both reports are from Scotland!

Major banks and insurers bar trans staff from Single-Sex spaces to comply with ruling

Major banks, insurance companies and building societies have tightened up their inclusion policies to prevent transgender staff from using single-sex spaces to comply with the landmark Supreme Court ruling. Admiral, Coventry Building Society and Santan...

'How do worms breathe?

Through their skin – but only if it’s kept moist. A worm’s skin is covered in mucus that helps them absorb oxygen. This is why they prefer to stay underground and come to the surface after rain. If a worm’s environment becomes too dry, it will dry out and be unable to breathe.'

Probably explains why some dragons can breathe fire 🔥🐉

murasaki · 14/08/2026 23:13

KnottyAuty · 14/08/2026 23:09

Im not convinced. Surely having a moist exterior might make worms more likely to suffer from asbestosis?

ETA obviously this is a worm sidetrack rather than a comment on beetles!

Edited

Apparently not. They get oxygen through the moist skin, but can't breath, per se so no asbestosis.

Oddly, when DP had to do an online H&S course before starting a new role earlier this year, it came up, and we were both ' 'we know the answer!')

Igneococcus · 14/08/2026 23:12

Asbestosis is specifically a lung condition. I don't know if it causes problems on contact with other tissues.

Well it’s a lung condition in humans… weve no idea in worms yet. Maybe Invisible Worms could be Criado Perez’s next project?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 14/08/2026 23:15

Why are H&S people so concerned with whether worms get asbestosis?

murasaki · 14/08/2026 23:16

I think the particles are too big to get through the skin. And no lungs to inhale it.

Wishesandhorses · 14/08/2026 23:16

Clusterfuckular · 14/08/2026 21:56

Although 'Major banks and insurers bar trans staff from Single-Sex spaces to comply with ruling'

What a terrible headline!

Isn't it?

Major banks and insurers comply finally with established legal protections for women having denied and excluded women in favour of men for years, (while providing alternative mixed sex spaces for those who do not want to use their single sex space to respect their identity)

Everything is ALWAYS only and all about the men.

Clusterfuckular · 14/08/2026 23:17

'In the recent study, Socha and his colleagues collected ground beetles from a local forest and taped each to a tiny mount. Then, they placed the beetles on a spot in a circular particle accelerator called the Advanced Photon Source at Argonne National Laboratory. The accelerator revs up electrons to near the speed of light, a process that generates X-rays that are a billion times more powerful than the kind used in hospitals.
The result was a video showing "pencil outlines" of the hair-thin breathing tubes.'

murasaki · 14/08/2026 23:17

Fuck knows. it was a general 40 minute test on asbestos management and risks and it oddly happened to be one of the questions.

Boiledbeetle · 14/08/2026 23:18

This thread is carnage! Just carnage! I'm not sure it's salvageable. Although the segway into beetle and worm breathing is fascinating.

murasaki · 14/08/2026 23:16

I think the particles are too big to get through the skin. And no lungs to inhale it.

I thought the asbestos mechanism was a freak occurrence of a single fibre going end into an alveoli then causing irritation leading to cancer much later. You can breathe in many particles and avoid problems but you could be hideously unlucky and breathe one the wrong way, and be afflicted. Hence why it’s considered so toxic/risky.

Still thinking worm skin might be vulnerable

If you haven't got any alveoli you're probably fine though. Like worms, and now apparently beetles!

This is very strange has anyone else ever seen posts and references to a poster just disappear?

The disgusting troll that hijacked multiple posts for several nights in a row's posts disappeared without a trace.

WerewolfOfLoudon · 14/08/2026 23:33

Boiledbeetle · 14/08/2026 23:02

We do all now seem to be having a go at either the poster above us or with ourself!

I did have a very WTF moment when I started reading, it definitely looked like you had all been taken over by pod people!

Iamnotalemming · 14/08/2026 23:43

What about snails and slugs? Do they have lungs? Caterpillers? I'm all agog.

Probably some cutted up pear....

I’ve laughed so hard at this.
DH has just said “what are you snorting at” - and I have no idea how to explain without going into years & years of mumsnetting.
Great great reply. I needed that laugh!

I can not believe that a thread that I foolish thought might just build up over time with links to organisations has been made so totally pointless but whoever the vanishing poster is / was, but somehow the need to raise an issue where there is already a thread, and then something totally irrelevant.

And whilst I suspect that had it just stuck to a simple and straight forward listing it might never have been more than a page at least it would have been a useful resource.

What a waste of time.

Ok.. if you ‘HTH’, how else should I interpret that comment?

I would interpret it as 'the nonsense' being dismantled, unless you think LGB people are nonsense.

I can understand why you feel like that, and I'm sorry your thread hasn't worked out the way you had planned/hoped.

I don't think it was a waste of time though. You still shared some great news!

It can still be a useful resource too, If people share more links to companies who follow suit (and the law), maybe you could quote them? That way anyone clicking "see all" on your OP will be able to easily find any links which have been shared in the thread?

TheywontletmehavethenameIwant · 15/08/2026 06:58

Thanks for the link, it's good to know things are going in the right direction, it's annoying to know it's all being 'quietly' put back to the right way of things though. Women 'quietly' lost their rights and now they're 'quietly' getting them back as if it never happened.

southofscotland · 14/08/2026 22:29

Up until fairly recently allowing gay people to get civil partnerships instead of allowing them to get married was considered ‘balanced human rights’ so forgive me my scepticism.

Up until very recently homosexuality was a crime, so same sex attracted people have gone from nothing to everything in 50 years. Contrast that to the centuries that women have been fighting for simple recognition that they were more than just Adam's rib and I think when it comes to 'victimology' women win.
The Rainbow is toxic, it's been thoroughly hijacked by the Gender Idiots, it's time for same sex attracted people to give it up. It needs to be consigned to the dustbin of history.

It got thoroughly riddled with posts from a troll. And then all the deletions make it impossible to read. A pity, yes. Sorry about the worms.

Seeing as it was just one post, maybe worth starting again?

I agree with your first para. But I like the old rainbow, just the new improved progress pride rainbow that carries all the issues.

It's got to go, all of the flags, the pride parades, the month long celebration, it's all got to go. SSA is now accepted as normal behaviour, the safest place for gay people and the best protection for the rights they've gained is by belonging as a normal part of society. The 'exceptionalism' that got the SSA to the position they are today is now a hindrance and a vulnerability. On mass people don't like it when 'others' get what they think as special treatment, the pride, the rainbow, it all sets SSA people apart from the rest. The old lags that I've spoken to all say they campaigned for acceptance, now they got it, they're just run of the mill humans like the rest of us. So it's time to give up the Rainbow.
