I only discovered this after having made two reports, and it’s Sunday, so I suppose I’ll find out tomorrow if they are going to follow through.

I'm sure someone will be along in a minute and ask why it has to be a thing in a relationship at all but given the case I’m following through it sort of has to be out there!

The app can include or not include any filter they want. If they want users to filter by gender that is their choice.

I think the real issue here is that’s it’s inclusive for trans people.

I don’t think anyone has explained why allowing to filter by sex isn’t inclusive of transpeople. In what sense are they excluded?

Because in this context gender is a much more useful filter. If the only option was sex, then trans gender women should show for users that want to date men i.e straight women or gay men, and see how either of those groups would be looking for a trans woman.

It doesn't need to be the only option. I'm not sure that was the suggestion. If the app allowed users to filter by both sex and gender, how would that exclude transpeople?

I always feel that the dating apps are by companies intending social engineering by attempting to partner people together who wouldn't do so naturally IRL.

Grindr, which in response to the murder of George Floyd removed their racial filter (I doubt George Floyd cared about racial discrimination on gay hookup apps), and there are still complaints today about it. Users are now specifying racial preferences in their profiles, so it's ended up being more outwardly racial.

It seems like Grindr are attempting to force users into interracial/mixed religious relationships, and people want to force trans people onto heterosexual users of Hinge.

People seem very scared that the filter will be used to filter out trans people, and so don't want to give users the choice.

I’m not sure why they would be scared. According to @Lexibletheflexible the world is awash with straight men gagging to date transwomen. 3 for every 1 who doesn’t want to, apparently. The app is full of trans inclusive ‘folks’. Not like the boring middle class marrieds, or whatever the phrase was. They wouldn’t filter out potential partners because they’re trans would they?

Absolute mystery what the objection is.

Because it's core userbase see trans people as their chosen gender and they want to cater to people who will actually use the app

This is pure fantasy. Over 90% of transwomen still have their cock & balls -are you really saying straight men & lesbians don't care about that? There'll also be a large proportion of straight men, lesbians & bisexuals who have no interest in a man with an artificial vagina.

This is obviously far more relevant to the vast majority of users than age and weight filters etc.

Large numbers of straight and bi people date trans people. Loads of people won't enter a space they think is prejudice towards trans people despite not being trans. The app is catering to its user base who wants trans people on the app.

By the way, most of these apps do allow users to identify as trans women or men or whatever else. They just aren't made to so some will just tick woman or man.

Lexibletheflexible · 12/08/2026 06:53

murasaki · 11/08/2026 17:42

For the transwomen, sure. But what about the men who are looking for a relationship?

Surely transpeople would be best served a a dating app dedicated to people who actually wanted to date them longer term. Have any if them bothered to set one up, or is it all about glomming onto more mainstream apps amd then being disappointed with the outcomes?

They do find people who want to date them on the existing apps. Why do they need to be completely removed from the app? People who don't want to date them can scroll past and ask anyone they are unsure about before proceeding to a meet.

One to which Lexi (who said “I'd never say what type of men I mean though as it is hurtful and unnecessary.”, and therefore we conclude she considers herself kind) has not responded.

I was at the hospital with my dying relative after I finished work. It's where I've been a few nights a week for weeks now.

Lexibletheflexible · 12/08/2026 06:58

murasaki · 11/08/2026 16:34

🤣🤣🤣

Even Lexible must agree that this is what they are claiming and that it sounds incredibly unlikely.

No i said for every straight man like OP who wants trans people off of the site, there are 3 men who are fine with their presence there and yes, maybe want them there as potential matches. That is why your wishes to exclude trans people will be ignored snd they'd rather lose your business than the many more people who want trans people to use the site as they see fit.

Ooh, nice ageist, sexist classist side swipe there.

So what you are really saying is all the cool young people will have sex with anyone because they are, like, so open and kind and accepting, and none of them are heterosexual, they are all 100% queer/pansexual/bisexual and just the best!!

But all the nasty pearl clutching, saggy titted middle aged women on MN are a bunch of uptight meanies who don’t like sex and are all married anyway. And some are even lesbians who won’t sleep with people with a penis!

Is that what you meant all along when you were wanting on about the “app user base” all being 100% happy with having no filter for sex?

Because they dont spend money on the app.

Lexibletheflexible · 12/08/2026 07:02

So if you don’t think it’s transphobic, what makes you think others will? What reason do you believe they would think that? What makes you think you have an insight into what others consider transphobic?

Edited

What they'd find transphobic is forcing trans people to use a label that identifies them as such or making them use a sex based label.

Lexibletheflexible · 12/08/2026 07:09

MyAmpleSheep · 11/08/2026 15:59

But you don’t openly share your preferences on a dating site if there’s a filter: that’s the whole point. You don’t need openly to say “I’m looking for men under 40” openly in your profile because by setting a private preference the men over 40 aren’t shown to you.

The inability privately to express the preference not to meet trans-identifying people forces you to express it openly.

If you really want to avoid hurting other people’s feelings, you’d approve of the trans filter.

If you don’t want a trans filter, then it’s just a public purity test that you’re approving.

Edited

No it doesn't. You just scroll past or stop engaging with people when you find out they don't meet your criteria. But that takes reading profiles. If you are a man and want just mass like any woman near you, then this seems annoying because you'd have to actually click on several profiles and read what the women had to say about themselves.

Men don't usually read profiles until there has been mutual interest. They just swipe right on every woman that doesn't repulse them by the way they look. When the woman "likes" them back, they may have a quick glance at her profile. Usually they just start asking questions they could have had answered from the profile.

This is why men often get so annoyed by the lack of filters that allows him to find the women he most wants quickly.

I don't if you've ever heard of Fetlife, but on there, you cannot search users by role or sex or gender. You can see people by location and that's it. It gets guys so angry that they can't find all the "dominant women in Essex" or "submissive trans women in Hull". But they don't want people (mostly men) to be able to pull up lists of women and start mass messaging them.

So no filters, beyond location, on any sites? Why filter for some things and not others? What is different about ‘sex’?

When has the OP said he wants trans people off the site? He said he wants to only see biological women. That's a perfectly reasonable thing to require of a dating app. And you're making assumptions about the OP - his age and that he will mass like profiles without reading them. In fact you're assuming all men mass like profiles without reading them. But regardless, users of a dating app ought to be able to filter by SEX and/or gender.

As a woman I would also like to filter for biological men. I don't wish to exclude anyone from the site, just exclude them from the profiles shown to me. Just as I want to exclude smokers and men under 40.

You'd rather a 'trans person' walks into a dangerous situation than 'identifies themselves as such' thereby not allowing the person they are meeting to make their own decision about who they meet up with?

So you just want 'trans people' to be able to lie?

So men, at least, would like more filters. Why not one for sex then? That overwhelming majority of men that you claim are happy to hook up with transwomen will still see them, and the users that don’t want to see them won’t. All users happy.

Shedmistress · 12/08/2026 08:06

What straight men want is the ability to filter out the women with cocks, lets be honest.

One easy way is to ask for the sex of the person. Really fucking obvious.

Even if the 'trans allies' don't care about 'trans women' getting into situations that could end their lives it seems the evil TERFs do. Weird.

I dudnt say 75% of straight men. Not every straight man (for clarity, straight and not sexually interested in TW) is like the OP and has a problem with trans women being in his feed enough to report them.

The reason why dating apps don't cater entirely for the wants of the male sex is because they are often display frightening levels of entitlement and their wants are indicative of their problematic mindset.

Such as wanting to produce a list of women they'd fuck so they can easily mass "like" them without making a mistake and ending up connecting with someone you consider unfuckable.
