First puffin chick in 30 years raises hopes for Purbeck colony

From that article there’s a link to a piece about the England Coast path, which has reminded me that one of our retirement ideas is to walk as many of the nice parts of it as possible. That’s rather fallen by the wayside and off the cards right now - DHs sprain has made his foot swell in a way that’s not happened on previous occasions. A function of age no doubt.
We did get out for a nice stroll round a garden yesterday which has the most wonderful bee borders at the moment.

After the coast path, I wish the king or someone else would turn their attention to the Thames path & make that fully accessible too. There are too many bits that involve long detours around private land.

Those flowers are lovely. I scattered seeds of something similar, but it's been so dry and hot that all I have is little two inch high tufts of leaves. But - there's a hose pipe ban going nationwide in a couple of days and heavy rain is forecast, so maybe they'll do something just in time to obscure the view of the cyclamens and colchicums.

In the course of my tidying up over that few weeks one of the many things I found was a kettle still in its box, that I remember buying after the trauma of both my kettle and my toaster dying in the first weeks of Covid lockdown. I think I'd gone slightly mad; toasters and kettles aren't like milk or eggs, and there was another one in my bedroom anyway.

However, yesterday morning I knocked my then-in-use one to the floor (just boiled but luckily out of splash range of me or cats) smashing the plastic base, so my kitchen electrical appliance hoard has disappeared. I hope. I still have two fish kettles, but that's different.

That corner of my brain is solely dedicated to yarn and books, @MarieDeGournay. I have enough yarn to last at least a couple of years, maybe more, and a to be read pile that is taking on a life of its own. But if something happens and I have nothing to do except read and knit, I won’t run out too soon.

That’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it. And I won’t stop buying new yarn and books either.

I’ve just noticed a tendril of bindweed snaking up one of my pieris plants. It’s in a pot on my patio, how the hell did it invade there? I don’t think their seeds are small enough to be windblown.
Grrr.

Evil Squirrel did it.

I travelled all the way to the Big Town for an event I’m hosting for the charity I volunteer for.

Checked my phone for the email with details when I got there.

It’s tomorrow.
