Caller: I'm a teacher, I've seen children mistaken about gender identity all the time. How do you ACTUALLY know they want to be what they say they want to be? They change their minds all the time.

HW: Sounds sceptical.... Look at the research of people who change their mind, by far the majority of children carry on

Tom: It comes to the issue of consent. How do we know the child is aware of what they're consenting to?

HW: It's no different from treatment for a broken arm, heart surgery - children give consent for these

Tom: Lists infertility, irreversible outcomes, can children understand this?

HW: PB effects are all completely reversible. Look at the science. The good thing is you can revisit every 3 months.

Tom: Study on your website by Dutch Defries (?) not a randomised trial, no control group. Blockers can't be credited for any improvements.

James O-Brien doesn’t know what social contagion is. He’s an ignorant patronising moron in this issue. Whereas it sounds like this man Tom has done his homework and knows what he’s talking about.

This shouldn’t be anything to do with politics, it’s not a left or right issue, it’s a huge child abuse and medical scandal.

He is excellent at asking all the right questions and is always very well prepared, whatever the topic. He is probably the only LBC presenter I have time for, tbh. Shelagh Fogarty is quite good on some topics, but she does have some blind spots.

HW: Just because they have autism they shouldn't be excluded from treatment. Waffles a bit about autism.

Caller: Is it not society's inability to recognise autism?

HW: Waffles a bit about T children not able to get blockers at the mo. Says T is a very different thing to autism.

Tom: Brings up a case of Gender GP and an autistic child. Child J. Too much testosterone. What medical examinations did you undertake?

HW: I'd want them to have PBs, operations etc yes.

He isn't a patronising moron. I find him hugely compassionate on many issues.

Perhaps he needs to catch-up... Though I suspect he avoids it.

But, TS is very right wing and I heard him giving this attention as dog whistle journalism. He is far less inclined to understanding, in any sincere way, over someone like JOB.

Again. I would rather my safety in the hands of JOB over someone like TS.

It IS a political issue. Deny it all you wish. The likes of Trump and Farage wouldn't weaponise it otherwise.

So what was wrong in TS's handling of it today? Did he not use the right tone with HW?

I get where you’re coming from, I agree with JOB on many many things but not when he ventures down gender conversations. Same as Natasha Devon on LBC. I am at odds with TS on many issues and he is more than annoying on pensions. But I am with him on the stance and questions he asks on gender.

It is painful to be a pretty left wing, life long (except last time) Labour voter to find myself with Tory politicians in Scotland and England, on this issue. Never thought I’d see the day I would be agreeing with Kemi on this when I don’t on most of her other policies. It should not be a left vs right issue. It is what left me politically homeless and spoiling my balllot last time.
