Robin Ince quits working for the BBC over his support for men in dresses and terrorists

Shame really he’s a nice guy, a huge bibliophile, met him a few times at book signings, the last live show of his I saw he did shoehorn in “and of course trans women are real women” or some such nonsense.

guessing the infinite monkey cage is cancelled now, that was in my top five podcasts.

can’t do a popular science show and think women can have a penis though. Wonder what Brian thinks?

the video of his love resignation , presumably at the end of a monkey cage recording, is here
https://www.reddit.com/r/transgenderUK/comments/1plg02g/bbc_presenter_robert_ince_claims_he_has_been/

notably he doesn’t say how men in dresses are being treated badly. Everyone has a blind spot.

Yes. Hopefully he'll be able to rest and get the support he needs.

Interesting “that’s Brian Cox’s wife” cliffhanger. Although I felt he didn’t really do anything with it in the second half.

I did a course once when we had to do 20 minutes of “automatic writing”. (It was as terrible as it sounds). Just spew it all out. This reads like that.

Lalgarh · 18/08/2026 07:32

He complains about a pile on organised by a terrible fashion against his 4 women friends (all anonymous) then directly identifies a person he claims is directly responsible for All The Terrible Things That Happened to him. He does not name her but does note she is the wife of a named person.

BC obviously him doing that is totally different from directing a pile on against her. He is merely passively pointing the way to the pile on

Edited

Is that what he did? Thank you. I thought it was quite confused. He drops the wife in at the end of part one- like an “it was Rebecca Vardy’s account” reveal. (Maybe he thought it was a dramatic flourish.) Anyway I wasn’t sure why, but I’m not going to lie I did start to skim read as it all got a bit disjointed.

Somewhere in between the focaccia and the risotto, he [Ince’s agent] told that the executives around the show believed I was having a mental heath crisis.

Robin, they were not wrong

it sounds like there was a period when anyone he met could be sure of receiving some sort of bizarre apology email later

This is why I think he’s being disingenuous blaming this all on his social media use and incredible trans allyship. Sounds like enough people with a vested interest in him doing well noticed something was up and tried to step in, and there has to be more to it than silly online spats.

Standing up for your beliefs - and burning bridges if you must - is all well and good but this behaviour is comically unprofessional and he can’t see it. He keeps picking fights with people - Gervais, Cox - that are not interested in taking him on and he stands no chance of getting one over, and then he gets more wound up. And if I was Gia Milanovic and Brian Cox I’d be furious with this idiocy and what he’s trying to imply here.

MyThreeWords · 18/08/2026 07:58

Reading the second of those two blog posts, I was surprised to see that there were actual clear signs that he really is significantly mentally unwell (rather than there being just enough evidence of instability to use for a witty/scathing comment about him).

I no longer think he is fair game for online comment. He is too unwell.

EdithStourton · 18/08/2026 07:59

I didn't make it to the end.

Mind you, I began to glaze over when he used 'cis'.

Shedmistress · 18/08/2026 08:33

A man and his disciples...mumsnet...blah blah blah. Good grief.

Now Robin, what you have done here is moved Mumsnet from thinking you are a dyed in the wool TRA to MNers pitying you for your delicate mental health. That has got to sting somewhat.

And still, men keep on being men.

I'm just pleased there seems to be some pushback from the BBC somewhere. And well done Brian Cox's wife for standing up to Robin's ridiculousness.

And he’s not finished! He hasn’t explained himself about himself enough yet! So now he’s taken the time to explain himself some more, in a paranoid, nasty and insufferably sanctimonious two part cry-blog about how he was ‘gaslit’ out of his job by horrible shadowy anti-trans campaigners who didn’t like his social media truth bombs. He doesn’t sound well, really:

He finishes by listing his playlist while writing. Is this normal for a grown up person?

lcakethereforeIam · 18/08/2026 09:56

I've not read his blogs and don't intend to but there's a high profile probable suicide exercising the RSOH at the moment. It's not much of a stretch to say that he's being beatified by the hard of thinking and manipulative grifters. I hope Ince's friends are keeping an eye on him, giving him home truths and not feeding any delusions he might have about himself.

Stopbringingmicehome · 18/08/2026 17:26

Funny how he manages to blame women (the cunty type) for his problems

junipery · Yesterday 07:33

I think he’s suggesting his pro-trans social media was causing problems as far back as 2020, but I find that hard to square given what happened to people like Justin Webb and Jenni Murray and the heavy pro-transness of the BBC at that time.

Lalgarh · Yesterday 11:29

Maybe He might be on a gender journey they/themselves soon

Using Nitter as a mirror site let's you see the comments.

Somewhere in between the focaccia and the risotto,

That's not the mysterious timespan Ince thinks it is. He obviously doesn't eat enough Italian food.

Shedmistress · Yesterday 12:36

If we had joked about this happening we'd have been deleted or told we were being outrageous and yet...

I suppose next week he will be attempting to give women advice on how to...no no no must stop do not go there...

This is utterly fucking hilarious. He IS a comedian after all.

RoyalCorgi · Yesterday 12:42

I've just read the second post. It has that fine mix of self-aggrandisement and self-pity that we've come to associate with the pen of Jolyon Maugham. How many of these deluded, narcissistic men are there?

Curious that he thinks he's been cancelled by the anti-trans brigade, when as we know with some certainty, so far all the cancellations have gone in the other direction. I don't suppose he was speaking up for Maya, Kathleen, Jess and the rest when they were under attack, was he?

Mollyollydolly · Yesterday 21:34

It reminded me of Maugham, honestly these privileged white men'. Ghastly people.

Lalgarh · Yesterday 23:25

Well he's found a tribe. But he must be aware that at some point he'll say something, or not put up a hashtag quickly enough, or re Bluesky post someone who is linked to someone unspeakable, and they'll turn against him.

NotNowFGS · Yesterday 23:51

As is oft said on Mumsnet: first post nails it!😂

You've got to wonder who's scraping who's barrel here.
