Open letter: Mothers Appeal To Mumsnet CEO Justine Roberts

Mumsnet is a powerhouse, and your advocacy for the protection of women and children carries real political weight. With every Prime Minister since David Cameron fielding your questions, it’s clear that when you speak, policymakers listen. No mother would turn away from the suffering of a child -and the children of Gaza are still suffering needlessly. Together as mothers, we can help.

While many parents may not feel confident enough to speak out themselves, your leadership now would galvanise them to demand tangible actions to get life saving supplies into Gaza and create safe conditions for women to give birth, giving those mothers and babies a chance at life. We cannot leave them alone in the New Year.

Irrespective of what they are asking, why aren't the asking politicians. Why are they asking Justine Roberts to do it for them. Confused

Cant find anything about this on mumsnet, not sure which forum it would be in. Or is it a pritvate matter. Nothing to do with mumsnet itself? Hmm

Dear Justine, While sharing the magic of Christmas with our children, it was heartbreaking to see images of little boys and girls just like ours in flooded tents and without food or warmth or medical support in Gaza, after everything they’ve already be...

Hmmm Jesus was Jewish.... I think a lot of Christians would have issues with that. So you propose we go back to how things were 3000 years ago. Very intellectual and forward thinking 🤔

Yes, Jesus was called 'the King of the Jews'. Before Jesus there was just the old testament - much of which is shared with Judaism.

"Un-aliving"???
What sort of omnicause newspeak is this?
You'll be telling us next that humans can change sex.

I'll just pop over to Style and Beauty to ask for advice on how to drape my Mumsnet Kefiyah (for those who remember the Mumsnet Scarf Wink)

This letter is all about, dead children, dead women and an on going genocide. The majority of mums on here have all made excuses why they shouldn't sign it. These are the same sort of mums that would have excused Nazis and they are 'raising' the next generation, shame on you. Dead children under any circumstances is wrong, children are innocent, doesn't matter where they come from or what they look like.

This woman, who is not a mum, has just set up a monthly direct debit to UK-Med, a long-established international medical response charity who run two hospitals in Gaza and are still licenced to work there because they have agreed to comply with Israel's security measures that exist to prevent aid, given in good faith, from being diverted to support Hamas's military campaign.

This money will go towards vital medical treatment in Gaza, including the delivery of babies. It will not go to Hamas.

If Hamas had not committed the 7th October 2023 atrocity, Israel would not be imposing these conditions. Hamas are happy to steal resources intended for Gazan civilians to continue waging war on Israel. Hamas are happy to harm Gazan civilians to achieve their political aims. The situation is complex and you can't make that complexity go away by screaming "dead babies".

Now that you know that I have put my wallet where my mouth is, do you fancy retracting your slur about me being willing to "excuse Nazis"? Given that this situation involves Jewish people, who made up a substantial proportion of Holocaust victims, and the state of Israel, which was established to give the Jewish people a homeland to flee to if something like the Holocaust could ever happened again, to reference the Nazis is tone-deaf to say the least.

Looks like a good organisation.

No they didn't; don't be so ignorant. The history of the Middle East is a history of successive empires; successive warlords and successive slaughters of populations.

Judaism pre-dates Islam by over a thousand years.

What you are calling Palestine was known as 'southern syria' to the arab populations. And jewish peoples from that area are as much Palestinians as any muslim arabs are.

Indeed.

The Greek term "armageddon" is derived from a real place in Israel, Har Megiddo, a plain near the remains of the fortified city of Megiddo. It is mentioned in the Torah/Old Testament 12 times as a battle site and John the Revelator predicted that the final conflict between God and Satan would happen there. It was the site of many battles in ancient history.

That which we might call Israel has been fought over for a very long time and occupied as a province of someone else's empire (Roman, Ottoman) for a very long time. There isn't one single group that can truly claim sole ownership and sovereignty over the whole of it now.

If MN has to raise money for one side or other I would rather they raised it for Israel and the UK supports Israel (not Hamas) so that would also be in keeping with the nation's views too and that of many posters on MN.

Even better perhaps MN could keep out of taking sides

Any yes Jewish people have had a significant presence in the middle east for many years Jews, Muslims and Christians lived in peace and harmony in Palestine prior to the state of Israel being created

"Significant presence"? They are literally from the Middle East!

The Ashkenazi Jews of eastern and central Europe who made up most of the Jewish Holocaust victims, the Sephardi Jews of the Iberian Peninsular, and the Beta Israel of east Africa are all diaspora populations who can each trace their collective descent back to Israel.

Shortshriftandlethal · 12/01/2026 19:57

@ self fellating..... You are correct that it has been the site of successive empires and territorial claims throughout its history; that is the the same as with all/most land masses on the planet, including our own - but the fact is that Israel is now a legitimate state, and a democrat one at that. There have been many new nations that have created since the creation of the state of Israel, and I imagine will continue to be created going forward.

Human nature and human society does not really change.

Read my last two posts again. My point is that all the people claiming that Israel is a settler-colonial project of the West, taking land that belonged to someone else, aren't telling the full story. Israel is no more or less legitimate a state than Palestine. It's fair to assert that the Palestinian Arabs have a right to be there, and it's fair to assert that the Israeli Jews have the right to be there too. The hard part is getting them to play nicely together.

The reality is that Israel is now an established state which has a right to control its own borders and make its own rules. 20% of the population is muslim arab. They are also Israelis. If what are referred to as Palestinians want to create their own established state then they are going to have to accept the reality of their neighbour.

You are correct that de jure, there's no such thing as Palestine. De facto, there are two areas of territory that Israel annexed during a war in 1967 and has been unable to exert effective control over ever since.

For Palestine to exist as a de jure sovereign state, they need a competent future government, and Hamas really isn't it.
