I’m no fan of Noem, but if “has opposed gay marriage” is your line, that’s Biden, Obama, both Clintons out, John Edwards, Al Gore, the list goes on and on.

Even UK Stonewall opposed as late as 2010.

Arguably the US’s main proponent of gay marriage was Andrew Sullivan (a conservative, and former classmate of Keir Starmer weirdly).

I think some of these examples are a bit disingenuous, though, in that they are not really equivalent to Noem's position. It seems likely that Obama did privately support it before he did so publicly, there are some indications.

Certainly many gay activists believed this, which was partly why he wasn't criticised for not supporting earlier as much as you might expect. A lot of anti gay marriage campaigners also believed that Obama's stance had been a pose all along, and that doesn't seem an entirely unreasonable suspicion to me.

UK Stonewall opposed largely because Summerskill thought it was unlikely to win and civil partnerships had already granted the same rights. This is a different situation to the US, where civil partnerships conferred fewer rights.

All the politicians named did support gay rights more generally, in the sense of civil partnerships etc usually for some years before changing their stance on marriage. Whereas Noem opposes gay rights more broadly, not simply marriage, and has not changed her stance, unlike the above names who did change positions after some time.

As JK Rowling said recently, A lot of older liberals (in both the US and the UK) have brought very old-fashioned sensibilities to this debate. They’re still locked into the idea that all trans women are, or were, effeminate gay men, and they’re perplexed that any woman would see them as a threat.

These are people who’ve never met an AGP (autogynaphiliac) in the wild, don’t understand online cultures, know nothing about trends in porn, aren’t on TikTok where ‘gender-affirming’ surgeons advertise directly to minors, and they’ve aged out of having kids at school, so have no notion that social contagion might be at play.

They look round at all their similarly aged dinner party friends, none of whom are aware of any of these things either, and adopt a vibe-based position: this is gay rights 2.0, anyone who opposes it must be far-right, and thank goodness. Our Sort are kinder, better, and (most importantly) far more sophisticated.

That said, I don't think Noem's views on anything should prevent us from feeling sympathy on a human level. No one deserves a husband with these hideous fantasies

Even if they all WERE gay men, women shouldn't have to share spaces with them, sports facilities.. the list goes on.

GeneralPeter · 05/04/2026 09:20

@Carla786 I guess the case in Noem’s defence would be that many of those democrats actually legislated to block gay marriage, not just held views on it, and that most of her views that get cast as extreme are actually pro-sex-based rights or religious freedoms.

Anyway, I’m not really pro-Noem (and I’m quite an Obama stan), but I do dislike the memory-holing that happens on this sort of issue.

What a horrible man! Were you able to report him for saying that about the girls?

It was at my daughter's training school ( she's a teacher). She was really shocked, obviously.....though being a trainee didn't take it any further. He had said it to her during a personal exchange.

It later transpired that there had been several parental complaints about this teacher ( I suspect from muslim parents of which there would have been many) - and he left at the end of that term, but went to work at another local school.

The girls were expected to refer to him as 'Miss'. I don't understand what the head was thinking of when they employed him.

So women who have different politics and opinions from yours deserve to be mistreated? How dare they have independent views, they deserve to be punished? Misogyny much.

Independent? She and her husband jumped on the right wing social conservative anti-gay anti-trans bandwagon. They say they believe in family values but they are hypocrites.

Pingponghavoc · 05/04/2026 12:49

I'm getting the impression that we cant stop the social mayhem that is transgenderism, because gay men benefit from it, and right wing women deserve to punish by it.

You’re being very ‘transphobic’ there about Kristi Noem’s poor diddums transwoman partner. Man who cosplays as a woman in grotesquely sexualised costume of what thrills them sexually. Enormous, cartoonish balloon breast costume. Check. Bright pink (being a lady and all), tight sparkly hot pants. Check. Were his genitals tucked or not? Doesn’t matter, most men who cosplay as women have their bits front and foremost. Them being sexually excited as they play out their fetishistic fantasies.

So, just another man who is so very brave. Daring to be his true, inner lady self. As real, and sincere as each and every other man who does anything similar. These are the ‘human rights’ of the men who are trying to bulldoze every barrier, and safeguard in order to have access to spaces where women and girls (and young boys who are with their mothers) are undressing or vulnerable in some way. I’m utterly convinced these blokes carrying out their paraphilic behaviour (are to a man) honest, upright and honourable in their intentions. Well, if I were gullible or credulous fool with no care or concern for the rights of women and children.

Oh, I’m sure one needn’t limit the abuses to right wing women. I’m sure all these dudes engaged in the thrashing of women’s rights are more than happy to disbenefit all women and girls.

It's not anti trans to want to preserve biological women's spaces.

Somebody can have a position I dislike and have arrived at it through independent thinking. Disagreeing with someone doesn't mean they don't think for themselves.

Exactly. Mr Noem is arguably a typical transwoman, just one caught with their pants down on the national stage

Oh, I was deleted. I think all I said was I made the mistake of googling a picture of this man showing his fake boobs.

I can't remember what I said about it, but I'm guessing it wasn't complementary 😁

However, anyone can google it. It's splashed across the Internet from one end to the other, including mainstream media.

if men monitoring this thread are trying to stop people looking at it, and having an opinion, I think that ship has not only sailed, it's not even a dot in the distance.

Well HQ have that marvellously convenient rule that you can't generalise, but neither can you be too specific.

It's genius 😁

Hm, one of my posts in this thread has been deleted. It can't be because I used the previously forbidden word that rhymes with lettisch, because it's been used in other posts. We're being monitored and censored still.

I am very reluctant to peer into the soup that is the male sexual psyche. I am completely cool as long as they stay well away from women's single sex spaces, refrain from pushing kids into questioning their sex and, finally, acting out their fetishes in public.

FateAmenableToChange · 05/04/2026 21:46

I expect is a broad church, with some definitely in it for the kicks (and worse), while others truly do feel out of step with the prevailing gender norms of their birth sex.

The bit where it became bonkers was trying to impose on everyone else that feeling uncomfortable with an often oppressive societal norm meant you had magically changed sex. Instead of you know, questioning why such norms even exist in the first place.

I mean I feel unconfortable with the opening gambit of this thread 'Men dressing as women' - what exactly does that mean? I favour an androdgenous look myself, find it comfortable and expresses my identity well. Im not an overtly feminine person at all. So what exactly is 'dressing like a woman' when that encompasses so much.

moto748e · 05/04/2026 22:34

I'm a man, and so am I. I think the worry is that deviant behaviour, for want of a better term, is increasingly being normalised by the lack of previous social constraints. It's OK to dress up like a porn star to go to work, it's OK to invade women's spaces, etc. Of course, it's not OK at all.
