Reform sending private messages for support in Wigan

Hi all

Has anyone else had private messages from random people asking for suport for Reform in the coming by-election?

I’ve been on MN under this name since at least 2020. I’m sure there’s a way of checking my old posts. They’re all very boring.

This is really poor of MNHQ (if it is really them).
They don't sound like they're taking it seriously. They themselves should have put a message on the thread to explain.

Whatever’s going on, it’s very poor of MN not to clear it up themselves. How are we supposed to know what to believe?

I know no one's been harmed as such and posters' responses were pretty robust (as might be expected from FWR posters!) but this relates to an electoral process AND it's a breach of MN's regulations, so surely they should have said something?

Actually, it seems that they do!

MNHQ would know which account the posts came from. And whether they came from this person's log in or not. If they had they would have posted on here. Not left it to the account to inform people about what happened.

I agree this is very poor form on MNHQs part. I’m also not buying that it was an old hacked phone, not when there are multiple accounts involved.

MNHQ should post on this thread and let us know what's going on, rather than leaving it to individual posters.

They will also know whether it's just the one account all the PMs came from.

As an aside, I don't understand how the folk on this thread saying the PMs came from different accounts, rather than different usernames on a single account, could know that? Without being MNHQ?

For once, it actually was, but I guess I can see the reasoning behind checking it out.

I deliberately did not name the user who messaged me, but it ties up with one of the names subsequently posted. I also did not use the name of the by election location and used the generic area and did not play along with their messaging, because I suspected it would be screenshot and posted 'see MN users are keen to help Reform' by the TRA posting it.

If I'd thought it was actually Reform I'd have posted on Site Stuff.

I did have a response from MNHQ who just said to ignore it.

The person who had 2 different user names contact them, and we have not been in any contact behind the scenes, would not know if there were 2 accounts or one account with 2 changed names, unless they know if it is impossible to name change on DMs. I've never tested that out but maybe they have?

I've just tested this by sending you 2 PMs and can confirm this is the case...don't out my other user name, it is highly sensitive information. 😂

Also, when I went to send a message using my other incognito name, I had to know what that was as I had forgotten it, it didn't come up as an option so I had to go back into my account so if I'd have invented a new one there and then, I'd have had to put my password in again to invent one, so the 'nephew' would have had to have known this, and put the password in to make the new name/s so the 'playing around on MN' line does seem like 'nephew' is rather aquainted with the whole process IMHO.

You can make a new username just by typing it in the box.

Although you cant change username midway through a pm convo or thread as far as I know

I tried that and it said I could only use this one or one belonging to me.
