Hi all

Has anyone else had private messages from random people asking for suport for Reform in the coming by-election?

one account can send pms using different usernames.

And it appears as two totally separate conversations in your inbox? That can’t be right. This place was never set up to be this untrustworthy.

ArabellaScott · 19/05/2026 09:28

It's not really been a problem in many years, tbh.

RegularFrankieFan · 19/05/2026 09:31

It's weird because I've just tried to send PMs using multiple usernames, and it wouldn't let me, but some people say it's possible for them to do so?

PerkingFaintly · 19/05/2026 09:43

I can send in my different usernames, too. When I look down my PMs page, each convo specifies which username it's under.

(Which is just as well, 'cos I'd never remember and some are about personal stuff.)

You'd need to change your name each time and start a new convoy each time.

I'm no techie though.

Ah, so you could send two PMs to the same person, but only if you started a new convo to do so? That doesn't seem like a good thing to allow, really!

I don't use PMs anyway. I was just seeing what was possible in regards to this thread, but it doesn't seem great that someone could be strung along by the same person using multiple name changes.

ArabellaScott · 19/05/2026 09:52

People dont use pms that much tbh.

Unless its just that nobody sends them to me. Always possible I'm just Arabella Nae Pals.

Strung along how?

Careful. You'll get a PM pile-on now😁

RegularFrankieFan · 19/05/2026 09:54

There are all kinds of scammers and catfishers that can reel in the more gullible by adopting different identities for all kinds of purposes. I've never had anything like that happen on here to be fair, but I've seen enough documentaries to know it happens.

Like you'll have a romance scammer get his "friend" to contact you to vouch for his genuineness when it's just him under another name.

ArabellaScott · 19/05/2026 10:02

I just don't think MN gets many catfishers.

still never really worked out what catfishing is

Catfishing is just pretending to be someone else and building an online relationship with people, either to satisfy some emotional need or to scam them financially or both.

There's been a lot of MNers who've given money to " struggling" mums over the years, and I suppose that's sort of a similar thing.

I'm not sure if pretending to be Reform to get screenshots to show how far right we all are would count as catfishing or not, but I suppose it's just a different form of the same thing.

PerkingFaintly · 19/05/2026 10:09

OK I've just changed my default to another of my usernames, say [myothername].

My posts on this thread continue to be by PerkingFaintly, as it's the name I've been using on this thread.

When I go to my PMs page to start a convo it defaults to [myothername] in the username box, but I can type "PerkingFaintly" over this. It confirms PerkingFaintly as one of my names and says "You are sending this message as PerkingFaintly".

But if I start a PM by clicking on @ArabellaScott 's post above, I get "You are sending this message as [myothername]". I wasn't expecting that: I'd imagined it would appear as PerkingFaintly, the name I've been using on this thread.

(I didn't actually send the PM, so don't worry that it's not in your inbox.)

PerkingFaintly · 19/05/2026 10:15

And now I'm wondering whether that's made you feel all left out and Nae Pals again, @ArabellaScott .Sad

Have a Brew. Nicer than a PM.Smile

So MNHQ are deleting posts on here but not commenting themselves. How odd.

OP posts:
SingleSexSpacesInSchools · 19/05/2026 10:32

er this is mad - what messages are being deleted?

I know I made one last night at about half ten calling this explanation bullshit - assume that?

Loads of yours have been deleted

ArabellaScott · 19/05/2026 11:12

Deletions are probably for 'trollhunting'. You can email MN and ask. They hate that, though.

BridgetPhillipsonIsACowardlyJobsworth · 19/05/2026 11:42

Yup, that was mine [22.47] Not really bothered, I was convinced that the poster was not genuine, but looks like something else might be going on. I guess MNHQ is looking into it, but it's certainly a strange way of going about it! Never seen an explanation for weird msgs coming from an actual poster, rather than directly from HQ.

If MNHQ ever come on here to explain, I'm happy to apologize to the poster, if required, but will hold that in reserve until I hear from someone official.

KittyWilkinson · 19/05/2026 12:11

Shedmistress · 19/05/2026 10:30

So MNHQ are deleting posts on here but not commenting themselves. How odd.

MN replied to my report ( not of singlesexspaces - that wasn't me) to say that they are taking a look.
So, clear as mud really.

BridgetPhillipsonIsACowardlyJobsworth · 19/05/2026 12:26

I have had no notification/contact from MNHQ at all, just a deleted post. No explanation.

Perhaps they are short staffed at the moment.

I don't think you usually get a notification or explanation if a post is deleted. It just goes.

ElenOfTheWays · 19/05/2026 15:09

ArabellaScott · 19/05/2026 08:19

You can make a new username just by typing it in the box.

No you can't. You have to put in your password to change. Well I do. So "Nephew using account accidently left signed in," doesn't wash if the username was changed.
