That is if The Human Paperweight that is Philipson can make her mind up. What should we expect?

Take heart Marie, the trans are never going to use them. They only want the women's bathrooms for validation. Going into the Disabled ones doesn't give them that. They don't want 3rd spaces, they want the Ladies toilets.

Some do, some don't. Some have scared themelves silly. And some expect they'll get disapproval or suspicion from other people (including other men when they use men's facilities) and they read that as hate. The overlap with autism means they may be very bad at reading that difference and at judging where it's safe or appropriate for them to be. It externalises their own discomfort at being seen as "different".

At least a "unisex" sign gives clarity about where it's acceptable for them to be. Many will choose not to use "unisex" facilities (due to other motives) but some will.

Alex Sobel MP has posted on fb. A long post about how dangerous this is and how anti trans, with links to several mental health groups and trans support groups. I welcome the links for those that need them but the rest of the post is anger inducing. This man has obviously never spent even a second thinking about a woman’s needs and safety.

Or women's mental health. Or the groups of women affected. Or the optics of this blatant misogyny.

Why is he handing women such very unequal consideration and treatment? Why does he feel this is somehow ok to do?

Interesting from Geri Scott of the Times highlighting some of the differences between the old guidance and the new guidance

I am going to C&P a response I have seen from a woman ( I cannot be sure of course which kind) on a well known hobby forum, which is populated mostly by blokes (not motoring). I may have responded in a rather curt way, to the use of "dopey dykes" to describe women standing up for women's rights.

"This stupid adjudication does not take into account certain, more obvious problems. The ruling applies to all transgender folk and this includes female-to-male transexuals, who now apparently can no longer use the gent's toilets but can quite happily walk into the ladies wearing male jeans and a T shirt while sporting a full beard and talking in a manly voice. Not only happily, but perhaps now mandatory. Pity the poor male-to-female transgender person who is supposed to walk into the male toilets while wearing makeup, a dress and high heels.

This whole issue came about because some dopey dykes in Scotland decided to take umbrage at something that rarely, if ever, happens, i.e. assault of a woman by a transgender person.

Whatever JK Rowling says, this will eventually backfire and end up generally restricting women's rights, especially if the extreme right get any sort of power, but as usual, a tiny group of people have taken a mile when they were given an inch."

OpheliaWitchoftheWoods · 22/05/2026 13:37

It just drips misogyny.

There is no idea about and no care for women's particularly needs and voices, any woman who won't lie down for these men is scum. And they feel ok about saying that openly without expecting people to look at them in horror.

Which is why this law is needed. Women's rights? We haven't even bloody started.

That is the same lovely fella who replied with a blunt 'no' to a tweet asking someone (the tweeter wasn't even asking him) if women should have single-sex prisons, refuges and hospital wards.

Men's feelings obviously matter more than women's safety and right to not be caged with rapists.

I haven't followed much UK news so far today, but there's a lot of it:
Pep leaving Man City, Andrew M-W in more trouble, NATO summit, 26.9 deg at Heathrow, Judith Chalmers RIP, England squad announced, etc., and it looks like 'sex means biological sex' isn't a headline any more.

Good. 'Sex means biological sex' is yesterday's news - if it was news at all - so let's all just move on and follow the law. And the toilet for all biological males is over there➡, gentlemenGrin

murasaki · 22/05/2026 14:09

I'm not sure, I kind of think it should be pinned at the top of all news bulletins for some time so that it sinks in.

Cailin66 · 22/05/2026 14:52

Amazingly it’s a toilet and not a urinal.

I don't think many MPs are going to push back on the guidance (apart from the usual suspects obviously) because I think a lot of them just want to draw a line under this now.

I'm sure there will be lots of protests and kicking off by the TRAs when they realise they are not going to have their demands met. There will be calls to amend to amend the Equality Act, but who is going to open that can of worms?

So my prediction is that it will settle down and we can all carry on with our lives, safe in the knowledge that women's singles sex spaces, sports etc are protected. Too hopeful? 😄

Quoting as we don’t have a shocked face or angry face emoji.

I wish I could comment on his posts but my work is full on TWAW so I can’t risk it. One lone voice had disagreed with him when I saw it, in a sea of fawning posts about him.

Fun fact - Charles vi of France believed he was made of glass (probably not so much fun fir him...)

Indeed - this is what I was referencing re glass people.

She said :
Thank you Janice. Most of the country agrees with you, which gives me hope that opportunist politicians may finally get on the right side of this issue.

With V Howard commenting:
And thank you Janice for your advocacy over the years - so many prominent women (think BBC Women's Hour post Jenny Murray) ignored the issue and even platformed trans identifying men repeatedly. The BBC failed us, so did the Guardian, liberal left politicians, universities, public services etc etc

We (the NHS auditors) have heard this too (eta - about staff being in a bind over where to put vulnerable trans identifying patients).

What was done to the toilet consultation a few years ago was shocking. ‘Consultants’ telling the government to enclose toilets because of transactions preferences, when they should have realised that people with long term health conditions (their actual remit) are more likely to collapse in a toilet. They didn’t even look at the most common medical conditions that cause issues, but did discuss crotch heights of non binary people.
Women and ambulant disabled people’s real-life safety needs were dismissed.

ThatCyanCat · Yesterday 12:09

Obviously that trans identified woman should never have been in a men's ward. That's the biggest safeguarding failure. But once she was, how was it that the men in there were able to attack her? How were they, and she, not supervised? I know pretty much nothing about this field so I'd welcome any information.
