The Niederegger cafe looks awesome! I treat myself to their marzipan hot chocolate sachets in Lakeland at Christmas, but the opportunity to have a proper marzipan hot chocolate in situ is going on the bucket list. Youngest is off to uni seen so DH and I are already planning our adventures.

The bars yes maybe, but the wafer rounds are lovely. And do not I repeat do NOT taste of coconut and are not oily.

All this Tunnocks talk has transported me to a sandy beach in Fife notable for what appeared to be a recent volcanic cone, a smell of much more recent and abundant pee and the OU summer school packed lunch. They did Tunnocks a good turn by introducing us southerners to caramel wafers. "What's this? May as well try it. since it's free." and which I have since eaten in abundance until the diagnosis of diabetes.

Biscuit and cake chat - and also soup recipes - have been a feature of FWR for many years, although mostly not preserved and therefore won’t have been scraped. Back in the day when it was oldfashioned MRAs who’d darken our doors late at night ‘just asking questions’, their threads would generally turn to recipes but be deleted in the morning when the mods showed up.

If the initial posts are lurking in an archive somewhere then maybe Aston could use them to build an MRA-troll detector and save the mods the trouble.

I think either Whittards or Hotel Chocolate do marzipan hot chocolate. Possibly both of them do.

If you have a Velvitiser (a cheap equivalent or a pan and a whisk) you can turn anything that melts into 'hot chocolate'. I got bored with a box of Guerlain praline shellfish things and used a few to make hot chocolate. Been meaning to do the same with maltezers.

Frankly marzipan, celery and root beer are the work of the devil. Do not get me started on Dr Pepper. It is genuinely evil.

I'm with you on root beer and celery, but i do love a bit of marzipan. My dad always used to over buy for icing the Xmas cake, and divide the remainder for his marzipan loving daughters. We actually are him weigh all 3 balls of the good stuff to make sure he was being fair.

Raw celery is vile, but it’s an essential component of soffrito/mirepoix. As with onions and garlic, cooking transforms from offensive to delicious.

Celery is lovely! Bit of good cheese, some celery, grapes and some crackers - perfect.

Umm just dropping this here, Neideregger make a marzipan liqueur, (which is also amazing in hot chocolate) not sure if you can get in the UK Lűbeck is a beautiful city to visit, but I didn’t think the Neideregger cafe was that amazing sadly, although the window displays of what you can make out of marzipan were impressive.

@ErrolTheDragon I also have to agree with you. My DH (the Walrus) does cook celery and put it in with the roast veg and I can't taste it. I assume it enhances the meal, but everything he makes is bloody delicious, with extra deliciousness because I don't have to lift a finger - I have no idea how our new convection hob works.

But the rest of you - wrong.

Fortunately I am a sensible lion who is happy to be friends with people who enjoy foodstuffs I don't, so it won't affect my love for you all.
