Robin Ince resigns from The Infinite Monkey Cage

The odious Robin Ince has resigned from The Infinite Monkey Cage because of his trans views. He says he would have been pushed if he didn’t jump. Neither he nor the show will be much missed, both being self absorbed and pompous. But does this mean the tide is finally turning at the BBC?

I thought he already had resigned?

Good god, falling on his sword for the transes. What a dramatic hero.

It did seem hypocritical of him to work on a show that was about scientific facts and I always wondered how he squared it in his mind.

He was smug twat though.

Can't remember whether it was actually the Infinite Monkey Cage or a previous iteration of this chatty/comedy/science show, but there was a long long period when it was blokes only, and so smug and systematic in its unconscious refusal to notice that there was such a thing as female scientists that it felt very actively sexist.

I think it is quite possible that Ince's stance on the trans issue is strongly related to that 'bloke bubble' aspect of his sexism.

For some men, a smug insistence on their rationalism (for example espousing a particular form of atheism that preens itself on its scientism) is very bound up in ultra-blokish sexism. These men see themselves as progressive and anti-sexist so need to find ways of making their sexism acceptable to their self-image.

He posted this two days ago with a self-pitying post about how he was betrayed.

Yes, that was him mulling over something that had happened a while ago.

What does he actually do since his resignation? Probably just trying to remind people that he is still around.

Aw bless. Another of those all “jolly nice chaps together showing off our intellectual prowess” programmes the bbc does so well. The other month I had to contact Poetry Please because it appeared that unfortunately not a single token woman writer or poet was available to help to celebrate their 50 th PP anniversary. It was slightly unfortunate that it was broadcast from the Hay Festival where presumably many of the UKs finest female writers and poets were congregated.

Though maybe none of them like Roger McGough either so declined the invitation, always a possibility.

They never got back to me btw.

Not that Ince was ever there to show off his ‘intellectual prowess’ - he was more the (supposedly) comedic ‘man in the street’ asking dumb questions wasn’t he? I wouldn’t have wanted a woman in that role!

Some of the other science programs, In Our Time etc aren’t too bad with the balance of the sexes nowadays.

Anyway, Ince going is old non-news.

That’s a dangerous thing to do. Apparently Mia Farrow has fallen foul of the Alphabet by posting a twix or whatever they are called these days, giving her support to trans people but unfortunately using the forbidden words “identifying as”. Thus causing teeth grinding, wailing and chesticle beating because they don’t “identify as ” , they “are”. Which apparently means poor Mia is a card carrying trans denying TERF and should be shunned.

It looks as though he resigned last September but they have just finished recording the latest series.

I wonder if they will continue with the format. I don't think it will be a great loss if they try something new.

Interesting to learn the BBC are meeting with people and telling them the views they express are problematic. I wonder who else has had the chat - David Tennant for example.

I hope Tennant has had the chat. He has a lot of mentally unstable followers who worship him. It's atrocious that he said he wished Kemi Badenoch didn't exist.

I thought 'identifying as' was the thing to say too. When did that change? Not that I'm an expert on this deluded nonsense.

I don't think he is particularly associated with the BBC. A lot of his recent work has been for ITV.

He has done a bit of presenting, but most of his work has been as an actor, and I don't think that carries the same responsibility of representing a broadcaster.

Will he ever stop blathering on about what a heartbroken martyr he is? He quit ten months ago.

I’d never heard of him must admit but having googled him I get Billy Bragg vibes. He’s never grown out of his early 90s band T-shirt look.
