An unfeasibly well-preserved man with lots of tattoos 😂

And windswept but surprisingly well-kept hair.

I think it was deliberate.

I assure you it wasn’t, but it doesn’t mean I can’t do something with it 😉

Oh, I thought you meant Betjeman!
Confused.

I've been in and out all day and only had time for quick skim reads of the posts, so I sat in the garden earlier with a cup of coffee to go through them properly. It seems that our canine and feline friends are going into business so that 'this time next year we'll all be millionaires'.... or not.

I think I startled my neighbours laughing out loud at the 'what dogs love' posts. I know muddy water came out as a forerunner but I think any kind of water will do. It reminded me of a video some friends sent me from a holiday in France a couple of years ago. They were woken up at 5 a.m. and could hear water splashing. They looked out to find that their boisterous 14 month old golden retriever had escaped through a partially open window and was in the pool having a grand old time with the water toys!

Gosie's adventures are becoming more and more intriguing. I'm glad she managed to get back to the Bluestocking for some R&R and to enlist the help of her friends, both human and gerbil.

P.S. Has anyone seen the camels? They were last heard of heading for Durham.....

EdithStourton · 30/07/2026 19:32

Batshit is always in two minds about water. She likes a nice paddle, but is less keen on a wet undercarriage.

She jumped up onto a straw bale today. Leapt up, straight off the other side. No excuses: she'd already been up on 3 or 4, so she knows how big they are, even if she'd forgotten since last year.

Kitty was briefly interested but it all sounds too much like hard work when she can make a bit of extra cash for minimal effort.

Brains has realised that becoming a business magnate will cut in on sunbathing time. She's out.

Damson, they went on pilgrimage to the shrine of St Cuthbert, and were there at the same time as Gosie. Where they have got to since, I do not know. Possibly Lindisfarne.

Looks like it's cloudy in Northumberland currently?

Camelford isn't on the A1 it's on the A39😁

The country house near me is said to have a connection with St Cuthbert. There had been a Benedictine priory on the site, supposedly being one of the places where the bones of the saint were brought in the 9th Century by the surviving monks from Lindisfarne, to keep them safe following the Viking invasion. After Henry VIII dissolved the monasteries, the land was sold and became the seat of a local family. There is still a St Cuthbert's Church in the town, the third of its name, although the current one is 19th Century.

The camels seem to be making the most of their trip! 😁

EdithStourton · 30/07/2026 20:05

Carmela sent me a text.
Also, she says they did Camelford a few years ago.

Confused.

That the name of the tune of the church’s one foundation is called Aurelia. It’s a coincidence that I used that name for the Project, but now I know about it, I can probably use it.

What happened to his bones??

Magpiecomplex · 30/07/2026 20:30

They've been sampling the local nightlife too.

I don't think I've ever seen Carmela smile before! She should take more holidays. Might save her being so grumpy all the time with the rest of us!

ed missed a word

Chickadeeinme · 30/07/2026 20:31

I think the camels have been misled if they think that causeway leads to Lindisfarne. Looks more like Mont St Michel to me. But I hope they're enjoying France.

AngleofRepose · 30/07/2026 20:29

What happened to his bones??

I think they ended up in Durham Cathedral.

He is very important to camels, what with his name beginning with a C. Hence the pilgrimage.

They're now on their way to the Orkneys.

Tell them not to go into the Darlington pub...the Masons Arms is much better.

What happened to his bones??

They spent many years being moved between the more remote parts of the north of England to keep them safe and when the Vikings finally retreated, they were taken back to Durham, where a shrine was created in the cathedral.

Is there only one pub in Darlington?

ErrolTheDragon · 31/07/2026 00:16

I’m so late catching up this evening that it’s technically tomorrow.Shock

Colin is sulking because if you’re going to advertise sausages why do you want an Afghan hound when you’ve got him available.

I hope the camels are having safe travels and avoiding steep roads with sharp corners….they’re unsuitable for caravans.

Chickadeeinme · 31/07/2026 03:57

Ba-dum-tish!
