Banned from Reddit for saying trans women are not biological women

Oryx54321 · 02/12/2025 12:39

I’ve managed to get myself banned for inciting hatred from Reddit for 3 days for saying that I don’t have a problem with trans women as long as they don’t claim to be biological women and demand rights to female sex protected spaces. Googled what social media channels allow any discussion on trans issues so here I am. Hi!

Welcome to the forum.

Hello! They really are happy with the ban hammer over there for simply speaking facts. As long as there are no personal attacks made, here we can, thanks to HQ, have conversations as you'll see from the many threads on this board.

Hi @Oryx54321 , welcome to MN

Greyskybluesky · 02/12/2025 12:45

@Oryx54321 Out of interest, what led you to say what you said about transwomen? What was the context?

moderate · 02/12/2025 12:46

Welcome to Mumsnet: the island from which TERF Island was built.

a post in a political forum asking whether its members would tolerate transwomen. Unfortunately it seems reality isn’t tolerated by Reddit’s automod.

Welcome!

Reddit (while useful for some things) is generally a cesspit of TRAs.

bonfireoftheverities · 02/12/2025 13:00

Only three days? That's a slap on the wrist. I'm surprised they didn't nuke you from space.

BedlingtonLint · 02/12/2025 13:02

I was banned ages ago because a poster said banning transwomen from women's sports helped no one. All I said in reply was that it helps the women and girls who are competing because they'll have fair sport, and I was banned for hate speech!

Yeah, it's the very essence of an echo chamber.

Which, amusingly, is what this board gets called by some people, who come here to freely express their opinions and don't get deleted! (unless they are personally insulting)

Welcome. You can have proper discussions about the issues here. MN will delete posts which are blatantly transphobic, but here you are allowed to say that men aren’t women, that no woman has a penis, that people cannot change sex, that AGP exists and that telling children they were born in the wrong body is abusive.

There are some incredibly wise women here; enjoy the conversations 🙂

EasternStandard · 02/12/2025 13:23

Welcome. Mn are good on this and allow discussion even when threatened by some.

@Wbeezer - you got banned for being sex realist?

LemonLeaves · 02/12/2025 13:35

I have noticed it's increasingly dependent on the sub. There was something on AskUK recently - can't remember what, poss sports related? - and the majority of the comments were GC.

LittleJustice · 02/12/2025 13:39

Interestingly this is what first got me involved in the whole fight back against trans ideology back seven years ago or so.

I think there was an article in the Guardian and I tried to comment really mildly on it and my comment got deleted and I thought wow so if I'm saying something like that and they're deleting comments (which I didn't realize they would do) then perhaps there are other people out there who also feel the same way and so really they're skewing public opinion because they're making it look as though every single person is supportive whereas in fact any dissenting voices are being deleted.

It felt a bit authoritarian and like some terrible science fiction novel where freedom of speech is denied a bit 1984.

So that got me really interested actually because up until that point I didn't realize anything sinister was happening.

FarriersGirl · 02/12/2025 13:51

Welcome OP! I found this corner of MN a little over a year ago. I have always been a sex realist but this board has been a source of so much knowledge, informed discussion and laughter! Some of it is very funny. It is well worth having a dig through some of the older threads if you have time.

Catiette · 02/12/2025 13:53

Hi, OP. I'm similar, Little Justice. Discovered the extent of what was going on here, but it's captured institutions like the BBC and NHS that have, paradoxically, hardened my stance, by highlighting the total indifference to women's rights, safety and feelings that come with this ideology. Their unquestioning, repressive support of it (calling rapists "she" despite the harm to our collective understanding of the risks we face, quietly removing single-sex wards despite the proven risks inherent in that) has left me distrustful and disillusioned, with a reluctant, abiding wariness that simply wasn't there before. Nice going, guys.

Lovelyview · 02/12/2025 13:54

Welcome op. Blocked and Reported Reddit sub is happily gender critical if you want to go back there. I found Mumsnet a couple of years ago when I wanted to find out why rapist Isla (Adam) Bryson was being held on remand in a women's prison and the Guardian wasn't being very informative. Twitter/X allows everything and it's where you can watch JK Rowling post her amazing tweets. Her thread when Scotland tried to implement the Hate Crime Bill was a thing of glory. A lot of stories that I see there first hit the Times, Telegraph and Daily Mail soon afterwards. My first post on Bluesky was 'Transwomen are men' for which I was told that no-one would be able to see my posts in future so I left again.

PinkFootstool · 02/12/2025 13:54

Reddit is completely captured - they used to employ Aimee Challenor (a TRA) and don't seem to have updated their attitudes or policies on sex vs gender since then.

I was permabanned by a Mod on the UK Police page for being a big fat TERF when I stated that female police officers should not be conducting intimate searches on men, including trans identifying men.

Catiette · 02/12/2025 13:55

This is the thread that first opened my eyes to what was happening, OP. It's an excellent - if somewhat overwhelming and distressing - overview, covering a huge amount of ground with loads of links and ideas to explore further etc.

Break it down for me? | Mumsnet

Hi all, I am fairly new to the discussion on the impact that transwomen are having on women generally and I want to more fully understand the issues (...

@Oryx54321 Just to give you a bit of background: there are two feminist boards because a few years ago it was felt that the focus on "trans" issues was taking over the existing one feminist board so it was split into Sex and Gender and Feminist Chat. I think I'm right in saying that this board is busier than the other.

Also funnier. And more erudite.

Greyskybluesky · 02/12/2025 14:02

Some of the "ishoos" do sneak in onto that board though! Interesting!

Instructions · 02/12/2025 14:40

Appeal it. I got a similar ban for saying that Dr Upton did not pass as female and when I appealed it was overturned within hours.
