Open letter: Mothers Appeal To Mumsnet CEO Justine Roberts

Mumsnet is a powerhouse, and your advocacy for the protection of women and children carries real political weight. With every Prime Minister since David Cameron fielding your questions, it’s clear that when you speak, policymakers listen. No mother would turn away from the suffering of a child -and the children of Gaza are still suffering needlessly. Together as mothers, we can help.

While many parents may not feel confident enough to speak out themselves, your leadership now would galvanise them to demand tangible actions to get life saving supplies into Gaza and create safe conditions for women to give birth, giving those mothers and babies a chance at life. We cannot leave them alone in the New Year.

Irrespective of what they are asking, why aren't the asking politicians. Why are they asking Justine Roberts to do it for them. Confused

Cant find anything about this on mumsnet, not sure which forum it would be in. Or is it a pritvate matter. Nothing to do with mumsnet itself? Hmm

Open letter: Mothers Appeal To Mumsnet CEO Justine Roberts

Dear Justine, While sharing the magic of Christmas with our children, it was heartbreaking to see images of little boys and girls just like ours in flooded tents and without food or warmth or medical support in Gaza, after everything they’ve already be...

It seams a weird thing to do as an open letter. Like they would have been getting mumsnet on board first then writing a letter to the government

selffellatingouroborosofhate · 08/01/2026 02:17

I don't think this letter is actually about Gaza. It's about manufacturing an argument that Justine is "right-wing", which is what the Omnicausers call anyone who is not in lockstep with their beliefs. Remember that Justine has, at personal risk, continued to host gender critical discussion. This is basically about making a case that she's some kind of nazi.

Nice to have a bit of humour this late at night!

But really this makes no sense whatsoever

Is it that they want this included in this year's Mumsnet Manifesto?

Did you read it?

Did you read it?

I did and I agree with the point that it is like a blackmail letter trying to force JR to do something or else be considered right wing and evil.

What she is supposed to do is anyone's guess. This is a 'do the right thing' letter that gave us finale of the emotional support dog in the Allison Bailey case.

MyThreeWords · 08/01/2026 06:21

Lol at the conspiracy theorising. I hate the stupid word 'omnicause', which always seems to be used by people who want to discredit support for the people of Gaza.

It does seem slightly strange to direct this appeal at Mumsnet. But I guess it is part of a much wider approach where they are basically trying to get the message out via as many potential routes as possible. The specific measures described in the letter relate to maternity care needs and so it perhaps seemed natural to focus on any parenting-related entity that just might spark a bit of publicity for the crisis.

MyThreeWords · 08/01/2026 06:31

I love it that, for the first dozen or so signatories at least, the names seem to be in order of General Greatness and National Treasuriness. That must make for quite a lot of ego-fragility and anxious diplomacy.Grin

I also love it that there are a florist and a quilt designer in among all the other worthies.Grin

I genuinely love it that the signatories all seem to be women.

Igneococcus · 08/01/2026 06:39

It sure makes a change from all the mocking of MN as a site for silly little women with too much time on their hands that we usually get. "Hey Justine, can you please go and sort out Gaza? Thanks, love."
It's quite mad.

Yeah, I wonder how Rosie Lou (actress) feels about being bottom of the list.

Oh hang on - the Dames are in alphabetical order. Phew. We won't be seeing Lumley/Dench/Redgrave fisticuffs.

Thankfully Annie Lennox made it just ahead of Paloma Faith

Igmum · 08/01/2026 07:32

I imagine it is that none of the organisers are Mumsnetters (pity because I love the idea of Joanna Lumley and Judy Dench commenting on AIBU). If they were they would have started internally. Agree the way they have done this is ridiculously like blackmail and I don’t think the Great and the Good thought through their signatures.

InternationaTraumaTherapist · 08/01/2026 08:36

If you are a mother or a father you know how u would protect your child.
if you are a care giver you know how you would protect the people you love.
if you have a family you know how much you would defend their honor.
if you are a good human being, then you know this treatment in Gaza is inhumane.
Wherever we are in the world, we all deserve care, kindness, support and compassion.
Something needs to be done to support these people!

There are absolutely fucktons of women and babies across the world in loads of countries that are living and dying in horrendous conditions.

It is on the democratically voted in representatives of other countries to do something about it. Not on MN or indeed the users of MN to take that on. I mean, there is the UN, NATO, WEF etc all get our taxes to run the world order and all they care about is men in dresses/surrogacy/assisted dying/lockdowns/and digital ID. [Money/oil/control].

This has been written from a fair amount of very well off people, to get those piddling prole mumsnetters to 'encourage' JR to pull her finger out and save the world.

Not sure about that, I mean, my family is awesome and I love them but as the sister of a politician (not in the UK) I'd never do anything else if I'd started defending db's honour.

PrizedPickledPopcorn · 08/01/2026 09:37

@InternationaTraumaTherapist how do you mean, protect their honour? I’d move heaven and earth for the wellbeing of my DC, but I don’t think their honour comes into it. That’s in their hands, I think.

IsabellaGoodthing · 08/01/2026 09:44

Im all for anything that supports the children of Gaza. Would an official Mumsnet approach really have influence?

InternationaTraumaTherapist · 08/01/2026 10:54

It’s all about getting the word out there I believe. In whatever way that reduces the ignorance. Not interested in a tug of war or a proving of point! Just hoping for the message of the continuous Genocide and the lacking of support to be made aware!

whatwouldafeministdo · 08/01/2026 11:04

It reeks of the Gentry class and absolute cast iron cheeky fuckery.

If actual Governments, Doctors without Borders and the Red Cross can't do anything about the situation Gaza it seems a bit rich to expect Justine to sort it.

If they want to influence MNetters and indeed the MN manifesto they can come and spend time on AIBU or FWR like the rest of us! Preferably with parking threads and pictures (though there probably aren't any parking issues if you're loaded).

To just swoop in and expect Justine to listen to their letter rather than engaging on the site itself is breathtakingly rude!

Edited to add: There are plenty of threads on here about Gaza, I'd suggest the signatories make an account and start there.

RosaMundi27 · 08/01/2026 11:21

For the record: no charity or NGO has been "banned" from working in Gaza.
What has happened is that the Israeli authorities have imposed conditions on charities who work with Palestinians. One of the condition is to hand over a list of their employees.
It is particularly relevent in Gaza where collusion between Hamas and charities was, and is rife. Some charity employees were members of Hamas and other terrorist organisations.
There is also widespread theft of aid and equipment, sometimes facilitated by employees who are also terrorists.

Puppet Regime: Hamas' Coercive Grip on Aid and NGO Operations in Gaza

Newly obtained internal Hamas documents spotlight the terrorist group’s systematic control of foreign NGOs operating in Gaza.

It's just a way of generating publicity.

A bunch of celebrities are asking Justine to ask the UK government to ask Israel to allow those certain things to happen. Even if Justine had some influence on our government, the UK government's influence on the Israeli government is exactly 0.
