Women’s Hour - Transwoman Talking About Misogyny WTAF?

DrBlackbird · 17/03/2026 10:59

I’ve just clocked this as R4 on in the background but Nuala (of course) talking to a transwoman about misogyny?! I mean just what… Nuala asked about his experience of misogyny after transitioning. Apparently, nothing, not even misogyny, is allowed to be centred on women.

In the same episode, Womb's Hour had an item on an online physio game, for stroke patients.
There are many differences between males and females, (shhh...., but even the High Court says so, ) And, one such difference is the tendency of females to be cooperative and of males to be competetive.

Therefore, the physio game is based on appealing to patients' desire to be competetive.(!)

The logic accepted without question, by all, is that whatever appeals to males must be the only thing that matters. To hell with those stupid sub-humans, the females. They should stop having strokes, because that's for men. If they insist on having strokes, like men, then they must be required to turn into men, and be obsessed with, therefore motivated by, competition, sport and gaming.

Womb's Hour had a representative of something called 50/50, supposedly to do with equality.
They had a woman talking about her husband's amazing progress, post-stroke, because the game appeals to his invariablly easily triggered impulse to compete.

They had a female presenter. Not one among the lot of them could comprehend that women are not men.

This morning's WH had an item on women in sport. They got an elite woman rugby player, as a 'spokeswoman' to represent all women and girls in the general public. (!)

She explained that, in childhood, her parents would buy her footballs, so she could 'bribe' the boys to let her play. She therefore concluded that all girls must be made to "run around and play sport together with boys" . The WH crew could see no problem with that. There is no difference, they devoutly believe, between males and females. Females of all ages must be obliged to play mixed sports. Nothing could possibly go wrong.

There was some faint concession to the notion some girls didn't like that, but it was ascribed to their presumed unreasonable problems with body image, which could be corrected by permitting them to wear whatever sports-wear they chose. Permitting them not to be forced to "run around and play" with aggressive males twice their strength was an option too absurd to be considered.

Does the entire BBC staff (and, the Whitehall staff) assemble daily and, hand on heart, repeat the words "We all believe and solemnly swear that there is NO difference between males and females"??

That would help explain it.

No. What they recite is “There is no such sex as male or female”.

Bloody hell, his voice is annoying isn't it.

I'll send a complaint in too. Who do we escalate it to when the BBC team inevitably dismiss the complaint? Is it an OFCOM thing?

Sparklybutold · 18/03/2026 19:45

I was actually speechless at the decision. Of all the women academics they ask a man. He even admitted to not understanding the sahm element, of course he bloody didn’t. Nula doing her usual pandering. I’ve complained countless times to WH but I really don’t think they care?

I feel really sorry for you. Do you have nothing else going on in your life? You feel that need to complain about a guest who did what? Dared the exist while trans

HaveYouActuallyDoneAnyWashingThisWeekMum · 18/03/2026 19:49

How many English-speaking women are there in the world? Presumably millions…yet they chose to talk to a MAN about MISOGYNY. This is misogyny in action.

WH had a segment on misogyny and chose to get a man identifying as a woman to talk about it. I'd actually have been okay if it was man talking about their own concerns as a man, what they've seen and what maybe they are trying to do about it. But no. And what, WH couldn't find any other expert who's an actual woman to discuss it from an academic point of view?

So yes personally I have lots of other stuff going on in my life and I still complained.

Ahh I see. You say you wouldn’t have had a problem if it was a man, and you’d also say that trans woman is a man. Did you have an issue with their credentials as an academic?

I wish WH had women guests. It's not too much to ask is it? Although, apparently it is. And he wasn't booked as a man, he was booked as a woman and lauded as such.

It's the BBC. The pervert-harbouring, gender-adoring, audience-declining relic of yesteryear. They are so tone-deaf that it takes whistleblowing for anyone to momentarily take notice only to then decide the majority of people are wrong.

You're more likely to see trans-related content than "women of a certain age" was headline news last month.

Besides, I have a personal grudge:

I, along with ithe people, was trying to get me publicity for walking solo across America during a pandemic.

Not a single response from the BBC or WH. We wrote, rang, emailed many times = Tumbleweed.

Woke up to a BBC headline "Man makes second attempt to walk across America". Livid I was. Proper livid.

A man, in his 20s, FFS.

Fewer than 100 hundred people succeeded that year, and fat middle-aged me managed it during at my first attempt.

Never forgiven them.

I don’t blame you. Unforgivable. Did you tell them you actually did it?

Well done, anyway.👏👏👏👏

ScrollingLeaves · 18/03/2026 20:57

If I could disguise myself as a man for a few days, I think it would be interesting to see how life felt different because of how I was treated as a man compared to when I was living as a woman.

Maybe this WH man wanted to describe how life felt different in how he was treated as a woman compared to when he was obviously a man, but, if he thinks he experienced no misogyny as a woman, then that must be because everyone really knew, one way or another, that he was a man all along.

The man they did have on talked about his concerns as a man presenting as a woman

Do you understand the (obvious) difference?

Yep.

Lies' question about "concern re. their academic credentials" is actually very apt here.

If you're speaking as an "expert" in something or representative of a particular demographic, the expectation is that you have some proof you are qualified to do so.

The academic proof is your PhD or whatever. Universally accepted and fairly foolproof.

But what's the proof that the speaker's a woman?

Their say-so. An internal state. That's it. That's all there is.

So, yes - women (protesting the theft of their word and identity as a distinct, recognisable group - the 51% of the population sharing a female body) have a right to question those "credentials".

HaveYouActuallyDoneAnyWashingThisWeekMum · 18/03/2026 21:37

No this was not about the ‘existence’ of this man who was trans.

It was about WH choosing to put him on the programme to speak for women. It is certainly something people should complain about rather than not bother.

'Just ludicrous': BBC flooded with complaints after Australian transgender academic appears on Woman's Hour to discuss own misogyny experience

The BBC has been hit with a wave of complaints after transgender woman Raewyn Connell appeared on Woman's Hour to weigh in on misogyny, dividing listeners online.

Many women are thoroughly fed up with men being called women. Men who think they are women have zero experience of what it means to be female, and aren't female. There are plenty of women who could speak on the topic but are ignored in favour of a man. So yes I am bloody mad about it.
Edited to say it's called Women's Hour for a reason. It's not 'Men who think they are women Hour'.

It wasn’t clear why he was there, but what he did speak about was his experience of misogyny after he transitioned. It was at that point that I shouted at the radio.

It was incredible to me that ‘Woman’s Hour’ had invited a man to speak about their experiences of misogyny when the producers had half the population to draw from who’ve lived with misogyny from the moment they were born.

Please note that my ire had nothing to do with this person being trans or even to do with this person at all. I was angry that the WH producers and the presenter for asking someone who spent their formative years as male, to talk about misogynistic experiences that girls and women experience from birth.

‘Ludicrous’ that women are upset that men are feted when speaking about what women experience on a daily basis whilst denying women the opportunity to speak about this themselves. Australia must just be so misogynistic as a society not to see this. I feel for women there.

On the other hand, I feel WH are either openly trolling women or do this deliberately to get the clicks or maybe the happy outcome of doing both.

It definitely is.

Very pleased that I cancelled my TV licence - I don’t watch live TV anyway, but used to be happy to fund the BBC for Radio 4 alone (yes, I know you don’t need a licence to listen to the radio). Woman’s Hour and biased reporting in news programmes prompted me to cancel.
