Scotgov will not appeal and the current transgender policy has been withdrawn. At long bloody last!!

For Women Scotland (@ForWomenScot) on X

Scottish Government will not appeal Lady Ross's ruling on prisons.

I knew a python who was left in the cage with two mice intended for his lunch. One of them started to chew him when he was torpid after eating the other.

Gerbils could be very bad for an anaconda.

But it did get to eat one of the mice, right? So that's still kind of a problem.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 24/06/2026 16:06

The whole business was typical of the owner of the snake not being prepared to pay attention to what was going on.

Yes, one of the mice found it a problem; I am unsure how much of a problem having been eaten in turn was for the snake, but it did get taken to the vet about it.

It only certifies that on the day the checks were run, there was nothing to see, or that there was, and employers cam make a judgement call on whether it's relevant to the job. I have in the past, as it totally wasn't relevant and she'd been working for years. It basically lasts 24 hours. We gave them 3 years, bit someone could have been charged the next day and still had a clean one until renewal. Employers can set their own lengths for requiring a new one.

The update service does help, but you still need to set a check date.

I only found out quite recently (possibly on MN) that the non-conviction police data on an enhanced dbs check is only updated every 9 months? This could include warnings, fixed penalties, arrests and/or investigation but no charges etc. So convictions are updated weekly but non convictions on every 9 months.

I do think the whole system needs updating and bringing in to the 21st century!

So you are celebrating society moving backwards? The comments here are ridiculous.

Have any of you wondered why trans women were moved to women’s prisons in the first place? It wasn’t because people campaigned for it or any ‘trans rights’. It was because the prison guards were sick of having to clean up the mess after they were attacked constantly. All this does is create a bigger problem in the prison population for woefully under staffed and under paid prison guards.

Have you wondered why women are housed separately from male inmates?

Go on. Take your time.

And once you've got that, extra points for explaining why it's up to women to compensate for male violence.

Also, you have to put down 5 years of addresses. I was dealing with PhD students at the start of their courses, often from overseas. When a DBS comes back within a week, I do not believe that the overseas police forces were asked to check. At all.

Seethlaw · 24/06/2026 15:24

Oh, that reminds me of the anaconda in the gerbils' cage discussion we had a few days ago. It was just as delightfully nonsensical 😂

I genuinely do not know how anyone has the patience this week, I really don't.

We could be here a while.

Vulnerable female prisoners are not human shields, validation resources or support humans. The female prison estate is not a convenient resource to be utilised for the benefit of men.

Quite astonishing that a (presumably) grown adult thinks they are, frankly.

This.

TIMs problems are not for biological women to solve either. Maybe sort out the segregation in men's prisons.

Great example of the sort of misinformation spread by TRAs.

The awful thing is seeing people you know to be intelligent, and in general quite sensible, being caught up in this horrendous herd mentality and starting to mouth the slogans without apparently having thought about them at all.

Someone I had previously thought quite bright recently told me off for saying I wasn't keen on JK Rowling's writing but failing to say she was an evil anti-trans whatever I was meant to say, and loudly and angrily informed me that I ought to shut up because she was using her money to try to destroy all trans people. wtaf? Clearly very short on information, long on propaganda.

And let me guess: you're not going to explain how anyone missed the point. We'll just have to mysteriously figure it out...

No, I'm answering for myself.

Are you going to explain how we missed @MummyWillow1 's point?

CohensDiamondTeeth · 24/06/2026 18:07

Seethlaw · 24/06/2026 09:23

Yeah, and they seem to be legitimate addresses, too. I really hope nobody is going to be endangered by the TRAs 😨

There's a post in site stuff asking if MN reported the doxxer to the police.

They say no, they've just removed the posts and banned the poster.

Edited

I think some people (quite a lot of people actually) are short on research time and like to farm this out to someone else (social media, their boss, their teenager, whoever).

I also think a lot of people like to belong to something (cause, group), and as long as they feel happy in their chosen belonging, they don't question things.

Or at least, that's what Generous Me is telling myself today. Ask me again tomorrow.

Oh hello Seethlaw, hello CuriousQueer - small world, isn't it?😀
I addressed MummyWillow1's point not once but twice - I repeated my post as she seemed not to have seen it first time round, which was early in the thread.

Ha ha, how do you think I knew to tell you not to bother with them :P ? I ran into them on a couple of threads, and everywhere they just insulted people, said we were wrong about things, and evaded explaining how. Not sure why they are even bothering to post at all, but heh, it's their time, they can waste it however they want.

murasaki · 24/06/2026 18:40

If they had a coherent argument, you'd think they'd use it. Occam's razor says.....

Are you able to explain what mummy willow's point is? It's far better if you or they could expand on it for us.

Oh did somebody somehow focus on women, instead of men?

Sound the alarm! Someone has failed to prioritise men's feelings!

It does flag this in guidance.
