Just doing a little research and thought, if anyone has seen the full range of reasons - it would be all of you!

Clownfish!

TeenToTwenties · 26/05/2026 17:48

Clownfish
DSDs
You get tall strong women and small weak men.
Special people who are so different from all the boring people who of course fit into stereotype boxes.

SwearOnChanel · 26/05/2026 17:50

Sex is on the spectrum!

Heggettypeg · 26/05/2026 17:51

"Sex is a nebulous dog whistle".
(Dr Upton, during Sandie Peggie's employment tribunal.)

GallantKumquat · 26/05/2026 17:57

The large majority of trans individual think they are (or will be, after transition) the opposite biological sex, because they are taking cross sex hormones and undergoing body modification surgery, which are biological processes - thus Upton's response to the question of biological sex: "I'm not a robot."

I was surprised that even an 'old school' transexual like Victoria McCloud asserted exactly this (though I probably shouldn't have been surprised, because that's essentially the same thing that Jan Morris claimed in the 80s) - if you expect that you start as biological sex M and arrive at biological sex F, then it's logical to deduce that your sex were on a continuum during that journey.

Clownfish!

Noooo I wanted that one!!! 😩😩😩😩

Dominoodles · 26/05/2026 18:08

Because PCOS. I've literally been told before that because some women have a medical condition that causes higher testosterone, that they are literally intersex and no longer women - therefore if one in four women aren't really women, then sex clearly can't be binary

McBottle · 26/05/2026 18:10

Some women are infertile or have hysterectomies

ClematisBirdbath · 26/05/2026 18:10

Name changed for this one.

Someone I know with a trans identified child born through IVF actually said she thought that maybe swimming around in all those hormones she'd been taking for 9 months meant that the boy she gave birth to was actually female inside.

I honestly didn't have a single thing to say to that. I think I just quickly changed the subject.

Sorry, that's not really about binary sex not being a thing.

Chersfrozenface · 26/05/2026 18:14

Thinking you are the other sex, or neither sex, or both, happens in the brain and is therefore biological.

So your biological sex is whatever you think it is.

BarbieBrightSide · 26/05/2026 18:15

Because sex is WAY MORE COMPLICATED than high school biology. Are you a biologist? (actually I am, plants and microbes, but still)

I still like to refer to Maniac Magpie's comment from years ago (paraphrased):

'If one of your parents transitioned, are you honestly telling me that I wouldn't know which had impregnated the other on meeting them'

JustAnUdea · 26/05/2026 18:17

Because there are societies where women forsake marriage and become the breadwinners etc when thete is a lack of men.

singthing · 26/05/2026 18:20

Does this count? From a FB thread today

Henry Erik Böttcher
No, sex is not biological, is no fact, is not natural, is not THE truth- biological sex is a theory that describes visible and internal biological facts. So does gender. biological sex is strictly cis oriented, gender includes everyone. Therefore biological sex is not only ignorable , it is toxic.

Pembroke College, Oxford

Gender-inclusive language is increasingly recognised as essential in healthcare to ensure respectful and equitable care for transgender and gender-diverse individuals. But how is it used in practice...

BECAUSE

(said in whiney teenage voice)

CassOle · 26/05/2026 18:25

... because it is bimodal.

... because 'intersex' is as common as red hair.

... because the concept of sex is a colonial construct.

BreadInCaptivity · 26/05/2026 18:28

Because sex is just arbitrarily assigned at birth.

user1471538275 · 26/05/2026 18:38

Because Eve was made from Adam's rib and therefore is really just a clone of Adam with rearranged parts.

DustyWindowsills · 26/05/2026 19:58

"They're discovering new things all the time, you know." 🫩

Lottapianos · 26/05/2026 20:02

'Because sex is WAY MORE COMPLICATED than high school biology. Are you a biologist?'

Yep, this 🙄

I always want to ask these utter idiots if they understand how babies are created

Wearenotborg · 26/05/2026 18:06

Noooo I wanted that one!!! 😩😩😩😩

Me too, I never really got past Clownfish, all the other reason are just so boring compared to Clownfish. 😂

teawamutu · 26/05/2026 20:12

Because of that stupid blog from the Scientific American years ago which took a chart of DSDs and drew lines all over it in a way that identified as being scientific (I e., wasn't).

The quiet part, pretty much every time: Because I want it to be true.

Waitingfordoggo · 26/05/2026 20:18

Because some women have smaller boobs than other women 🤔 (and are therefore less female).

InSlovakiaTheCapitalOfCourseIsBratislava · 26/05/2026 20:21

The SRY gene
Also, clownfish

no body ever mentions hyenas . They give birth through their clitoris

TheywontletmehavethenameIwant · 26/05/2026 20:23

The anti-women squad that turn up to protest us protesting our government's failure to inaction the SC's judgement like to shout 'not every women has a clittie'.

HipTightOnions · 26/05/2026 20:23

Because we all started off female.
