Why do some people view JK Rowling as transphobic?

1000 replies

Backwardsbinn · 13/08/2026 20:33

Where do people get the idea that JK Rowling is transphobic from? Where? I’m having this argument with an acquaintance who tells me she’s the most transphobic person on earth but cannot point to one single thing that she’s done or said that’s transphobic. Is this the widest held totally bullshit view ever?

I just want to add this ...

The argument 'women are unsafe in their own homes therefore we should make public spaces less safe for them' is as morally bankrupt as it comes.

Do you even hear yourself @Northernlightsss

Time was, they used to hide being MRAs.

Their overarching argument seems to be "JFK writes at length and thoughtfully about a range of subjects, often related to her own experience. In order to make her sound awful we have to take her words out of context, bastardise quotes, and remove all the empathy and compassion from them. We hope that people won't look more deeply"

Oh and some men feel uncomfortable in the gents and we should always pander to the wishes of men.

Or something

Hedgehogforshort · 19/08/2026 11:09

It all the same old same old. The benefit of this thread to me is staying abreast of the false allegations made against her.

IRL i am now well equipped to debunk any nonsense i might come accross about her from people with second hand opinions.

GreyskySexRealistsky · 19/08/2026 11:09

It's worth noting that if she hadn't said a word about JA - not one single tiny word - she would have then been heavily criticised for not saying anything about the case.

Backwardsbinn · 19/08/2026 11:17

It’s been eye opening to me too. An acquaintance is always saying how transphobic she it. Atleast now I have the confidence to ask for examples.

We’re nearing the end of this thread. Can we conclude that:

There is no evidence of JK Rowling saying or doing anything transphobic, and;
There is no evidence that Gender Identity actually exists.

I’ve asked for evidence of both and none has been presented.

100%

They've gone beyond that now. Basically incels.

You really cannot argue with crazy

SqueakyDinosaur · 19/08/2026 13:34

I'm sneakily quite impressed with Northernidiotsss' indefatigability, given that (I assume it's a) he has no logical arguments and no data. Well, obviously the magical TRA fairy data that we would all be able to find if we just googled it, despite the fact that lots of us do and it's not there.

Remember a few years back when the big put-down to GC people was "Educate yourselves"? Well, we did. We have. And here we are, with a whole raft of information and data and research that backs up our views.

ElenOfTheWays · 19/08/2026 13:36

Northernlightsss · 19/08/2026 07:51

No, you don't.

This is "I know you are, but what am I" level of argument from @Northernlightsss
2/10 must try harder. Take a time out.

I fully expected “violent and sexual criminals tend to be male” to be met with “your mum tends to be male”.

FlirtsWithRhinos · 19/08/2026 13:39

It must be hard to be TRA through. Really they only have two ways they can justify their demand to replace sex with gender, and both reflect very badly on them.

Either:
Deny sex as we experience and understand it exists ("it's all toooooo complicated to know what sex anyone really is") or deny it has meaningful consequences to people's lives especially to the risks and injustices experienced by people whose bodies are female("women commit crimes as well you know, and anyway women just naturally prefer to have less money and less power") and come across as an ivory tower fantastist who has lost touch with reality.

Or

Accept that sex exists and has consequences for people of female body, but claim the needs of male people have to take precedence over female, and come across as just an old fashioned misogynist with a pink and blue retread.

How do TRAs think they were conceived if sex doesn’t exist?

Absolutely. A rock and a hard place.

And seems like @Northernlightssshas opted for B.

MRA/Incel/Misogynist route.

As you say, tale as old as time.

This is so.

The issue that female people have rights that are based purely on their body’s needs and that a group of people’s belief about their subjective reality that is not based on material reality does not have priority is hard for some people to accept.

Hence we get the constant emotionally manipulative appeals and coercion.

ElenOfTheWays · 19/08/2026 13:46

Backwardsbinn · 19/08/2026 08:39

99% of sexual assaults on women are carried out by men. We don’t know who the good men or the bad men are, so all men are removed from women’s single sex spaces.

Can we agree that this is the right thing to do? I’d certainly hope so!

Bailey - sorry Northernlightsss will never agree with anything as long as he see an opening to be rude and condescending and call women stupid for being unable to follow his word salady bullshit through ridiculous twists and turns and backtracks.

Helleofabore · 19/08/2026 13:47

And the constant distraction of ‘case by case’, proportionality, and personality and behaviour traits.

It really is irrelevant to access of single sex provision what personality and behavioural traits someone has. It matters fuck all to that access.

And yet, how many times do we see those terms used to justify the inclusion of male people. Because if the language is destabilised, some people erroneously believe the concept of sex is destabilised.

The tactics that we see repeatedly just are dishonest at this point.

A lot like accusations about JK Rowling

How do TRAs think they were conceived if sex doesn’t exist?

Oh, there are minor genital differences sure, but they don't mean anything. No more significant than eye colour really.

Certainly not something important like a desire to wear spinny skirts.
