I only discovered this after having made two reports, and it’s Sunday, so I suppose I’ll find out tomorrow if they are going to follow through.

I'm sure someone will be along in a minute and ask why it has to be a thing in a relationship at all but given the case I’m following through it sort of has to be out there!

When he signed up, he accepted their terms and conditions. It's a private company offering a service. They do not have to be transphobic. If transphobia was commercially successful, they'd set up a gender critical dating app. I'm sure there is a space in the market for one.

He thinks he has found a loophole in "reporting trans women" by reporting them as male. It's not a loophole.

Pick another company. If you can't find one, either don't pick people you think are trans, or go to a super-fun gender critical meet and greet.

A dating app that you're not allowed to specify your sexual orientation?

I can positively hear the lawyers rubbing their hands together.

Yeah, you're not allowed to be optionally discriminatory.

This dating site recognises that trans women are women. If you don't believe that, this is not the dating site for you. You are not going to change their mind by throwing a hissy fit and typing in all caps. I'm honestly surprised you haven't been kicked off already.

Which as we know isn’t even the position that many ‘allies’ take.

Who remembers “Transwomen are women, except for dating purposes”?

You can absolutely have a dating app for gender critical people, or Christians for example and specify your sexual orientation. Why on earth would you not be able to?

You think its transphobic for a straight man not to want to date males?! Hilarious. Why do you think we owe it to trans people to respect their "gender identity", when you and Hinge cant even respect someone's sexuality? One way street is it?

Well chick, as asked above, you understand that when Fred dons his chiffon blouse and eye shadow it doesn’t change his sex, right? Fred’s still a man. Straight men don’t want to sleep with Fred, no matter how spinny his skirt is.

so if a straight man joins a dating app, specifies that he’s straight and then finds himself paired up with Fred, it does look a bit ‘conversion therapy’

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 10/08/2026 17:01

To be super clear, if a man specifies his sexual orientation as straight and then gets paired up with a load of men, he’s got a legitimate cause for complaint

They are literally male. the very definition of "trans woman" is male - who identifies as a woman - you could not ever be a female who identified as a woman, and be a "trans woman" - it's the very definition of the word.

I look forward to them trying and me suing the shit out of them for doing so.

Do.you think you're going to sue a dating site because they won't use a feature you want? That feature being to distinguish trans women and potentially exclude them from your searches?,

He can specify his sexual orientation. This has nothing to do with sexual orientation! It's to do with trans people being easily identified and therefore easily excluded from his searches for available women.

Tabasco007 · 10/08/2026 17:08

Just to add, I got banned from Hinge, appealed it, and lost, all because, I was chatting to someone, in a private chat, and they asked what my most controversial thought was. I said that I didn’t think men that say they are women, should be allowed to compete in women’s sport, I then said, it wasn’t a controversial thought a few years ago. I said it just like that, no nastiness, woke up the next day and my profile had been deleted, appealed, but they upheaved the ban. They also own most of the other dating sites, e harmony, match, etc, so I was effectively banned from them all. Haha, maybe I should date the OP 😂😂. What I found most upsetting was the person I was talking to was that snide, disagree with me all you like, unmatch me, but to get me banned seemed so mean spirited!

All you'd have to do is ask users what sex they were declared at birth and ban any user who is found to lie about that. You could then also omit the option to declare any other identity in relation to sex/gender.

I'm surprised he hasn't slipped into anyone's DMs or vice versa tbh. Seems like a great place for like-minded singles to meet

well they aren't available women are they - they are available men - which I have heard are not in short supply at all!

But they made it clear they would do that to users who attempt to report profiles who are trans just for showing up in your searches. What grounds would you have?

Do you realise that you have just called me a name and that I will have to report another of your posts where you attack women who challenge you?

Sure.. but again, it isnt about sexual orientation, is it? It is about trans women. You don't care if the trans woman says they are straight or bi. And you havent reported to care about whether women are straight or not. So it isn't about their sexual orientation, you just dont want trans women to show up in your searches for available women.

Why would they if not interested in a relationship with them?

Isn’t sexual orientation, by definition, based on sex?

ALovelyPinkUnicorn · 10/08/2026 17:21

That's irrelevant.

I can understand why anyone might want to specifically filter their search to people they actually want to date. Apps don't let you though.

I think that OP can date whoever he wants, and he can simply swipe any people he thinks are transgender. It's really not hard. I know that gender critical people have redefined sexuality as part of their protected belief - but Hinge hasn't.

So, swipe, or use another service.

Sure, but OP hasn't said that bisexual women are also people he doesnt want to see. So his issue is not that he wants to filter out bisexual people and cannot. His issue is that he cannot filter out trans women.

A bisexual woman is still a woman, to whom he may be attracted and may be attracted to him. Presumably he’s not seeing transwomen who claim to be lesbians. Or gay men. (I’ve no idea, this really isn’t my area).

Yes I know. Again, all I have said is that sexual orientation is not what the OP is concerned about. It was in response to a comment where someone suggested it was.
