Robin Ince resigns from The Infinite Monkey Cage

The odious Robin Ince has resigned from The Infinite Monkey Cage because of his trans views. He says he would have been pushed if he didn’t jump. Neither he nor the show will be much missed, both being self absorbed and pompous. But does this mean the tide is finally turning at the BBC?

Who cares if he supports Trans people... it doesn't mean he also has to be misogynistic and medically unethical. Right?

I think of Sinead's words, "the job of an artist is to be themselves at any cost".

He sounds insufferable. I suspect sighs of relief from everyone who knows they won't have to work with him again.

Urgh can't stand this kind of pontificating drama llama shite. He should never have been on a science show at all if he has such a poor understanding of science as to think TWA actually W and if he wants to promulgate ant-science, sexist and homophobic genderist opinions. It's possible to support the reasonable and balanced rights of trans-identifying people within a framework that actually makes sense and involves reality.

The thing I never understood about TIMC is that Brian Cox is actually a scientifically minded person and also is actually funny. How could he stand working with Ince? And yes about the sexist boy's club vibe - this is the kind of show I should love on paper but although I have often listened to it or heard bits, the smugness has always annoyed me. When they do have female guests there's often a lot of giggly self-deprecation and it feels like that's what they look for.

Whereas The Life Scientific, presented by a man, treats women as equally interesting, varied, able to express themselves in their own ways, highlights the wide range of scientific careers of both sexes, never has that patrician/smug vibe. So it can be done.

And can you imagine wanting to hire anyone who bleats so sourly about a previous client? I would be fully put off. I hope his family is financially secure seeing as he's queered (ha!) his own pitch so self-indulgently.

I dunno. He seems quite far up his own sphincter. It could be quite a different smell.

I was on there upset his tour sales were going v badly. I think there may be an element he resigned nearly a year ago with other things planned, including this tour, which hasn’t gone well. If he’s not going to get bbc work, and he’s a bit too controversial for current climates for other channels to pick him up, he’s going to struggle. Especially as he’s not built a big fan base. I do think he’s another man who needed a better manager /sensible advice, I bet if he realised he was throwing away his full career for this ideology he’s not even part of, he might have paused, but I bet he hadn’t realised the tide had turned and he was in practice throwing away everything for someone else’s fight.

Just reminding everyone that he's a brave and true little soldier for the cause. Lest we forget his sacrifice

Maybe he got bookings because the booker thinks "well I don't like him much but other people seem to." And they've realised that no, it's not just them, actually no one else likes him much either.

I stopped listened to it ages ago because I wanted science not opinions.

I've never listened to the program and know nothing about Robin Ince, but the line "I felt I couldn't pamper myself with the luxury of silence." is hilarious 😂

But tide has turned, not just being pro trans but very vocal about it, including criticising others for not being ideologically pure is now thankfully a bit controversial. Which could be ignored if you are very talented and popular, but well, he’s not. He’s the sort of person who had a good bbc radio comedy career. The sort of person you are expecting to pop up on QI and “Have I got news for you” etc. amusing rather than proper funny.

But hes taken this odd stand, and I think not quite realised until it was too late he’s taken a stand that really will cause his income stream to dry up. And the trans community seem to demand other people be allies to them, yet the loyalty is one way and no they aren’t feeling compelled to buy tickets to his shows.

It will be interesting to see what he does next. I wouldn’t be surprised if other lefty cosy comedians are watching this carefully. I bet their managers certainly are.

The whole thing is reaching peak ridiculousness. We can't be far from them claiming TW are the only true women and we're some sort of 3rd category 😂
