Croeso/Welcome to the Bluestocking Women's Pub, with our lovely gerbil staff, the icy Mojito foot-bath for those of you fed up with the heat, a Quilting/Craft Nook, lots of yummy food and drink with zero calories, gluten, or allergens, the Gerbil World Cup, and a brand new magic pool that becomes a babbling brook whenever you want it to!

Come on in! All women welcome! (Men welcome at The Staunch Ally pub down the road aways)

(security provided by the capybaras, lovely folk, but try not to get in their way)

(oh, and don't mention triangles, please. Gubbins gets very overexcited)

(did we mention the Gerbil World Cup?)

If you mean The Flying Pickets' excellent version then yes I do. Their A Capella take on Only You was also good.

Ooh! I met the Flying Pickets after I went to see them in concert many years ago. They were amazing live.

“The first-ever Golden Clipboard,” Florence said, “for services to Gerbil football. Griselda — get up here.”

Oh my, I may just have got all teary.

Bravo @MyrtleLion , you have produced an epic thing of wonder. It's been joyous.

Thanks @MyrtleLion.

Honeysuckle, hmmm….

Catit Senses super circuit, YES! We can play with that together for ages.

The best catnip toys EVER are the woolly mice one of the rescue volunteers makes, though. Every cat I’ve given one too has loved it.

Edited

My cats favourite toy is a Pets at Home crinkly fish. In fact other than pure Catnip balls I think it's the only toy he's ever engaged with.

It amuses me that cats are all cool and superior and 'I beg your pardon, have we been formally introduced?' but if you wiggle something brightly-coloured, and/or catnip-flavoured in front of them, they lose all sense of decorum😁

Oh interesting, we haven’t got one of those.

Every evening at the moment we go out on the balcony, I hold out the catnip flowers (the white ones, not the pink ones) for Kitty to chomp & then she come back inside to roll around with her favourite mouse. After which she gets the munchies.

Hurrah! For the first time in 20 years I have a BMI which puts me in the healthy weight bracket.

I shall celebrate with...

<searches cupboards, opens fridge>

Erm... porridge.

I may not be that large or young but I am still working on not having 4 meals a day. Although supper is just a light thing.

I don’t really need three meals a day either but for me that means not having much after 3pm ish. Unless I’m out for dinner of course.

Do Things To Worry About at 3am have to be registered with the sleep & dream gerbils?

I would really like the sleep and dream gerbils to explain to my brain that it's ok to switch off.
Mr Hussy's lovely, kind, generous and tolerant 99yo old mother is very near the end of her life and we're in that peculiar limbo of desperately not wanting someone to die but knowing (as of this morning) that it's days away at most. I've been through it with my father and a much loved aunt but it's new to him and he doesn't quite know how to feel, it's a very subdued mood here. And sleep is already elusive in this continuing heat.

We had a hay devil, apparently, which is why strands of hay rained from the sky across the neighborhood.

I'm not blaming my local evil squirrel for that because I know all the other stuff she's done.

She's worked out how to take the tops off all the Tupperware containing bird seed etc. Every time I go into the shed I'm greeted by the sight of her hind legs and tail waving around as she's face-first into the sunflower hearts, stuffing herself.

She's making one hell of a mess. She's even had a go at the goldfish food.

That Is hilarious, @PastaAllaNorma!

I'm sorry, Hussie. That's such a difficult thing to be going through, for you both. Sending you peace.

Well done @Boiledbeetle! I have lost 24 pounds since the beginning of March but even when I get down to my target weight in another 35 pounds I shall still be in the slightly overweight category. But I don’t care!

I passed the recruiter interview and have an online interview with the company on Monday.

Hurrah, @MyrtleLion! They would be privileged to have our favourite lion on the staff. Not that I am at all biased.

Thank you, you’re very kind. Mr Hussy has at least been fortunate to have both of his parents survive into their 90s so that’s something positive.

That's wonderful! Very well done. I did something similar about 18 years ago when I retired, but sadly most of it has crept back on over the intervening years, made worse by my dicky knee making exercise very difficult. Sigh...

AsWithGlad · 23/07/2026 16:05

Congratulations, @Boiledbeetle ! How determined you are this year, with excellent results.

I had a helpful contribution to lowering my BMI this afternoon. My height was measured before a DEXA scan and it’s back to where it used to be when I was a teenager, rather than being up to an inch less. Shoes off for the measurement, too. Best not to talk about my weight.
