Just doing a little research and thought, if anyone has seen the full range of reasons - it would be all of you!

Replies are very reassuring and tell the writers they are talking sexist bollocks. Good.

Another one who doesn't know the difference between hypothesis and theory.

An extremely intelligent man I knew well on another forum arguing, seriously, that sex was on a spectrum because different people have different levels of sex hormones.

You might as well argue that sex is on a spectrum because some men are shorter than some women!

I think that second one has actually been used as an argument!!

Stolen from today's thread on toilet illegality at Sunderland Minster:

To be trans is to be blessed with a sacred calling, to engage in an act of co-creation such that the accident of one's body rhymes with the essence of one's soul.

I think they were aiming for King James bible language of theological authority, but slightly ruined it by concluding trans people are sacred! Get over it!

Boettcher is hard to top. I'm not sure which visible and internal biological facts gender describes.

Do you think it covers my friend's longstanding across-the-biometal-love-divide unrequited hetero man-machine love affair with Autobot leader Optimus Prime? I mean I know he's just a fictional construct persona invented in 1980s corporate america to sell expensive plastic toys licensed from Japan. But it's real to me. I mean my friend.

Is it better or worse than Alan Cumming claiming they are Superheroes?

“It’s a complex subject but essentially the science bit is that the template of the embryo in the womb is female and that then goes through a chemical washing process, But for transgender people it’s like the washing machine doesn’t quite fill up, which causes disparity in the brain"

Jonathan Willoughby

Template of the embryo? How, what?

Chemical washing? Sounds nasty. Is that like hormone washing but more sciencey?

Eco wash cycle = trans? I knew it'd be the conservationists' fault. Bloody Greens!

I can't believe we've not had

'Because I got a certificate' yet.

ThatsNicer · 27/05/2026 12:36

HipTightOnions · 26/05/2026 20:23

Because we all started off female.

Thanks, I hadn't heard that one before.

RedToothBrush · 27/05/2026 12:37

I can swim a mile cos I got a certificate so it must be true mentality.

Blessed be the trans for they shall inherit the women's toilets and changing rooms. Amen 🙏

Chemical washing; you mean like the Americans do with chicken.

Because there are trees and plants that "change sex" throughout their life

This brought to you by "Brigitte Baptiste" (formerly Luis Guillermo Baptiste), whose groundbreaking contributions to scientific discovery include the assertion that "nothing is more queer than nature" and the demand that it is "time to reframe sustainable work through a queer lens".

(If you google Baptiste please be aware that a number of the photographs he poses for focus very much on his incredibly natural enormous cleavage being on display)

Michael Phelps has big hands.

Therefore men might be women.

Because they've heard of a bimodal distribution and thank it sounds clever but don't realise you have to actually have something measurable along the x axis

Because binary sex is just a colonialist idea

Because they've heard of a bimodal distribution and thank it sounds clever but don't realise you have to actually have something measurable along the x axis.

Yes, this is the essence of a lot of their nonsense, isn't it.

(maybe it's the "essence of woman")

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 27/05/2026 13:02

Five years ago when we were discussing The Hidden Case of Ewan Forbes by Professor Zoe Playdon (https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/4396934-Radio-4-just-now-8-47-bonkers-conflation-of-intersex-and-trans ) I went down a rabbithole trying to find out a bit more about the author. Frustratingly, I can't find the piece I read then, but IIRC Playdon, who was born male, wrote that having a 'female brain' in what is undeniably a male body is a medical condition just like having ambiguous genitalia or a hormone disorder i.e. disorders of sexual development in modern parlance, previously known as intersex conditions. I don't know if Playdon still thinks this, because I had the impression it was a very old-fashioned belief even then.

see also 'constellation of data points' which I think is designed to sound sciency but conveniently avoids anything empirically measurable. There's often an implied desire for some kind of science validation from passing a 'trans test'.

Even the most cursory and scientifically uninformed consideration of such a test immediately reveals that almost none of the men who profess to want such a thing, would end up on the woman side of the results graph.
