Just doing a little research and thought, if anyone has seen the full range of reasons - it would be all of you!

I remember some young woman on X saying that with hormones women can grow a prostate. I guess this goes with the same idea that men can grow a cervix.

sashh · 27/05/2026 09:45

That taking hormones changes their DNA.

MagpiePi · 27/05/2026 09:53

Men can get breast cancer which means that men can breastfeed

Me: "sex is binary"
Sibling (a biologist! recoiling in horror): "Good heavens! It's the 21st century"

Because ‘well when women first started football, they got banned for beating all the men. No I’m not doing your homework - fact check it yourself. Also transmen develop beer guts in middle age so what with that & the beards you wouldn’t want them in your toilets WOULD YOU. & tall women exist, YOU are taller than lots of men, you wouldn’t like people calling you a man WOULD YOU’.

(a) it’s happened quite a lot albeit momentarily actually, & I’m fine with it (b) the ex friend in question is a 6’4 bloke who was towering over me whilst berating me for being tall…BUT FOOTBALL 😆

Scientific American says it's not ...
Here's Why Human Sex Is Not Binary | Scientific American
Are you saying you know better than Scientific American? Who do you think you are? (I'm a doctor by trade, so you're probably less qualified to talk about human biology than I am, and if you're equally or better qualified than I am to talk about human biology then you should fucking well be ashamed of yourself for getting sucked into claiming to believe in this gender bollocks. If you can use a can't win either way argument, so can I.)

I've also seen the "women's football got banned because the women were beating all the men" nonsense in the wild. Yes, right. So that'll be why, 100 years later, women with a lifetime of reasonable access to sporting opportunities and decent nutrition are absolutely walloping the men.

“It’s a complex subject but essentially the science bit is that the template of the embryo in the womb is female and that then goes through a chemical washing process, But for transgender people it’s like the washing machine doesn’t quite fill up, which causes disparity in the brain"

😅🤣😂 this one wins 🏆

And 'everyone's sooo Obsessed with genitals. We need to stop using genitals as a sex marker!'

Also, no one can see your chromosomes, so they're not important in day to day life
Lots of things can't be seen, Marburg virus, gamma rays, Bacillus anthracis, carbon monoxide....I still take all of them fecking seriously.

You can't see my blood, my lungs, my brain...

I've never heard such nonsense.

nebulous dog whistle

I'm not a robot and I'm a woman therefore I'm a biological woman

Because some women have smaller boobs than other women 🤔 (and are therefore less female).

No one has actually said that to me (that yardstick would make me female+++++) but if they did, I'd turn it around to penis size - 'so are you saying that a man with a big penis is more masculine than a man with a smaller one?' Preferably said in front of a large group of men for best effect, and then sit back and watch the blustering.

Yet breast size and shape do change a lot over the course of the female lifetime. Sadly, nay tragically, at 70+ I no longer have the breasts I had at 16, I can't deny it. And I'm every bit as female now as I was then (although much less inclined to take shit from anyone).

Flunkit · 27/05/2026 10:40

No one's checked my chromosomes

CrazyWorldBlues · 27/05/2026 10:41

Because of white-throated Sparrows

CassOle · 27/05/2026 10:41

Which female politician used that argument and then stated that their chromosomes were 'probably XY'?

Edit. In reply to Flunkit.

Grammarnut · 27/05/2026 10:42

Cos avocados. Can't stand avocados, they taste like soap. Must be a meaning in there somewhere?

Very 80s. I thoght the embryo starts off female idea had been discredited? Sex is decided at conception not with pink or blue wash? (NB blue is for girls, not pink, pink is for boys and used to be a popular colour for boys' clothing - the reference is to protection by the Virgin (blue) or by St. Joe (pinky-red)).

CassOle · 27/05/2026 10:50

Yes, I think there was a recent study that showed that male and female foetuses diverged in their development at only 7 days after conception. I think it was that male foetuses put more energy into growing bigger, amongst other things (IIRC).

HipTightOnions · 27/05/2026 10:54

Because “sex” just refers to the labels we apply to particular sets of physical features (which admittedly tend to occur in clusters). However other combinations are possible and equally valid.

Yes, an embryo starts with undifferentiated gonads. However, this didn't stop my DS learning 'the embryo starts off female' on a Biology degree at a Russell Group Uni fairly recently. He told me that the perineal raphe on the male scrotum proves it. I offered to send him photos of the perineal raphe on females, but he declined the offer.

That would be Kirsty Blackman, of the SNP.

Does this count? From a FB thread today

Henry Erik Böttcher
No, sex is not biological, is no fact, is not natural, is not THE truth- biological sex is a theory that describes visible and internal biological facts. So does gender. biological sex is strictly cis oriented, gender includes everyone. Therefore biological sex is not only ignorable , it is toxic.

Replies are very reassuring and tell the writers they are talking sexist bollocks. Good.

Bloody hell! Hard to see how anyone can top that.
