Anyone seen this? Billboard in central Edinburgh. Wondering whether there are more across the country?

Yes, as usual it comes back to the need to define what words mean.

What even is a trans person? It means different things to different people.

Some use it to mean 'I know what sex i am but I want to present as the opposite gender'

Some use it to mean 'i want you to pretend I'm the opposite sex'

And some like the lovely Dr Uptonogood don't seem to ID as trans at all, they think they literally are the opposite sex. So presumably aren't covered by this poster? 🤷‍♀️

The first group I can appreciate are just going about their business, but the second and third are causing no end of problems.

The other issue I have with the "trans people exist get over it" plus the posters the thread is originally about are that they're fundamentally untrue. Unlike gay rights there are issues with "trans rights" that extend way beyond peoples ignorance or moral stance on the matter.

Exactly. Translation to further expose the difference.

Some men love other men, get over it.

Some women love other women, get over it.

Some people love others of either sex, get over it.

Some men state they must be treated as if they are women in all situations. Get over it.

Some women state they must be treated as if they are men in all situations. Get over it.

The lack of impact on others was the whole point of the original campaign.

Yup.

The goalposts have moved over time. I think most trans people and their allies started out with the first definition, but the most vocal/aggressive element has pushed for the second, and then the third.

Many of us were prepared to accept/tolerate the first definition. What I find frustrating is that many people are unaware that the definition has changed and just think terfs are big meanies who are unnecessarily hostile to poor little trans people who are 'just trying to exist'
