Banned from Reddit for saying trans women are not biological women

Oryx54321 · 02/12/2025 12:39

I’ve managed to get myself banned for inciting hatred from Reddit for 3 days for saying that I don’t have a problem with trans women as long as they don’t claim to be biological women and demand rights to female sex protected spaces. Googled what social media channels allow any discussion on trans issues so here I am. Hi!

Welcome to the nest of vipers.

Cordeliasdemonbabies · 02/12/2025 15:29

The UKPolitics subreddit is pretty good at allowing GC viewpoints without wielding the banhammer. Silly TRA arguments also tend to get down voted there.

Gettingbysomehow · 02/12/2025 15:31

Well done, I don't even go on reddit I can't stand all that garbage.
I'm not sure how they can ignore a biological fact but it's all part of the trans mantra and madness. Hopefully it will all blow over in a couple of decades and everyone will be wondering WTF happened to our sanity.

MarieDeGournay · 02/12/2025 15:39

Welcome, OP. I think 'Banned by Reddit' has become something of a badge of honour!

The irony is that some transwomen say openly that they are not biological women, but they are women, because it's about more than biology....or something.
So a transwoman might have posted the same thing and Reddit might have banned them for being transphobic🙄

There's lots of thoughtful and well-researched input here from knowledgeable posters. There's also a lot of wit, sometimes downright silliness [check out The Bluestocking Women's Pub for instance!,] and sometimes really inspired, erudite and clever silliness.😁 And there's always support for anybody going through a hard time - MN even introduced a 'support' button recently, so there's a lot of it around Smile

So I hope you stick around and enjoy being here.

SassyPearlEagle · 02/12/2025 15:43

Welcome to the club!

I got banned there years ago for calling "Karen White" a man. Reddit is beyond help.

@Oryx54321 Just to give you a bit of background: there are two feminist boards because a few years ago it was felt that the focus on "trans" issues was taking over the existing one feminist board so it was split into Sex and Gender and Feminist Chat. I think I'm right in saying that this board is busier than the other.

You are right, but there are some threads which get posted here even though they belong on the other FWR board. I don't think MN HQ has much interest in sorting this out.

Carla786 · 02/12/2025 18:42

They are so misogynistic. They have so many woman-hating porn forums on there, fantasising about converting lesbians via corrective rape, abusing women in all kinds of ways.

They keep it up because they don't care about women. Men's sexual needs are their top priority, no matter how depraved.

yes and this was originally called FWR

Some of us still call it this.

welcome OP!

I prefer mn layout anyway. Reddit is hard to follow

SwordToFlamethrower · 02/12/2025 18:58

I was banned years ago. First was a support group for people with cPTSD. I challenged a man who said he was traumatised by being kicked out of a women's toilet. Told him he doesn't belong in the women's and he isn't a victim, he is a predator.
The other group was a feminist group. Reddit is for incels.

I don't think they need to

WarriorN · 02/12/2025 19:00

I’ve made RL feminist friends via FWR. I think next year it’ll be a decade since I landed here (under other names) thanks to the spartacus threads.

SunshineHello · 02/12/2025 19:01

I’m amazed it’s taken you so long, I was banned about three years ago.

I’m actually surprised there’s any women with GC views remaining on that site, I had a look post-Olympic ban announcement a few weeks ago to see if there were any dissenters remaining and they seemed few and far between.

It is the ultimate echo chamber on the topic - see some profiles of the moderators there who all seem to be trans or non-binary furries and it all makes sense.

MowingMachine · 02/12/2025 19:07

It is an echo chamber - but I think there are cracks in the walls. I can't remember which sub I saw it on - it was a discussion about the Upton case a couple of months ago.

There were two or three comments talking about biological sex. They were very much the tiny minority, and got down-voted to oblivion with the usual abuse about being bigoted fascists.

But one response to this stuck in my mind. It pointed out that the posters in the sub were an echo chamber, because they were used to the deletion and banning of almost every GC comment. And because they weren't used to seeing any dissent, they were falling into the trap of believing that their view is representative of real life.

They could down vote away, but it wouldn't change reality. If they were to ask people to answer honestly, without fear of abuse or retaliation, they'd likely be shocked at the real responses they'd get - because most people do not believe that people can change their sex.

It's a tiny step - but I don't think that comment thread would have been allowed to run a couple of years ago.

ParentOfOne · 02/12/2025 19:46

@Oryx54321 were you blocked by an automod of the sub or of Reddit?
Which sub was it?

Each sub has different rules and automod bots. So you could get banned for saying something in one sub, but another sub would not ban you for saying the same.

I'm not sure if there are also Reddit-wide automod bots that would ban you in any sub

MowingMachine · 02/12/2025 19:54

Oryx54321 · 02/12/2025 12:56

a post in a political forum asking whether its members would tolerate transwomen. Unfortunately it seems reality isn’t tolerated by Reddit’s automod.

When you say "political forum"... I assume you were discussing Your Party?

ParentOfOne · 02/12/2025 20:00

@LemonLeaves got down-voted to oblivion with the usual abuse about being bigoted fascists.
Reddit's downvoting system can be quite toxic. It certainly favours an echo chamber.

You say X in a sub where everyone supports Y, and, even if you don't get banned, your comment will get downvoted and therefore hidden

This system of voting encourages group think and radicalisation

You can see it on the big topics (politics, religion, etc) but also on mundane stuff like one brand of car vs another, or one brand of phone vs another. Crazy

I get banned from there at least a couple of times a year for feminist speech.

ParentOfOne · 02/12/2025 20:04

Reddit would ban the UK Supreme Court, if it could...

LemonLeaves · 02/12/2025 20:16

Yes. I can see how originally it was designed to try and encourage engagement.

But when you consider the dopamine hit of people up-voting - and the negative emotions when someone down-votes - it was inevitable that people would shy away from disagreeing with the majority view. And unsurprising that increasingly aggressive and abusive posts and moderation become accepted as the norm, as those behaving this way have been emboldened because nobody dares deviate from the accepted group-think.

I will always remember when the GC sub got taken down.

ParentOfOne · 02/12/2025 20:41

But the https://www.reddit.com/r/GenderCynical/ GenderCynical sub, which mocks GenderCritical, is still up!!!

I think that's why mumsnet made the reactions private.

ParentOfOne · 02/12/2025 22:12

@murasaki It's different, though. I don't know what the technical term is, but mumsnet is one of those old style forums where posts appear one after the other.

With Reddit, instead, posts are hierarchical.
You make a post. I reply (level 1). If someone replies to me, their post appears under min (level 2). If someone replied to the original post, it's a different level 1 reply.

These various levels end up nested one into the other. Those with more votes are pushed up, those with fewer votes are hidden and collapsed.

Supporters say that reddit subs get too much traffic and a mumsnet-like model wouldn't work.
Detractors point out the toxicity and the groupthink

Threaded comments (Reddit) versus flat (Mumsnet).

Nothing to do with the reactions being public or not.
