Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Are we a cult?

CyclingSam · 11/08/2026 11:01

I keep reading that sex realists, of which I am one, are a cult. Perhaps a genderist could be so kind as to explain what a cult is, and why we qualify. Sometimes one of us calls them a cult too. Who has a better case, hmmm?

I believe that makes you part of a cult.

😂

I think not having a word to describe adult human females is misogyny (internalised or otherwise)

You could use cis woman in the cases where it’s important to distinguish between a cis woman and a trans woman (eg medical settings). The rest of the time, I think woman is fine for us all. You are welcome to disagree, but there IS a usable option.

Yes. You can't get much more misogynistic than trying to eradicate the sex-class of women.

CohensDiamondTeeth · Today 13:06

Stonehenger · Today 12:47

Do think only men can be misogynist towards women? I think you’ve missed quite a lot of discourse around internalized misogyny etc there!

Do you know what internalized means?

I think women can be sexist towards other women sometimes. I don't think what Boiledbeetle said "don't get your knickers in a twist" was sexist either. It's a common phrase in the uk used by both men and women towards people of both sexes. Thanks to the link above it seems that the phrase was first seen in literature when it was used by one male character towards another male character.

It still not possible for women to be misogynistic (or the made up version, "transmisogynisitic") towards men, because misogyny is directed at women.

Boiled has already said she thought you were a man. She wasn't being misogynistic, nor was she intending to be, because she thought you were male so how could she a female, be misogynistic towards someone she thought was male?

Boiledbeetle · Today 13:06

Stonehenger · Today 13:00

A non sexist response would be something like ‘you’re being foolish’ then, or even ‘you’re an idiot’, or something much ruder!

As a women, I immediately recognise the type of dismissal in the use of ‘don’t get your knickers in a twist’ as gendered. It was sexist (and if @Boiledbeetle is a woman, suggests some kind of internalized misogyny).

I think most of you absolutely know it. You don’t have to ALL agree on everything!

You are attributing misogynistic meaning, that's all in your head and does not exist, to something I said. So no, no internalised misogyny on the knickers twisting comment.

nicepotoftea · Today 13:07

So is the argument that women don't need rights defined in law because a woman said to another woman 'don't get your knickers in a twist'?

spannasaurus · Today 13:07

Not misogynistic at all!

How do you know you are a 'women' if you think Fred is also a 'women'?

And just for the record, people have been deleted on here for calling people who think men can change into women an 'idiot' or anything ruder.

No need for cis. Just use woman and erm.... oh I don't know... man

The word for either men or women is surely just 'adult'?

Seems quite confusing.

Definitely leaves people who don't identify with a binary gender out in the cold.

No thanks!

Why should I give up a perfectly serviceable word that is commonly used to accurately describe me, and other women who are also adults, and instead take a new sub-set name which is inaccurate and imposed on me by men, so men can have use of the word "woman"?

Why does that benefit me, or any woman, the adult human female kind, or anyone who previously understood the common meaning of "woman" (such as those with English as a second language in a health care notification for example)?

Again I ask you, don't you think that's pretty sexist of you?

You would require women to "budge up" in service to men at a detriment to themselves. How is that feminism again?

That sounds incredibly transphobic! Weird how this is so often the case.

Idontknowmuch · Today 13:15

Stonehenger · Today 07:33

I don’t think it is appropriating the concept of misogyny. That still exists. It’s specifically about describing the intersection of transphobia and misogyny, and I find it helpful a helpful approach to thinking through the types of argument and behavior I see from gender people critical people (including on here) - for example, sexualisation / fetishisation of trans women in particular, with little attention paid to trans men.

Idontknowmuch · Today 13:18

Mocking female associated behavioural traits is misogyny because its an attempt at punishing/shaming/demeaning feminine behaviour which is designed to enforce gender policing. Its also misogyny to mock female associated behavioural traits because its applying double standards: Holding feminine presentation or behaviour to a harsher standard of scrutiny than equivalent masculine or neutral expressions is gender bias.

Men who mimic women mock female associated behavioural traits - they are the misogynists, get real mate.

I’m not joking. The accusation of ‘asking for it’ comes through loud and clear in your post, and that’s not part of my feminism.

If your "feminism" includes those born male I don't recognise it as feminism at all. Feminism is a movement by those born female which centres the needs and concerns of those born female, NOT those born male.

"Freda" Wallace is a man and will remain a man whatever he wears. He is also a deliberate exhibitionist, so yes, he was begging for photos to circulate. He revels in shocking people. Stop pandering to him.

It's so interesting how "the rules" changes depending on who it is saying it is on here.
"GC" says "don't get your knickers in a twist", it's not misogynistic or sexist.
You can bet though that if a "TRA" or "a man" read anyone who doesn't toe the usual line on here, usually women who get called a man for their opinions it certainly is seen as such.

Heggettypeg · Today 13:23

CohensDiamondTeeth · Today 09:22

I agree that no genital flashing occurred.

I still think what I said earlier is important. It wasn't immediately apparent that he wasn't flashing, a lot of people did think he was showing a bollock and the reaction from a lot of women would have been immediate, and made no better by later finding out it was actually his leg.

I also think of men like Greyson Perry, who in their own words have made it clear that they don't need to flash their actual genitals at women (or children, at the cancer hospital no less) to be displaying a fetish to a non-consenting public.

I think any woman who saw Fred sat like that could be forgiven for that heart stopping moment where you think you are being flashed. It's still a show of power over women, and a display of harmful male fetishistic behaviour IMO.

One poster up thread used a phrase like "plausible deniability." I think this might be a case of it.

Yet regardless of the ins and outs of whether 'knickers in a twist' is a sexist phrase, humans still can't change sex and women still need their rights to be protected in law, even if they identify as men.

Oh I missed this excellent example of DARVO earlier!

No, GC women are not displaying a sexualisation / fetishisation of trans identifying males.

Some trans identifying males are displaying their "sexualisation / fetishisation" of women, or just straight up themselves, though.

Women aren't the ones making penis collages of TiMs, or sharing photos of them in bondage gear, or whatever. Some TiMs are the ones who are doing that themselves.

I could almost believe @Stonehenger must just be very, very confused about what is really going on. Sadly, I just think it's deliberate DARVO.

Yes of course the power dynamics can change when a man directs certain phrases at a woman. Duh!

That is so offensive I can't even begin to be polite to you.

How dare you suggest that female people and men with feelings of wonanhood are in most cases more meaningfully "the same" than female people are with each other or with other men? Do you really value the female half of humanity so little you think a man's deepfelt desire to express himself in female-coded ways is pretty much the same as actually being us?

And you have the utter brass neck to accuse other people of being misogynistic!

CassOle · Today 13:27

I think that the 'upskirting' accusation is just another attempt to paint JKR as 'a bad person' with the intention of manipulating and shaming people who also know (and say) that human beings cannot change sex.

The threat is: "If you also won't pretend that people can change sex, it makes you a 'bad person' too by association."

Please also see the other accusations thrown at JKR, such as 'Holocaust denier', 'mouldy house', 'Epstein associate', et al.

An ad hominem by proxy.

Also, the word woman only refers to female people who are adults. 'Trans' is used in the same way that 'fake' and 'pretend' are.
