Croeso/Welcome to the Bluestocking Women's Pub, with our lovely gerbil staff, the icy Mojito foot-bath for those of you fed up with the heat, a Quilting/Craft Nook, lots of yummy food and drink with zero calories, gluten, or allergens, the Gerbil World Cup, and a brand new magic pool that becomes a babbling brook whenever you want it to!

Come on in! All women welcome! (Men welcome at The Staunch Ally pub down the road aways)

(security provided by the capybaras, lovely folk, but try not to get in their way)

(oh, and don't mention triangles, please. Gubbins gets very overexcited)

(did we mention the Gerbil World Cup?)

OK.

I just made her up. She may be a figment of my fevered imagination.

She may be Gosie’s hidden opponent.

FuzzyPuffling · 22/07/2026 19:43

She might be a friend, or an adversary, of Angry Badger.

ErrolTheDragon · 22/07/2026 19:47

Idk about bindweed seeds, but I do get squirrels who dig out bulbs given the chance, and ‘plant’ acorns and on occasion partially devoured fatballs in my pots.

I planted crocuses when I moved here, but I haven't seen any sign of them since. I have seen quite a few squirrels though🤔

For those with an ever increasing TBR pile (same here!), Umberto Eco makes a good argument.

Also, can we invite Jimothy the raccoon for a visit? I know he's male so he can't stay, but he looks adorable and I think would fit in well.

Jimothy the Raccoon looks as though he would do well on Strictly Come Dancing.

Evil Squirrel made me laugh, Fuzzy 😂
Remember there was a 'trope' on a thread somewhere that blamed ev-er-y-thing on JKR, given that she is so evil?
So - milk going off, Crystal Palace losing at home, all flat tyres, eating an entire packet of biscuits, missing the bus - everything was her fault.

So I reckon JKR has trained up the Evil Squirrel to do evil things, like making Myrtle a day early for her event, planting bindweed in Errol's pieris, while JKR herself is away on her yacht.

Because, as any TRA will tell you, there is no end to her evilness😁

Jimothy looks like he's tiptoeing apologetically [cos he's a decent chap] through the Bluestocking Garden, saying
'Sorreee ladies, just passing through, not stopping, I'll be on my way, sorrree'😃

Perfect!!

I think JKR DID make me early for my event! And even though this now means I can wash my hair in readiness (it is just about suitable for public exposure), it doesn't mean she gets off scot-free.

Gosie's adversary is making herself noticeable.

A new adventure is brewing...

Ohh nooo @MyrtleLion to getting the wrong date, what a pain!

What does hagadapa (?sp) mean, I've been meaning to ask as I clearly missed some important chat?

It means Have As Good A Day As Possible All, I think.

Perhaps at this hour we should wish each other HAGANAPA?

AsWithGlad · 22/07/2026 23:20

HAGANAPA ♥

The BBC News at 10pm on BBC 1 had an interesting section about Fuzzy's family. Are we in the virtual presence of celebrity?

Oh thanks Errol!

HAGAMAPA at this point ☺️

I'm away on a short trip for work reasons. I find work travel mostly a pain, but one major upside is the hotel buffet breakfast I'm about to tackle - toast from the trundly toast machine, random fruit salads and yoghurts etc etc - ooh YES PLEASE!!

EmpressaurusKitty · 23/07/2026 08:20

I LOVE hotel breakfasts. I’m always hungriest in the mornings.

In Italy in the evenings I usually get a glass of red wine somewhere & have the snacks they bring with it as tea.

ErrolTheDragon · 23/07/2026 08:37

I just need tea (2 mugs) and then a milky coffee mid morning nowadays so we tend to mostly book rooms without breakfast nowadays if we’re in a chain type hotel. Sad fact is that being short and over sixty I really don’t need three meals a day.

The Bluestocking, of course, caters for all appetites. So in that world … hm, Eggs Benedict or Florentine … crispy bacon and spinach please, under an egg with a yolk that’s still golden but very nearly set.

ChristmasStars · 23/07/2026 08:39

Same here Errol. I used to love hotel breakfasts but now I just want my coffee and I'll see later when I'm hungry.

FuzzyPuffling · 23/07/2026 09:13

I always have half a slice of DH's home made brown, seeded toast, with Polish plum spread. Best breakfast ever!

Looks like it doesn't it!
Puffling's new relative is only a few miles away from me so I'm especially excited but concerned that it's the only one to survive. I shall add that to my List Of Things To Worry About At 3am.

EmpressaurusKitty · 23/07/2026 10:42

I don’t really need three meals a day either but for me that means not having much after 3pm ish. Unless I’m out for dinner of course.

Do Things To Worry About at 3am have to be registered with the sleep & dream gerbils?

PastaAllaNorma · 23/07/2026 11:19

We had a hay devil, apparently, which is why strands of hay rained from the sky across the neighborhood.

I'm not blaming my local evil squirrel for that because I know all the other stuff she's done.

She's worked out how to take the tops off all the Tupperware containing bird seed etc. Every time I go into the shed I'm greeted by the sight of her hind legs and tail waving around as she's face-first into the sunflower hearts, stuffing herself.

She's making one hell of a mess. She's even had a go at the goldfish food.
