I only discovered this after having made two reports, and it’s Sunday, so I suppose I’ll find out tomorrow if they are going to follow through.

I'm sure someone will be along in a minute and ask why it has to be a thing in a relationship at all but given the case I’m following through it sort of has to be out there!

Yes I know. Again, all I have said is that sexual orientation is not what the OP is concerned about. It was in response to a comment where someone suggested it was.

In what world does the sexual orientation’ ‘straight’ denote ‘attracted to people of the same sex’?

Okay imagine if OP could tick a box that meant he didnt see only saw straight women, would that solve his issue with seeing trans women in his feed?

Or would that just mean that he only saw women (and trans women) who say they are straight?

I think the latter. He would see anyone who says they are a woman and are only attracted to men.

So who he would exclude is anyone who says they are a woman but are attracted to men and women (and perhaps other GIs, too). Some of those would be bisexual biological women. I don't think OP necessarily wants to omit this group (bi biological women) from his searches.

What would solve OP's problem is the ability to see only biological women. If the site wants to, it could achieve this by ensuring members record both their biological sex and their GI and to punish users who aren't true to their word. With this feature, OP would be able to filter out trans women which is what he wants to do.

I think that OP can date whoever he wants, and he can simply swipe any people he thinks are transgender. It's really not hard. I know that gender critical people have redefined sexuality as part of their protected belief - but Hinge hasn't.

So, swipe, or use another service.

OK, so its not transphobic if a transwoman claims he's straight (ie into men) and Hinge started to give him profiles for women because he can just scroll past and it doesn't matter that it invalidates his claim to be a straight woman - you'd say exactly the same right? No big deal, just scroll on by?

Lovelyview · 10/08/2026 17:52

Gretel346 · 10/08/2026 12:43

notably I’m reporting them for being male in the female category. Different.

Not according to Hinge.

Peak entitlement is expecting everyone else to view the world according to your opinion. Maybe put 'intolerant' in your bio if you want to be completely honest.

It's not intolerant to only want to date the opposite sex. To say anything different is rape culture.

Not to answer for the other person, but nobody is entitled to attention or attraction. It isn't discrimnatory to not be attracted to someone. Furthermore, nobody knows you scrolled on by so literally nobody can be hurt by it.

What someone could be hurt by is if you messaged them abuse for showing up in your feed. Many of my female friends have got that from men who have swiped positively on them just to send an abusive message about their presence on the site.

SingleSexSpacesInSchools · 10/08/2026 14:41

This is bullshit. they ARE MALE BY DEFINITION. ALL TRANS WOMEN ARE MALE

It's NOT OK to put MEN in my dating queue when I said women only!!

But I thought you couldn't tell the difference! How can you possibly be reporting them as male when they look the same as (if not better) than biological women???

Lexibletheflexible · 10/08/2026 17:56

I think he said he did make such reports in the OP but he might not mean he reported their profile, just that he made a general complaint/suggestion.

Lexibletheflexible · 10/08/2026 17:14

Sure.. but again, it isnt about sexual orientation, is it? It is about trans women. You don't care if the trans woman says they are straight or bi. And you havent reported to care about whether women are straight or not. So it isn't about their sexual orientation, you just dont want trans women to show up in your searches for available women.

of course it’s about sexual orientation-the OP’s

he is straight. He doesn’t want to be paired up with men, even if said fellas enjoy role playing as women

I’m a bit puzzled about why that’s not obvious to you

I can’t imagine what benefit there is for the app not to have that feature tbh. Seems like it would save a lot of hassle all round.

Hinge treats trans women as women. So, if you are interested in women, sometimes trans women will appear as suggestions. If you don't like that, leave the app or just scroll by. I'm sure it's irritating for transphobes, but those are the choices.

Your hypothetical app treats trans women as men. Yes, it would be transphobic, but we are talking about a transphobic app which any sensible transgender person wouldn't join. The solution would be for the trans women to either leave the app or accept this weird, transphobic set up where neither the people being swiped, nor the ones doing the matching would be happy.

You might do some reflection on why there are no apps like this.

Well yes

it can’t be nice for Fred in his chiffon blouse to find himself on a date with a man who just isn’t interested

much better all round to just be honest I’d have thought.

Because he hasn't reported that he cares about the sexual orientation of his potential matches. He just wants them to be biological women. He doesnt need to filter out bi women. He wants to filter out trans women. I dont get why this is difficult to understand.

Given that, according to what polling there is, only a tiny percentage of men are interested sexually in transwomen, surely it would be in everybody’s interest if users could specify whether they are interested in transwoen (or indeed transmen). Save a lot of wasted time.

I don't think it's laws so much as social attitudes that have dictated their decisions on this. I don't think they are forced to so much as their core membership not wanting that sort of distinction.

Where ‘transphobe’ = person who won’t sublimate their sexual boundaries to make a person who likes to role play as a member of the opposite sex feel happy

you really don’t know how creepy your views are , do you?

HIS orientation is straight

ergo it’s no good a dating app showing him men, even ones in frocks

are you quite alright?

AimsAndObjectives · 10/08/2026 18:06

Tabasco007 · 10/08/2026 17:08

Just to add, I got banned from Hinge, appealed it, and lost, all because, I was chatting to someone, in a private chat, and they asked what my most controversial thought was. I said that I didn’t think men that say they are women, should be allowed to compete in women’s sport, I then said, it wasn’t a controversial thought a few years ago. I said it just like that, no nastiness, woke up the next day and my profile had been deleted, appealed, but they upheaved the ban. They also own most of the other dating sites, e harmony, match, etc, so I was effectively banned from them all. Haha, maybe I should date the OP 😂😂. What I found most upsetting was the person I was talking to was that snide, disagree with me all you like, unmatch me, but to get me banned seemed so mean spirited!

That sounds like discrimination on grounds of the protected characteristic of belief.

I think there are quite a few men sexually interested in trans women. Romantically interested is a different question. Isn't that type of porn one of the most searched? That would take both people interested in being the TW as well as people interested in having sex with TW to produce those kimds of stats

So creepy

’here are my boundaries about who I want to date. This app not respecting them is a bit upsetting’

’you seem a bit hysterical’

He’s a big boy and can choose not swipe on people he doesn’t want to match with like everyone else.

It's not transphobic for a heterosexual man to not want to date a trans identified man. The fact that you even went there means you have no understanding of boundaries. You are the same as trans identified men who try to date lesbians. Trying to violate other people's sexual boundaries and accuse them of 'transphobia' for not wanting to date a different sex from the one they are attracted to is rape culture. It is coercive and very, very wrong.

Well Hinge claims to be about long term relationships. Even if it weren’t. There would be nothing compelling straight men to exclude transwomen. I’m sure no transwoman would want to be ‘dated under false pretences’ anyway.

Edited to repeat. What polling there is suggests the percentage of straight men sexually interested in transwomen is tiny.
