Banned from Reddit for saying trans women are not biological women

I’ve managed to get myself banned for inciting hatred from Reddit for 3 days for saying that I don’t have a problem with trans women as long as they don’t claim to be biological women and demand rights to female sex protected spaces. Googled what social media channels allow any discussion on trans issues so here I am. Hi!

Welcome, OP. I think 'Banned by Reddit' has become something of a badge of honour!

The irony is that some transwomen say openly that they are not biological women, but they are women, because it's about more than biology....or something.
So a transwoman might have posted the same thing and Reddit might have banned them for being transphobic🙄

There's lots of thoughtful and well-researched input here from knowledgeable posters. There's also a lot of wit, sometimes downright silliness [check out The Bluestocking Women's Pub for instance!,] and sometimes really inspired, erudite and clever silliness.😁 And there's always support for anybody going through a hard time - MN even introduced a 'support' button recently, so there's a lot of it around Smile

So I hope you stick around and enjoy being here.

We need badges.

Threaded comments (Reddit) versus flat (Mumsnet).

Nothing to do with the reactions being public or not.

Ah, ok, thanks.

@Wbeezer - you got banned for being sex realist?

Yes, for stating that I didn’t believe that trans women are actually women.
Did me a favour, Reddit wasn’t good for my peace of mind.

Can you do me one that says 'Came for the feminism; stayed for the Tunnocks'?

Copperoliverbear · 02/12/2025 23:13

You can’t have freedom of speech in the country anymore.

There's a discussion going on on Reddit about what it's like being a transwoman in the UK but outside of London. The majority of posters say that they have experienced no, or almost no negative incidents - over a period of years. At worst, maybe the odd "microaggression" of a double take by someone. A lot of them say they feel that the huge majority of people don't care whether they're trans or not, and that they've had support from their local community. This seems very different from the experience that a lot of women have - experiencing sexual harassment pretty frequently, and often feeling physically unsafe. I didn't get the sense that transwomen are in fact some of the most vulnerable people in the UK.

Waitingfordoggo · 02/12/2025 13:13

Welcome. You can have proper discussions about the issues here. MN will delete posts which are blatantly transphobic, but here you are allowed to say that men aren’t women, that no woman has a penis, that people cannot change sex, that AGP exists and that telling children they were born in the wrong body is abusive.

There are some incredibly wise women here; enjoy the conversations 🙂

And MN has provided a sane platform from which we have been able to shift the dial in so many other places too

Also, what the fuck are we supposed to do? There's a man dressed as a woman in the Ladies, are we supposed to call him out or something? Obviously, we just wash our hands and get out of there as quickly as we can.

That’s good to hear it’s a benefit! It’s so important to stand up for the truth & be objective.

Mumsnet have been so good at tolerating difference and allowing women here to hold those in powerful positions to account.

Wbeezer · 03/12/2025 09:50

Yes, I’ve been on Mumsnet for donkeys years, I dipped into Reddit to broaden my knowledge base but got lectured at (mostly by youngsters!) rather than having a proper exchange of views.

WaverleyOwl · 03/12/2025 10:29

I'm regularly banned on Reddit for 3 days for stating reality.

I was also auto banned from the whole site until I pointed out that my gender critical belief is perfectly legal and I was saying nothing hateful.

SlipperyLizard · 02/12/2025 12:57

Welcome!

Reddit (while useful for some things) is generally a cesspit of TRAs.

This. I am a lesbian who is banned from all but one lesbian subreddits because I have said things such as I wouldn't sleep with a transwoman, or would feel unsafe if I inadvertently went on a date with one. They're biological men. But reddit doesn't think so.

Wbeezer · 03/12/2025 21:59

The Gender Critical sub Reddit was really good but of course it got banned.

Is it on trans UK?

helluvatime · 06/12/2025 09:05

I got banned from a blog that I had been following for years by a so-called feminist writer for saying that I thought it wasn’t fair on sportswomen to have to compete with males as they had different bodies/abilities. Not only did the blog owner ban me, "for life", but she made a big deal of holding me up to others as an example of bigoted behaviour that would not be tolerated. Actually it was quite useful as it really opened my eyes to the madness.

ParentOfOne · 06/12/2025 11:48

I wonder if that blogger would have banned Serena Williams for saying she would lose to male tennis players. No, wait, I know, it must be because Serena Williams is a lousy tennis player...

Welcome @Oryx54321

I had been pondering whether to ask on reddit a question I have which I don't want to ask on here because it's a question for people who believe TWAW and this didn't seem like the right forum, so I guess from your experience it wouldn't work there. Did your googling suggest any social media channels other than mumsnet where people of differing views are allowed to talk about things rationally?

I got banned from the r/transgenderUK subredddit for posting a link to Ben Cooper's excellent discussion of the Supreme Court judgment titled "Why the Supreme Court’s judgment does not remove, diminish or breach the rights and protections of trans people"

Gettingbysomehow · 06/12/2025 12:13

Some of my own friends insist they are biological women. How can anyone be that dumb. If it has or had a penis its a man. End of, however much it wants to be a woman.
