You seem to have missed that the court decided that setting their own rules regarding natal sex is exactly what they couldn't do. And the founder lost a lot of money in legal fees.

Okay I think you don't understand that many apps use filters not as exclusion criteria but to create an algorithm. You need to look at the specific app to see how it works. Tinder works that way.

its just a filter. You set your criteria. They set theirs. The back end matches people against those criteria, mine and theirs, then it shows me a list of those matches, generally stacked with the more attractive profiles to be served when you first look at the feed.

I didnt answer the question because I dont own a site which lacks the ability to filter by biological sex. I'd personally install that feature if I made an app because I think it's important for long term matches and I'd want people to use the app for more than hook ups.

I'm just telling you how the thing works. I am also certain that if you continue to swipe left on women you don't want to match with, you'll see fewer women like those women and your algorithm will improve to be more like you want.

The app HER has been banning women for years if they specify female sex only.

No, I'm not wrong. The exact mechanism of the filters is site specific but work as prefereces that adjust an algorithm vs total exclusion criteria. The user then personalises their algorithm by interacting with the site.

This is particularly the case on sites where subscription promises to somehow "boost" your profile. It means that you slip through the preferences to appear in more algorithms.

for most criteria on Hinge there is a checkbox you can check if you want to be shown people outside that filter. It’s unchecked by default.

The people you are seeing and don't want to see are checking the "woman" box, though, aren't they? So that is why they show up when you want to see women. So again, that is because the site have decided to do what their membership are most happy with.

Find a dating site that is more aligned with what you want or create one since you know so much.

But it also doesn't let you say "nothing outside this" does it? And the whole thing is called "dating preferences". That is how they get around using your filters as algorithm toggles vs exclusion criteria. No app (these days) 100% uses it to exclude every user of that type until you interact with the algorithm.

It's HIS sexual orientation that is pivotal. I have no idea if he wants to date a bisexual woman. The point is he doesn't want to date any men. Because he's not gay.

Everyone on the planet has a sexual orientation. It's completely bonkers to have an app designed for people to hook up which doesn't accommodate it.

That's irrelevant though if the app, like most apps, doesn't require users to record and prove their biological sex. So what he has to do is look through his matches and see what one's are actually compatible with him.

You may have addressed this @Lexibletheflexible but, having familiarised yourself with the Giggle case, is it still your contention that there is only a fuss about an app’s position on say transgender people if a “majority of their users” are against it.

The thing is, I can't really find users of the app publicly supporting the owner. So it seems like the owner was kind of on their own in wanting to exclude trans women from their app.

In my search about the app, I came across this old thread here. I read the 1st few posts.
